5.0 out of 5 stars Even Yoga outsiders will enjoy this book., November 8, 2014
This is the story of one man's journey. His physical journey within yoga, but of equal importance, his emotional and psychological journey as well. Historical and cultural information about the insular world of Bikram yoga was surprisingly captivating. Very well written, thoughtful, and honest. Anyone challenging themselves to continually improve body, mind, and spirit will find this book worth a read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Old time television archive from 1958., March 31, 2014
I'm a big Gene Kelly fan, but this was an old time tv show meant to inform the public that dance can be athletic and "manly." While I was impressed by the stature of the sports stars recruited for this effort, there wasn't enough dance for my taste. However, if you are interested in historic TV, this might be just what you are looking for. I'm glad the performances were preserved, and I did enjoy seeing him in a context outside of movie dialogue. He made one minor "flub" of his lines and took it in stride, always refreshing to see the human side of such huge stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun to read, and educational too!, July 4, 2013

Enjoyed this book so much, even though it is about really serious stuff, which is a testament to the author's writting skill and honesty. Great for anyone who has been affected by brain injury, seizures, or just wants to understand more. Highly recomended for anyone with a sense of humor. Inspiring for getting through the struggles in life the best we can while keeping our sanity (barely), ability to laugh at ourselves and keep moving forward despite it all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very unusual true crime....OMG, April 12, 2013
This review is from: Tabloid (DVD)
A well done and artful documentary about a most unusual true crime story. Ms. McKinny is now apparently suing the film maker for slandering her reputation. If you liked the fascinating mini-series "The staircase" from sundance, you should enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars coolest explosions ever! Addictive to watch, March 13, 2010
This review is from: Destroyed in Seconds (DVD)
If you like to watch things blow up, or smash into other things, this is the DVD set for you. These 2 DVD's contain 10 episodes of non-stop action. Lots of fun to watch. No re-creations or dramatizations here, just the real footage of real events unfolding. A spectacular collection with minimal comentary.

4.0 out of 5 stars should be shown in classrooms, August 4, 2007
This review is from: With All Deliberate Speed (DVD)
This is the only documentary I have ever seen on the historic Brown vs. education decision. As an educator, I think it should be shown in contemporary high school classrooms to help our students understand that it wasn't that long ago that racial prejudice was institutuionalized in this country, and what a struggle it was to even start to bring about change. This video is a little on the long side, but can be watched over several class periods. An excellent discussion started and educational tool for the high school classroom. Teachers of history, psychology, street law, and civics classes should seriously consider making this a part of their curiculum.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with what I hoped to be an excellent read., August 9, 2006
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When I saw that Teri Tom had written an entire book on one punch I had to get it. I was looking forward to what was sure to be a thoroughly researched, thoughtful book. I was quickly and frequently disappointed. Frustrated was more like it. Many of Tom's explanations were wrong. Those errors involved physics and anatomy. I also had the impression that she was trying to prove a point about Bruce Lee. I think the book would have come across as more professional and objective if Tom had stuck to the technique and avoided the politics.

Teri did do a good job explaining how to perform the punch. Her physics and anatomical errors have no effect on her explanations on how to correctly perform the straight lead. The errors were about why the punch is effective. If that won't frustrate you, go ahead and get the book, it does illustrate the punch well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cornwell getting sloppy, January 31, 2003
I generally like patricia cornwell's writting, but this story was just plain bad. In this book, she proves she can get gross, a way to avoid a skillful or clever story. I'll really hesitate before reading anything new she comes out with.
