Shadow Waltz (The Marjorie McClelland Mysteries Book 3)
Shadow Waltz (The Marjorie McClelland Mysteries Book 3)
Price: $3.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A Throwback to the Golden Age, May 14, 2015
If you enjoy stories of pure yet plucky young women and dashing young men who get involved in murderous mysteries for the sheer fun of it, you will be delighted to have found this very entertaining series. Marjorie and Creighton, with a surprising collection of friends and neighbors, are trying to plan their wedding when a damsel in distress comes to Marjorie for help.

Marjorie can't turn down a damsel in distress, and Creighton joins in the escapades... accompanied by Marjorie's former fiance, a stolid policeman. The sleuths repeatedly figure out the solution to the mystery, and then discover that all is not as it seems. The story is tidied up admirably at the end in a surprising denouement.

Along the way, Marjorie and Creighton watch and listen in amazement as the community bands together to organize their wedding with plenty of eccentric touches. Both of the main characters are smart, strong, witty, and kind, but there's plenty of malice to offset their charm.

Take this one to the beach or on vacation. It's a light yet satisfying mystery with a good puzzle.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Luxurious Cream for an Often Ignored Feature, May 11, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This unscented moisturizer is more like a butter than a cream, and it has made my neck soft and supple, if not noticeably firmer. A little of this product goes a long way, though, and the pot of cream still looks quite full. I'm very happy with it as a moisturizer, and will watch for long-term effects.

Niacin is a popular anti-aging cosmetic ingredient. Some people find that it causes a flush or a feeling of warmth, but I have had no trouble with it.

It's easy to ignore the neck, even if you are diligent at caring for the skin of your face. This product can help you catch up.

This is a lightweight, disposable pen. But there are times when that's exactly what you need, whether for passing out in a class or meeting or because you're prone to lose your pens. This particular set of pens has eight different colors of ink, making it perfect for color-coding projects or sharing with kids.

Now here's what's great about these pens:
* They're pretty and fun.
* They have a sturdy clip so you can attach them to your notebook or shirt pocket.
* They have a comfortable rubber grip.
* They write consistently and very smoothly.

In sum, this is a great choice in the right situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Combination of Natural Oils, May 7, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Peppermint oil is a traditional remedy for headaches and proven aromatherapy for focus and alertness. Rosehip oil has been in the headlines lately as Kate Middleton and other celebrities rave about its effects on their skin. This duo pairs the two. You can use either one separately, but the rosehip oil, which has no particular scent, makes a great carrier oil for the peppermint.

I combined the two and combed it through my hair for a conditioner before shampooing, and ended up with a cloud of soft hair and just enough fresh peppermint scent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple Steps to Improve Your Life, May 5, 2015
Tom Rath writes with a simple, friendly clarity, bringing together plenty of data from recent research and his own experiences to produce actionable insights for readers.

In this case, we learn the three keys to feeling fully charged and approaching our day at maximum productivity. The previous title Eat, Move, Sleep is referenced here, but in addition to physical wellbeing, there are some other surprising factors that provide the key to a good life.

It's a pleasant, easy read, but it'll keep you thinking long after you've finished.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, Well Made Hamper, May 3, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is a super-sturdy canvas bag, tough enough to stand up on its own as a hamper or basket, but soft enough to be carried as a beach bag. It's all cotton, with the handles securely attached to the body, and the trendy aqua chevron design makes it work for a dorm room, nursery, kids room, bathroom, or crafts room.

I'm using it as a laundry hamper, and it's completely convenient to carry to the laundry room, as well as an attractive hamper with a small footprint. But I think it would also make a great toy bin or a spot to collect hair care tools or pet gear.

4.0 out of 5 stars A System for Making Changes in Our Lives, May 3, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Goldsmith takes the familiar cue>routine>reward of the habit loop and rethinks it to include impulse>awareness>choice instead of the unthinking response to a trigger. He does this for two reasons:
1. People are different from rats. Even though often respond unthinkingly to triggers, he figures we can, with effort, undo those responses and bring them under conscious control.
2. We often have other people involved in and affected by our habit loops.

The first section of the book examines all the reasons that we so often don't make the behavioral changes which we want to make, responding thoughtlessly instead to the triggers in our environments.

The second section looks at strategies that can help us make those changes. Some of the strategies include changing our environment, tracking and testing our attempts at change, and becoming our own coach.

The third section looks more deeply at the value of introducing structure into our lives: good habits and built-in triggers for the behavior we want to build.

The whole book is friendly and readable. Examples are taken from both personal and professional settings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy Book for Website Owners or Builders, April 30, 2015
A business owner is often at a disadvantage when having a website built and when keeping up with online marketing. After all, when you look at a newspaper ad, what you see is what you get. Your website is a different kettle of fish. If it looks attractive, you may not know what else you should be looking for.

This book solves that problem. It's a series of three dozen checklists, from your domain name to your web analytics, and it gives you all the things to look for you would ever want. It also explains why those things matter and what they are, exactly, so you can check them yourself or ask your web firm intelligent questions and have enough info to make decisions for yourself.

Each chapter explains the point of the checklist and why it matters. "Content Appearance," for example, points out that easy-to-read content is important for serving your visitors well (and getting them to buy from you). There are nine checklist items, including having readable text size and a good contrast between the text and the background. It explains about heading sizes and how to use bulleted lists, advises the reader on how links should look, and calls for a call to action -- a link to a product for example.

This means that you can sit down with this book and go through your website checklist by checklist, or as the pages are built, making certain that each page has a call to action.

I think this could also be useful for QA for website builders. No, you probably don't need this book to tell you that "You did something wrong" in red letters isn't a good error message, but -- ahem -- do you always remember to add alt text to your images? There are several hundred items here, and chances are good that they include not only things you ought to do more consistently, but also at least a few things you hadn't thought of before.

Certainly, this book should be on your shelf if you are trying to build a website for your business or organization. The points made here often don't show up in books with instructions on how to build a website, and they are never part of DIY platforms.

This book doesn't tell you how to do everything you might want to do for your website. For example, it says you should set up a remarketing campaign; it doesn't say how. This is a good thing. First, the checklists won't be outdated anywhere near as quickly as instructions would be. Second, paragraphs of info in between the checklist items would make it useless as a checklist.

This is a handy reference book for anyone who works with websites and web marketing. It's written in an accessible, non-technical voice, and it's easy to find your way around it when you need to look at a specific section.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Piece, Hard to Assemble, April 26, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Have you had much experience putting together the type of furniture that is held together with pins and cams? If not, don't start with this piece. The instructions don't specify which side is finished and which is raw in most of the pictures, I am still convinced that some of the pictures have errors in them ( though I could be wrong), and there are very few words even when words would have been very helpful. It took me and my husband a couple of hours, counting undoing things and redoing them the other way, and at the very end we realized that we had made a mistake. Fortunately, the construction design is solid enough that we will not be going back to step 5 and building all the way back up.

Maybe you have more skills than we do. If so, you'll end up with a nice large top surface for your TV, two good-sized cubbies for other hardware or DVDS, and two good-sized bins to stash your steering wheel game controller or stuffed animals involved in Family Movie Night, or whatnot.

They're not really drawers, because the top of the piece is just set on top of the bins with no slides to run on, so you're actually pulling a couple of bins on wheels attached to a drawer front and fitting into a box. The wheels are not that useful on carpet, so pulling them out and pushing them in again and getting them properly lined up with the furniture is a little bit of a challenge. In short, you probably won't want to use the bins for things you access multiple times in a day, because it would become irritating.

We also had to file the drawer pulls smooth; there were rough edges that would not be safe for a family room.

Still, these are small flaws if you basically need something to set your hardware on. and to store DVDs in. It's attractive and functional.

5.0 out of 5 stars A helpful partner for reaching goals, April 21, 2015
I wouldn't have given this planner five stars at first glance, because I'm used to focusing more on the beauty of the planner than the structure. After all, most planners give you a calendar and a to-do list, with perhaps some goals or long-term planning forms.

This one really is different.

It begins with "Areas of focus" reflection tools that offer a clear structure for thinking about the direction you want to take in the new year in multiple areas of life, from physical health to "innovation" and from career and finance to relationships and family. Each area of focus includes a number of aspects to think about, with specific practical questions to guide your thinking. Once you've reflected, you're encouraged to move through steps to get from your reflections to actions.

Next, you're led through a prioritization process and then through a process of setting up goals and getting them out of your "resolutions" list and onto your calendar. There are tips and examples, and if you go through the whole process, you'll feel as though you've completed a workshop with a master of goal planning.

With your goals identified and written out, you start each month with a grid for the goals you want to reach that month and a page in which to lay out the outcome, how it will lead you toward your annual goals, and the specific steps you need to take. There's a clear monthly calendar over two pages, and then each week has two pages with equally sensible questions as well as daily scheduling from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. There's a lot going on, but the layout keeps it from seeming cluttered.

A few minutes of planning at the beginning of the week, and you're set to keep on track toward the goals you set up for yourself at the beginning of the year. Each month is set up in the same way, and there are some journaling pages at the end.

Instead of having annual goals that you come up with at a New Year's Eve party or company retreat and put away till the end of the year, spending the intervening months and weeks dealing with things that don't move you any closer to your goals, you can -- with this planner's help -- stay focused on the highest priority items naturally.

As I've used this planner, I've found that it is a helpful partner for reaching goals.
