5.0 out of 5 stars Panasonic plasma is the way to go, March 9, 2012
Received this p55st50 tv on 3/6 from Amazon. Must be amongst the first few owners, ordered without looking at one in store as not available to date. Amazed by the picture quality, black levels and popped up colors.
I have owned a 42" panasonic plasma for last 7 years and has always found it superior in natural color reproduction and movie picture quality when compared to LCDs.
It was a time to upgrade. I did look at some LCDs but never found them any close to plasma in natural color tones and movie picture quality. I think Panasonic offers the best quality plasma amongst very few plasma manufacturers left in market. So picked p55st50 which is at competitive price, superior than last years best rated vt30 and offers most features from higher line ups for 2012.
Here are few major features stood out to me. Will add/edit later..
- Amazing picture and color quality. Noticeable improved motion smoothness, vibrant colors
- profile is prettey slim. Around 1.5" thik. Thickness is uniform from top to bottom exept the edges on all four sides are thinner. The bezel is better(thinner) than last years st30 model. There is a clear plastic extention around the bezel which is not enhancing the the look and I guess is added to provide protection against any damage to the edges. There are no buttons on front of the pannel only the remote sensor the power light and I guess a ambient light sensor. The power, volume, channel and menu buttons are on the right side back of the pannel which easy to access when needed. The black bezel is almost non-reflective and offers no viewing distraction as I have noticed in some other brands. The new antireflective screen appers to be working well. The screen itself displays very less reflection even while watching in birght room with big multiple windows
- 3 hdmi(1 with arc), 2 usb inputs on left back side which I guess are more than sufficient as most wouldn't hook up more than 3 hdmi sources and those who do and invest in this expensive tv would also have a reciever with multiple hdmi inputs.
- Out of the box the colors were displaying some tint/non-natural tones but after changing/adjusting settings they are looking great. I might have noticed this as I am used to watch a 7 year old plasma. Now actually I started liking the popped up colors and they are definitely look attractive when compared to LCD displays. Black levels and details in dark are amazing. Haven't seen as deep black levels in any other tv yet. I preferred cenema mode for bluerays and custom for HD cable. SD videos showed some pixalation but that is expected on a 55 inch large display. Some lower resolution DVD and SD videos are not as sharp as on my old 42" 480p panny again the magnification factor of 55" display is to blame. But most dvd video with good resolution were displaying perfectly without any pixalation. I was blowen away by the picture sharpness for blueray and hd cable channels.
- Did not notice any of the issues like fluctuating brightness, fbr discussed for 2011 panny tvs in various forums
- Very easy and simple set up
- Installation was quick (except - two people needed to lift and slide the panel into stand. Understandable considering the 55" size). Set up was very simple and intuitive. Connected via 5GHz wireless. There is option of connecting via ethernet but so far I am not noticing any bandwidth issues on wireless.
- The viera connect and internet features are great. DLNA support is amazing. Could connect to ps3 media server application on my pc and stream some dvd movies with dolby 5.1 sound. Browser wasn't installed out of the box, but could install it from viera market. There is android and ios app to control the tv as well as browser from smart phone.
- Netflix HD movies looked great. Was no way to determine the resolution but picture was clearly hi defination, better than dvd format, no buffering/stuttering.
- There are plentey of movie streaming apps including amazon, vudu and others some subcriptin based some free.
- Other than movie streaming and browsers no other viera applications I guess are much useful. There are weather, news, fitness, game applications out there but I think smartphone/tablet is better device to access them.
- The new advertised 8 train speakers with 3d sound - I checked out the tv sound , was crystal clear, with some sourround effect but not something which will replace your 5.1 sorround system. I have Onkyo 7.1 system and the sound was no match to Onkyo. Quickly switched back to Onkyo. Plugged ps3 and cablebox to reciever via hdmi and used optical out from tv to connect to reciever for audio from streaming, audio/video applications, sd/usb streaming. The optical out from tv is passing dolby digital signals but as from online forums the optical connection can pass only two channels. Good for most but if you want all the channels when available you will need hdmi cable with audio return channel and a supporting reciever.
- The browser and the touch pad on android phone to control browser doesn't looked like fully baked in. The cursor is very difficult to move/control. Moves very slowly. The browser also wasn't easy to navigate around. Hopefully Panasonic comes up with updates to browser and phone application to address these areas. The android remote application is fully functional and very handy except the cursor control. Could project photos from my phone onto tv.
I wasn't able to control the cabel box and ps3 connected via hdmi using the viera link. I guess only panasonic products are supported. Would be great to get support for other devices to cut down on number of remotes.
No new compatible Bluetooth 3d glasses available yet. I tried 3d in store on last years gt30 and it was looking awsom. Expect 50 series perform better in 3d display.

So overall

5.0 out of 5 stars Best tablet available in market with some scope for improvement, June 27, 2011
Best tablet available in market with some scope for improvement

Pros : Fast, Very good battery performance, flash support, very slim and lightweight, supports google video chat, widescreen aspect ratio, very good sterio
speakers, best OS for tablets 3.1 (honeycomb)

Cons : fewer apps available compared to ipad, doesn't load desktop version of sites by default, no skype, netflix, cablevision tv apps available, pricey,
no storage card slot, no usb slot
Update - You can switch the user agent to desktop for browser in debug mode. The desktop version sites would load by default.

This is my first purchase of a tablet and it has exceeded most of my expectations. It's beautiful, blazing fast, slick and display is amazing.
You can't really compare this with ipad as android is the best operating system for mobile devices, very powerful, highly customizable.
Applications and web pages load very fast. Have not encountered any crashes so far. It seems to work faster than my 3Gz desktop and core i5 lenova.
Can connect to phone data network (using the android froyo's mobile AP feature) and got 3-4 mbps connection. It is perfect for browsing in car and outdoor use.
No need to get expensive 3g/4g version along with expensive data plan.
Battery performance is unbelievable. Never had to use it continuously for 8-10 hours, however doesn't seem to discharge fast even while watching video.
Battery never discharged fully even after hours of heavy use.
Flash support is the highlight. Flash didn't work out of the box but installed flash 10.3 and then flash content would load and play smoothly exactly same as on desktop.
Though marginally thinner than ipad2 it it does feel considerably thinner and slick while handling. The grip is very good while holding in hand, can
be easily hold in one hand while interacting using other. Edges are smooth and build quality does not look any way inferior to ipad2.
Google video chat was amazing. Could take out of the house (within wifi range) and video chat worked perfectly. Can even switch from front to back camera.
Did take good quality pictures though can not be compared to a regular good quality camera. Smile shot, panorama, action shot, geo-tagging seems to be handy features.
Widescreen aspect ration is a must for watching videos. Don't understand why ipad2 is still stuck with old 3x4 ratio.
Speakers work perfectly, crisp and loud enough for listening to music. Speakers are located on left and right side, doesn't come under fingers while holding and clearly
outputs the stereophonic sounds.
The honeycomb operating system is the best in already superior android OS series. Very powerful, fast, stable, customizable. Android is the best operating system
for touch enabled devices. No comparison to Apple's iOS. iOS looks like a OS for dummies when compared to Android.

Nothing is perfect. There are few areas improvement -
Considerable less number of tablet version apps are there in market. Most missed ones are skype, netflix, cablevision tv which are available for ipad.
Surprisingly the browser loads mobile version of sites. It is understandable on mobile phones however tablet should load the desktop versions by default
since it's tablet computer and not a mobile phone device. Some sites do not have links to their desktop version and you are stuck browsing mobile versions on the tab.
Hopefully Google corrects this in near future.
Update - You can switch the user agent to desktop for browser in debug mode. The desktop version sites would load by default.
No SD card slot for storage expansion and no usb slot. That's a big minus. The adapter currently available from samsung is expensive.
Being new to market not many accessories are available. Hopefully they will available in near future.

Price though competitive with iPad, motorola zoom very high compared to other tablets in market which are sold as low as $150.

So overall it's an amazing tablet which will replace your desktop/laptop with few shortcomings and undoubtably the best amongst those available in market.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best place buy genuine - Costco, May 7, 2011
These are perfect only if genuine. some sellers on amazon are apparently selling counterfit heads. I purchased once from one of these sellers and they didn't last long. Costco sells them pack of 8 for $32. That is $4 per head. Least price available.
And they are genuine. They always work well last long for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good video capability, compact & stylish, May 15, 2008
Overall video capability of the TG1 is pretty good
The most appealing and useful feature is the ultra portability.
Also the startup time is very short. With the compact size, fast startup
time and easy to use design you will end up using this camera at many places/occasions and more often than the bulky ones.

Once you start recording video you'll be stunned by how pictures are wonderfully shown on its little LCD. The picture quality though not as good as professional 1080 videos but very good for the camera of this size. I had earlier tried Sony CX7. The quality is lot better than CX7.

Low light picture is horrible - very grainy and lot's of noise, worse than SD tape cameras. But this something you have accept with such a tiny camcorder.

Can you believe - there is no remote control. You have sit next to you TV browsing through and selecting your video and pictures unless you want to play all of them in the sequence they are and without fast forwarding.
All camcorders had remote control. I wonder why not TG1. Perhaps it's because of the compact size.

The good news is the TG1 overcomes something that many competitors, Sanyo included, are failing at. Image Stabilization (IS) is amazingly stunning and precise whether or not you are Zooming. As far as Auto Focus (AF) is concerned, the TG1 doesn't overkill but offers good performance particularly in Macro Mode which, like the IS, is astonishingly impressive.

Plus:
Very Compact and Stylish
Fast start up time , very easy to use
Good video
Good AF even in Low Light
Great IS

Minus:
Grainy pictures, noise in low light
No remote control
Poor Photo Mode
Needs Sony proprietary Software to edit video on your PC

Onkyo HT-S907 7.1 Channel Component Home Theater Audio System (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound but some video issues, April 6, 2008
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This system has a very good sound. However the dvd player has problems. There is some issue when used with hdmi connectiont. Some kind of shadow or distortion appears on black portion of the picture. This shadow or distortation is so bad that I had to use component cable. Picture qualit is good using component cable. I couldn't find solution to this problem online. Onkyo customer support never picks up the phone. Packing and returning this huge system would be an adventure so I decided to live with the hdmi video issue. If anybody knows solution to this picture distortion problem using hdmi please let me know.

1.0 out of 5 stars pathetic. Worst experience, May 27, 2006
This review is from: Motorola RAZR V3 Black (AT&T)
This was my worst experience bying anything online.

I placed order for cingular service twice and they didn't approve me despite of my excellent credit. Don't know why.

I went to a local store they gave me razr free and activated the line in minutes. Amazon is worst for bying cellular services. Cingular wouldn't entertain any enquiry and amazon doesn't have any contact information.

2.0 out of 5 stars An ordinary quality bag with enough space for all your photo & video equipments, April 30, 2006
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This bag has enough space for still, video camera, a small compact tripod, power charging cords and all other cords, mini DVs. However the outer look and quality of the bag is same as any other bag which you can buy under $10. Bieng samsonite brand I had expected to have outstanding look and outer finish. However it is just an ordinary quality bag which you can pick up in wall mart for lot less price.
