Parents of preadolescents will love "Wizarday" but they may have to wait their turn to read it, February 28, 2011
"Wizarday" is an educational story/game book that teaches preadolescents ages 8-12 and their families the importance of establishing and tweaking a healthy daily routine. "Wizarday" is filled with fun characters, silly names and games and charts to track schedules and routines for all members of the family. Even more important, reading "Wizarday" teaches kids that creating, maintaining and tweaking a daily routine can make life more fun as well as more healthy. Scheduled around a ghostly holiday (Halloween), the events of "Wizarday" lead to fun-filled games and routine -related deals that somehow lead to smooth operations of daily routines and increased family harmony. How does all this work? It really is best to read the book, besides, it's more fun that way! For readers who question how such a fun book can deal with complicated issues like daily schedules for families of preadolescent kids, page 80 sums the importance of routine and the unique approach of "Wizarday" to the issues relating to routine. It's all about dynamic learning through imaginative multi sensory input such as fun board games and playful two-way communication. Parents of preadolescents will love "Wizarday" but they may have to wait their turn to read it.

A fine and thoughtful read, February 25, 2011
Rebelling against one's parents is rarely thought out the best it can be. "Barney and the Runaway" tells the story of Mike Ellis, who flees his parents with his dog, sick of their rules. Ending up in a circus, Mike soon learns that parental love may not be obvious, but it's always there. A story of a child coming to understand their parents, "Barney and the Runaway" is a fine and thoughtful read.

A fine coffee table book for those who enjoy Native American Northwestern styled artistic work, February 25, 2011
Contemporary techniques, native styles. "Contemporary Art on the Northwest Coast: Salish Nuu-Chah-Nulth Makah" is a collection of art that reflects on the Northwestern native American culture as many modern artists look to embrace this classical style in homages and tradition. Packed cover to cover with full color photographs and reproductions, Karen & Ralph Norris provide commentary on the work and provide insight on their creation. The photographs show both the art, and in some cases its production, and in other, its use, such as a painted canoe being honored by being put out on the lake. "Contemporary Art on the Northwest Coast" is a fine coffee table book for those who enjoy Native American Northwestern styled artistic work, as well as a fine addition to any art collection.

Highly recommended especially for children's public library multicultural picturebook collections, February 25, 2011
Cinderella: An Islamic Tale is a picturebook of a classic Islamic fable, retold by Fawzia Gilani. The gentle and pious Zahra's parents die, she lives a harsh life with a stepmother who cares little for her. Yet she stays true to her beliefs and her principles, and her inner goodness ultimately earns her goodness in reward. "As for the stepmother and stepsisters, when they saw how Allah had rewarded Zahra's goodness, they were filled with shame. They repented for their sins and asked for her forgiveness. And, remembering the example of the Prophet Yusuf and his brothers, Princess Zahra forgave them wholeheartedly." Simple, colorful illustrations enhance this lovely recreation of a cherished fairy tale, and the final two pages offer a glossary of Arabic terms as well as a brief footnote list of the passages from the Qur'an and Hadith referred to by the story. Cinderella: An Islamic Tale is highly recommended especially for children's public library multicultural picturebook collections.
