A Life of Her Own
A Life of Her Own

5.0 out of 5 stars Minna, Minna, You Will Not Soon Be Forgotten, August 18, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Life of Her Own (Kindle Edition)
I will not soon forget heroine, Minna. Author Joan G. Hauser crafts (make that, sculpts) stories within stories. She employs "the theatre of the mind". She writes like an accomplished water color artist. She allows rich and textured white parchment to fill in where her "colors" feather off. Characters, settings, aroma, chaos, fabric (sewing materials), lighting (lack of it), glances, sullenness, skin pallor, sounds, louder sounds, are carefully chiseled, cleverly leaving other details to be fleshed out by the reader. This historically accurate (circa early 1900s) and riveting slice of intense lives against spartan backdrops, I believe, bodes well for legitimate Broadway boards. I was brought to tears, more than once.

This brilliant colored shirt let's people know where you are if you ride a bike in public. Long sleeves protect you from the sun. Even on a hot day, the fabric breathes. Holds up under frequent washes. Color-fast, so far. It is NOT all cotton, however, just so you know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ever use a back-lit giant mall "map" to figure out where you are? Where are you now in your life?, December 14, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Warning! Author Van Harden is a close friend, former co-worker, direct report, inventor, writer, speaker, believer, witnesser, broadcaster, morning show founder & co-host, multi-radio station program director, veteran Sunday school teacher, loving husband, devoted father, lover of bananas & fake flamingos, and pretty much knows how to remove pesky deep mustard stains. That said, is it no surprise that I recommend this quick read (approx. 49 pages)? Of course not. Sum-up: If you have ever tried to figure out at a giant mall where you are by staring at a back-lit stores “map” (diagram) you have just learned what this book is all about. Where are you in your life right now, this nano-second? Van Harden has been called to assist you in this delicious quest. Agree or disagree, you’ll never forget this handy “manual”. sQs Delray Beach FL

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for the contraian job hunter passionate about finding quality employment, November 19, 2013

Because more than 120 have already positively reviewed Mitch's newest tome, I elect to use my "career trainer" lens to embrace and review.
I immediately shared a hard copy of the book (my version is on Kindle) with a former co-worker job hunting.
Get "squiggly" (my favorite word from the book plus "purgatory") is my way of recommending your read every word.
Rebooting you is essential if you are serious about finding quality employment.
When you do, AFTER reading Mitch's keen advice, two things are bound to happen: 1) You'll find a better job than you expected, and, 2) You'll be a whole lot more cool than competing applicants.
Not kidding.
Though, obviously, not a career self-help volume, it offers career searchers several recipes, if adopted, will ensure you never again will allow yourself to be suddenly unemployed.
I favor the title despite Bill Gates saying "control-alt-delete" was a software mistake. Mitch's title bridges the so-called "old" with the so-called "new". My hunch is the content and context will be more evergreen than we thought.
Thanks Mitch for smoothly and candidly setting forth why it is important to be squiggly to escape the purgatory in which we find ourselves or our enterprise, or both.
Quick and easy read

THE HUNGRY EYE
THE HUNGRY EYE
by EUGENE PAUL
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars He, Steve Q Shannon, "Has the energy of a man half his age"...25?, March 5, 2013
This review is from: THE HUNGRY EYE (Paperback)
Full disclosure. I am mentioned in this alleged history of television set in the very early days before there was even video tape and most shows were live. Author Eugene Paul offers a breezy overview that when it was copyrighted in 1962 seemed reasonable. Today you might get a giggle out of it especially if you ever worked in local live TV in the hinter lands of television, Phoenix, AZ as only one example. If you know what kinescopes, balops, and Snaders mean, it will be a quick and fun read. Thanks for reading this lone review. You are appreciated. sQs Delray Beach FL (Not retired)

5.0 out of 5 stars 7 Reasons I Love Tea's Book, December 25, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
1) Tea Connects - You immediately feel safe. No BS.
2) Tea Clarifies - She clearly sets the "table" for what's to come.
3) Tea promotes Collaboration from the start. You feel you're in her inner circle.
4) Tea Cheerleads - She persuades you to keep at it with stories, one about a friend who almost gives up, and her own narrative. Works for me!
5) Tea Commits to giving and giving more. This is not a 60-page "pitch".
6) With 21 years solopreneurism under my belt, I'm still learning. Tea causes me to listen and learn.
7) Tea sings Seth Godin's praises while quoting other mutual favorites. Comfort writing for the mind.
Bonus: This should be #1 - Tea writes engrossingly. I'm set for multiple reps (reads). PS - Find out who wrote what one of Tea's favorite authors said was his best work when he penned, "For Sale: Baby Shoes, Never Worn".

The Job Search Solution: The Ultimate System for Finding a Great Job Now!Truth is truth, you dasn't argue with Tony. He says it like it. He sells, tells, and BELIEVES, big time in what he has experienced since 1973. If for no other reason read this title (and I suspect it is true of his other titles too) and you will find Tony's sweet spot. Decide to be a slave to his advice and win a great new job. With my 20 plus years in career training Tony makes me look like a neophyte, specifically because of his recruiting expertise and his interviewing advice. I like to think of Tony as the "Cable Guy" of job search advice. Did I mention he has been at this since 1973? Your main challenge will be the length, nearly 300 pages. Whew!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unvarnished Happy Results, May 13, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Full disclosure! When Mary Elizabeth found out I purchased Interview Follow-Up she asked me to add my review. I felt like a kid in a candy store. This is a happy book with great ideas.
Mary Elizabeth not only publishes what and how to be successful, she spells out word-for-word texts as promised. She serves up what to say and when to say it in support of cold calls, sudden voice mail, and crisply, what to say in hard copy and e-mail follow-ups. Hold on. She also shares "when," meaning how often you should follow-up. You feel like you are in on a conspiracy to avoid crowds, bypassing dreaded behemoth job boards, and understaffed HR departments. Hat tip! Click on link below. It's a perfect couplet for this book.
