This is a textbook on tracking, full stop! If you want a military starched course on tracking anything, then this is it. Be prepared to get hit with the most comprehensive lesson in tracking yet. As an ex military person I was not surprised by what I got, and you get your money's worth.

This is an account written a long time ago by a pious monk. So "Name of the rose" it aint! What you you get is factual experience mixed with third party mythology. I have to admit that I love this stuff! While witches were being burnt at the stake and "evil doers" were in the stocks, just the sheer romance of a wilder time makes up for the dry style that this is written in, after all, there were no ghostwritters at that time.

History is one of the most conjecture ridden areas of human thought and the history of an illiterate peoples doubly so. So it is no surprise that theologians from all parts argue about the truth in Steppe warrior history. Nonetheless I consider this book to be the best concise distillation of Steppe culture history and highly recommend it to anyone interested in the subject.

2.0 out of 5 stars too much poetry, March 23, 2011

Anyone who wants to read about the war in Rhodesia should stay away from this poetic diatribe. No offence to Dan but he should have jumped ship and gone to England while the REAL war was going down, because this is so befuddled that it could have been written during the Victorian Era with liberal doses of opiates involved. If you want the low down on the Rhodesian war then read Chris Cocks's excellent account "Fireforce" or Charlie Warrens "At the going down of the sun". The reading of this book is painfull at best and would probably best be used as a very thick drinks coaster, probably after page 3 by most people interested in the subject! Sorry Dan but stick to peotry!
