1.0 out of 5 stars highly disappointing audio CD narrator; GREAT STORY, May 22, 2011
I read The Age of Shiva in novel form and enjoyed it immensely. I was excited to see it also available in audio CD. The one star rating I gave the audio CD version has nothing to do with the novel itself; the fault lies with the narrator. The strange, uneven, unnatural accent was completely unexpected and incredibly annoying. I listened to only a little bit of the audio CD and could not bear more even though the novel was brilliantly written. A better choice of narrator could have made this a very enjoyable experience; perhaps she could have read it in her normal accent instead of faking an Indian style one mixed with other unidentified accents. Do yourself a great favor: only read it yourself and do not get this on CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars 80's style: simply great stuff, January 21, 2011
I am so pleased with this DVD set. It has perfect quality picture and sound. I really love the original show from the 70's but this 80's version is also great. I like being able to see how the characters progressed in life. A majority of the plot lines are interesting and very entertaining. It would have been nice if the Dee character had a permanent spot on the show and if the mother had a few guest appearances too. I have a teenage sister that really dislikes most of what is shown on television these days so I got her to watch this show and she enjoys it greatly. She keeps telling me that wishes there were more episodes. This is a clean, funny sitcom that brings you back to the days of the 80s. This show is as wonderful as What's Happening and I really hope the other seasons are released soon because I would definitely buy them.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best films ever made, January 21, 2011
This review is from: Khamoshi - The Musical (DVD)
This is one of the best films ever made. The setting of Goa was a wonderful choice because it is a fresh, welcome change from the majority of Hindi films. Most of the music was enjoyable; very catchy, sweet, melodic, and nicely incorporated into the plot. It was realistic in terms of the way the characters dressed, reacted, the hardships they faced, their rejoicing, and their surroundings. I was able to relate to the normalcy of the atmosphere of the film. The storyline revolves around mute and deaf parents who have a child, Annie, that serves as their link to the world of the hearing and speaking. The parents had great chemistry and talent and were very well cast in their role. Manisha Koirala delivers a phenomenal performance in her portrayal of Annie. Her character possesses a wonderful singing voice and strong devotion to her parents . Her grandmother Mariam, played by dancing star of yesteryear Helen, exposed her to the world of music and encouraged her talent. She is an artistic, lively, fun-loving lady. It was a pleasure seeing her in this role. Salman Khan's character, Raj, played Annie's romantic interest. Raj is also a music director and is both humorous and endearing. He was perfect for this role. The relationship between the characters is captivating, heart-warming, believable, and very realistic with a touch of Hindi film sparkle. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Salman's best perfomances; unconventional plot, January 21, 2011
This review is from: Tere Naam (2 Disc Set) (DVD)
This is one of the best Hindi films that I have seen over the last few years. The soundtrack is quite good; especially Tumse Milna, Tere Naam, Kyon Kisi Ko. They are beautifully presented in the movie and fit in very well with the plot. Salman Khan gives one of the best performances of his career. His portrayal of an unusual main character was highly convincing. Radhe is an unconventional main character, very rough around the edges, tough on the outside, and takes some time to warm up to. Yet despite his shortcomings, Radhe was also able to recognize and appreciate the pure goodness within the character Nirjara played by Bhumika Chawla. She does fine in her part as an innocent, pious, religious college student. There is nothing inappropriate in the film, it is focuses on middle class Indians, and Salman delivers an excellent, haunting performance. This love story is not conventional at all and this is one the main reasons it definitely a movie worth watching. The second disc includes clips of some of Salman's most memorable movie scenes and popular song videos. Highly recommended.

Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I really enjoyed watching this show as a child when it was in syndication years ago. I am so glad I have TV shows like this on DVD to watch whenever I want to, instead of the mindless, irritating reality shows of today. Excellent quality transfer, very entertaining, highly recommended. Just buy a CD book to put the DVD's in because they will get damaged the way they are packaged with all the discs stacked directly on top of each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars A review from a Junooni, January 9, 2011
I am a great admirer of Salman Ahmad's band Junoon. I am so glad I accidentally found this book while looking for another novel at my local bookstore. It is well-written, entertaining, inspirational, and highly informative. Recommended for fans of rock music and those with an interest in South Asia and Islam. I am still hoping for a Junoon reunion CD or tour :)
