5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Award-Winning 2nd Album from Kyary Pamyu Pamyu!, June 29, 2014
This review is from: Nanda Collection (Audio CD)
"Nanda Collection" is the 2nd album recorded by Japanese singer Kyary Pamyu Pamyu! Produced by Yasutaka Nakata (who also writes & produces music for Capsule and Perfume), "Nanda Collection" is a fun and energetic mix of highly addictive song! You don't have to understand Japanese to enjoy listening to Kyary Pamyu Pamyu as her ever-growing international fan base demonstrates!

The album's title is an invented portmanteau of the expression "nanda kore" (なんだこれ), meaning "what's this?" in Japanese, and "collection" (これくしょん, "korekushon").

The album includes the following songs:

1. "Nanda Collection"
2. "Ninja Re Bang Bang"
3. "Kimini 100 Percent"
4. "Super Scooter Happy"
5. "Invader Invader"
6. "Mi"
7. "Fashion Monster"
8. "Saigo no Ice Cream"
9. "Noriko to Norio"
10. "Furisodeshon"
11. "Kura Kura"
12. "Otona Na Kodomo"

Preceding the release of the album, the 5 singles "Fashion Monster", "Kimi ni 100 Percent", "Furisodeshon", "Ninja Re Bang Bang" and "Invader Invader" all peaked within the top five of the Billboard Japan Hot 100!

"Nanda Collection" debuted at number one in Japan and has performed strongly around the globe. In the United States, the album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Top World Albums chart. Internationally, the album topped the iTunes charts of several countries and within the Top 10 and Top 20 of numerous others.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has received numerous awards for "Nanda Collection", including (most recently) "Best Album of the Year" from the 2014 "Video Music Awards Japan" (VMAJ) produced by "MTV Japan"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Multi-port Wi-fi Hub, December 29, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased a TRENDnet 300 Mbps Wireless N 4-Port Media Bridge from Amazon several months ago and it has worked flawlessly ever since. We currently have 3 devices connected to it, including a smart TV, blu-ray player and a converter box. Each of the connected devices have flawless internet connections for streaming media and other types of internet data. We've streamed HD-quality movies through the Media Bridge with no observable loss of quality or signal.

If you need to connect several devices to the internet that are in close proximity to each other, I strongly recommend considering this product as it will likely be cheaper than purchasing multiple wifi hubs; each of which would then need to be independently configured to connect to your wifi router. The setup for the TRENDnet 300 Mbps Wireless N 4-Port Media Bridge was very easy to do and once completed, you don't have to worry about doing any other router settings for the devices connected to it because it's already done in the Media Bridge. This is a fantastic product!

1.0 out of 5 stars Unreliable: Frequent Loss of Connectivity & Poor Signal Strength, July 29, 2011
We purchased a Netgear N600 Wirreless Dual Band Gigabit Router (WNDR3700) less than one month ago. While the router was very easy to install, it has proven to be highly unreliable with frequent losses of connectivity (occurring about once every 10 minutes) and webpage download delays. Our primary reason for wanting to get this router was its alleged high speed and performance, neither of which has proven to be valid: the 5-GHz antenna has very low signal strength as compared with the 2.4 GHz band making it unusable and the 802.11n capability is non-existent.

We will be returning this router for a refund and have resumed using our older and far more reliable Linksys WRT54GL router.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worked for 18 Months Until Vacuum Seal Failed, July 6, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased a 1.1-quart Stanley Overtime Vacuum Bottle in October, 2009 and was very happy with it until last month when I noticed that hot coffee was cooling too rapidly: it was at room-temperature within 3 hours. Originally, hot coffee would remain pretty hot for as long as 7 to 8 hours after being poured into the container. I can only assume that the seal for the vacuum had failed, but not from the inner lining because no liquid was sloshing around when the container was empty. While I could not detect any visible damage (the container had never fallen), some very small leak in the outer shell must have formed. Unfortunately, it wouldn't have taken much of a leak for air to rush in, compromise the vacuum and eliminate the inner container's insulation.

I'm giving the 1.1-quart Stanley Overtime Vacuum Bottle a 3-star review because even though the container's insulating vacuum ultimately failed, it did save me several hundred dollars by allowing me to have hot coffee brewed from home at work instead of purchasing hot coffee on a daily basis. Thus, the container did more than pay for itself, but it did not live up to the manufacturer's listed 5-year warranty. I have replaced the 1.1-quart Stanley Overtime Vacuum Bottle with one similar in design and size from a different manufacturer that has a higher overall rating from a significantly larger number of product reviewers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Overheated After 3 Months, Plastic Case Buckled From Heat Exposure, Device Completely Dead, June 11, 2009
I am extremely disappointed with the Maxtor Central Axis 1 TB Network Storage Server. We obtained one earlier this year. Initially, it worked quite well and permitted several computers to connect to it over our home network. Then, after about 3 months, it began to have problems requiring periodic reboots. Finally, it could no longer successfully reboot or connect to the home network. A sensor light on the bottom of the front panel flashes red & white, indicating an internal failure. Of course, it's easy to see why the device failed: one side of the plastic case buckled from heat exposure. Since there were no other heat sources or electronic devices immediately next to the Maxtor Central Axis device that could have generated any heat, it's obvious that the melting was caused when its own internal electronics overheated. I'm just glad that it didn't start a fire.

My advice to anyone considering to purchase the Maxtor Central Axis is as follows: don't do it; get something similar from another manufacturer that is less likely to overheat and completely fail. While the device that we purchased is under warranty, comments from customers on other forums indicate that replacement devices also overheat. Thus, overheating of the internal electronics is a chronic problem. The device was clearly designed with inadequate heat sinks and internal cooling fans.

Don't waste your money on the Maxtor Central Axis.

1.0 out of 5 stars Deplorable Sequel with Forgettable Music, Poor Plot & Bad Story, February 21, 2009
This review is from: Grease 2 (DVD)
Four years after the highly successful comedy/musical "Grease" hit the big screen in 1978, an attempt was made to cash-in once more with a ill-conceived, poorly written sequel named "Grease 2". Directed by Patricia Birch (who had worked as a choreographer on the original "Grease") and written by Ken Finkleman (who also wrote & directed the equally deplorable "Airplane II: The Sequel" the same year), this film's utterly unoriginal plot finds yet another Aussie student enrolling at Rydel High, and there, becoming smitten with a local American girl. The clean-cut Aussie student, Michael Carrington (Maxwell Caulfield, who is from Scotland, not Australia), in order to win the affections of Pink Lady Stephanie Zinone (Michelle Pfeiffer) must find a way to be accepted into this now motorcycle-obsessed counter-culture. He gets a job, starts building a motorcycle from scratch, starts doing homework for the unremarkable T-Birds, oh, and agrees to perform in the school's talentless "talent" show.

Clearly having nothing else to do on their schedules, several actors from the original 1978 "Grease" reprized their roles in this atrocious sequel to try and give it some legitimacy: Frenchy (Didi Conn) who apparently never graduated, Principal McGee (Eve Arden, 1908-1990), Coach Calhoun (Sid Caesar) and Blanche Hodel (1914-2008). I am very happy to report that the creators of the original "Grease", Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey (1935-1988), had absolutely nothing to do with this celluloid disaster. With an estimated $13.2-million budget, the film never earned that much in its combined box-office receipts. It's also doubtful whether revenue from rentals & DVD/VHS sales ever put this bomb into the black. Overall, my rating for "Grease 2" is 1 out of 5 stars. I doubt Michelle Pfeiffer keeps this film on her resumé.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take Your Favorite Music, Podcasts, Pictures & Videos With You on a Zune!, January 31, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I recently purchased a Microsoft Zune 120-GB multimedia player and am very pleased with its performance, compact design, sound quality, screen size, battery life and ease of use. I have used the Zune to listen to MP3 files, watch videos, watch podcasts, and listen to FM radio stations. MP3 file playback sound quality is excellent. When playing MP3 files, the Zune will display the album's cover for several seconds after you select the song or change the volume. The Zune also displays album covers when you browse your saved music collection. (If the Zune's PC software is unable to recover an image for a particular album, then it will use a default album icon, but you have the option of using a different album image by supplying it directly to the Zune's PC software.)

Depending upon your location and the signal strength of an FM radio station, sound quality while listening to an FM radio station with the Zune is very good. When listening to an FM radio station, the Zune displays the radio station's call letters, format and current song information on the Zune's display if the particular station that you are listening to transmits that digital information within its signal. You can then easily save your favorite FM radio stations as presets for fast tuning.

Video playback is truly excellent on the 120-GB Zune with its 320x240 screen that is significantly larger than other players with similar storage capacity. In addition to music, a number of TV episodes are available from the Zune Marketplace, as are a large number of free podcasts. If you have your own video files, you can upload them into the Zune as long as they are a compatible video file type (either WMV or MP4). If they're not compatible, there are a number of different software applications available (many for free) that will convert the video files into Zune-compatible files. Using the sound & video output cable, you can even watch videos saved on a Zune directly to a TV. This is even easier while using the AV dock that permits component video out.

As for the Zune's PC software, I had absolutely no difficulties installing it on my PC, which uses the Microsoft Vista operation system. The software will automatically check for any updates from Microsoft for both the PC software and the Zune's embedded software. It then found all of the music files that I already had on my PC that I had copied from CD's or purchased online and synchronized the Zune with my own music collection. The Zune's PC software is easy to use to rip CD's. It's also very easy to then synchronize (copy) the new music files onto the Zune with only a few mouse drags & clicks. It's also easy to copy image and video files onto the Zune. Since video files can be very large, you'll want to be patient since the larger the video file, the longer it will take to get it onto the Zune.

As for the Zune's battery life, Microsoft programmers were good in ensuring that battery life will be extended by automatically turning off the Zune's display when you are listening to music or the radio. If you change the volume or do something else with the Zune's menus, then the display will automatically come back on. Of course, if you're watching a video or looking at images, this requires a higher sustained current draw on the battery, so the battery's charge won't last as long. If you are planning to watch videos frequently on the Zune, then you might want to keep a charger or the Zune's computer cable with you so that you can keep the batteries charged. I have listened to music stored on the Zune for many hours on a single charge.

My overall rating for the Microsoft 120-GB Zune is 5 out 5 stars as I very much enjoy using it. Before you decide to purchase a Zune (or any other portable MP3 player), do some research to determine if some other manufacturer's MP3/video player is more suitable in meeting your own individual needs, as there are quite a few manufacturers producing portable MP3 & video players. That's what I did. A note for XBox 360 owners: you can share files between the Zune and the XBox 360. Also, if you have a registered XBox 360 online account, you can use that same account with your Zune. Additionally, you can optionally use the Zune's social network to track which music you listen to most and find other Zune users with similar musical tastes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fun For Anyone, Regardless of Age, March 2, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
"Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga" is a fun and entertaining videogame for both children and adults alike. All six "Star Wars" films are represented in six separate games, which each game containing six levels. First you must play a level in "story" mode: meaning that you must play that level using characters as defined by the game. Once you complete a level, you can replay it in "free mode", which allows you to play it with any characters that you have unlocked to that point. A variety of items are hidden in each level, some of which cannot be accessed until you can play that level in "free mode". For example, some areas are only accessible to bounty hunters and some objects can only be accessed using the dark side of the force.

With each level successfully completed, the player earns a gold Lego block; and the more Lego pieces that are collected while playing a level, the more Lego "money" is earned, as well as the possibility of earning "Jedi status" for that level, which earns yet another gold Lego block. Finding hidden items in each level may unlock other abilities that can be purchased if you have earned enough Lego money. XBOX-360 Achievements are earned for completing each film-based game, as well as for other game accomplishments.

Since the game's developers went to great lengths to recreate the look and feel of the "Star Wars" universe, as well as the plot of each film, in a Lego-format, "Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga" is an immersive game that is sure to provide many hours of entertainment and fun to anyyone. Hence, my overall rating for "Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga" is a resounding 5 out of 5 stars and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Music from the B-52's: Absolutely Fantastic!, February 6, 2008
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Funplex (MP3 Music)
Sixteen years following the release of the B-52's last completely recorded album, "Good Stuff", and ten years following the the release of any new songs by the B-52's (the songs "Debbie" and "Hallucinating Pluto" that were released on the 1998 compilation album "Time Capsule: Songs for a Future Generation"), the B-52's are preparing to once again release another album of completely new songs. This new album, called "Funplex" and slated for release on March 25, 2008, has been preceded by the release of the single called "Funplex" (the title song from the yet-to-be-released album).

The song "Funplex" is absolutely fantastic and a clear indication that the B-52's have not lost any abilities to compose great new songs! The song begins with strong guitar strumming by Keith Strickland, followed by vocals from Kate Pierson and later by Fred Schneider. The chorus includes from well-harmonized vocals by Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson before continuing with vocals from Cindy, followed by Fred. As this wonderfully fun song progresses, there are more vocals from Kate, Cindy and Fred and a fun instrumental transition. No wonder it's called "Funplex"! There is little doubt that the rest of the songs on the upcoming album "Funplex" will be just as fantastic as the album's namesake song and I can't wait to get it! I therefore rate the single "Funplex" with a resounding 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to everyone, especially B-52's aficionados! I also extend many thanks to the B-52's for this and the upcoming new songs!

5.0 out of 5 stars "We'll follow the old man where ever he wants to go!", January 13, 2008
This review is from: White Christmas (DVD)
Back in 1954, director Michael Curtiz (1886-1962, who won the Oscar for Best Director for the 1942 film "Casablanca") directed a musical that has become a beloved Yuletide classic for many people (myself included): "White Christmas". With the all-star cast of Bing Crosby (1903-1977), Danny Kay (1913-1987), Rosemary Clooney (1928-2002), Vera Ellen (1921-1981) and Mary Wickes (1910-1995), the film is often regarded as an updated remake of the 1942 classic "Holiday Inn", which also starred Bing Crosby and featured the same classic Yuletide song, "White Christmas". Though the two films do have many similarities (they're both musicals with lots of song and dance and they both have two main male characters), there are sufficient differences in their respective plots to make each film a unique viewing experience.

"White Christmas" begins on a World War II battlefield with soldiers performing a Christmas show for their fellow soldiers. The two starring soldiers are Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby) and Phil Davis (Danny Kaye). During the performance, all of the soldiers in attendance pay homage to their commander, General Thomas F. Waverly (Dean Jagger). The film then moves forward to its present day of 1954 where it finds Wallace & Davis as being very popular and successful on-stage song & dance performers. After one of their performances, they go to a nightclub where they a performance by two beautiful sisters: Betty Haynes (Rosemary Clooney) and Judy Haynes (Vera Ellen). Bob & Phil become infatuated with the pair (Phil more than Bob). They meet each other and Phil sneakily arranges for himself and Bob to go to Vermont, where the Haynes sisters are going, instead of their planned destination for their next performance. Bob isn't too happy initially with Phil's subterfuge, but relents and enjoys the trip with the Haynes sisters to the Vermont ski lodge. Sadly, when they arrive, there isn't any snow; but they quickly discover who owns the ski lodge: their former commander, the retired General Thomas F. Waverly, who is assisted by his daughter Anne Waverly (Anne Whitfield) and Emma Allen (Mary Wickes). The unfortunate lack of snow isn't very good for the ski lodges business, but Bob & Phil decide to help the retired general in the best way that they know.

Songs by Irving Berlin in "White Christmas" include many wonderful and catchy tunes as listed below. (Vera Ellen's singing was dubbed by Trudy Stevens.)

* "The Old Man/Gee I Wish I Was Back In The Army" (5 stars, performed by Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and chorus).
* "Sisters" (5+ stars, Rosemary Clooney, Trudy Stevens and chorus).
* "The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing" (4 stars, Danny Kaye with the Skylarks & chorus.)
* "Snow" (5+ stars, Bing Crosby, Danny Kay, Rosemary Clooney, Trudy Stevens and chorus).
* "Blue Skies/Mandy" (4 stars, Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and chorus.)
* "Choreography" (5 stars, Danny Kaye, the Skylarks & chorus.)
* "Count Your Blessings Instead Of Sheep" (5 stars, Bing Crosby.)
* "Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me" (5 stars, Rosemary Clooney.)
* "What Can You Do With The General" (5+ stars, Bing Crosby.)
* "White Christmas" (5+ stars, Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, Trudy Stevens & chorus.)

"White Christmas" has deservedly become an annual Yuletide classic that will be enjoyed by many generations to come. Overall, I rate the film with 5 out of 5 stars. Also on the DVD is an excellent commentary by Rosemary Clooney. Sadly, "White Christmas" was Vera Ellen's second-to-last film after she decided to retire from acting.
