5.0 out of 5 stars Authentic, Well Done Paranormal Fantasy!, January 5, 2015
As a fan of audio books, I know what works, a great story coupled with talented narration of which The Thought Readers had both. I enjoyed the authentic paranormal fantasy story line detailing the psychic adventures of mind reading, central character Darren, this turned out to be engaging as well as an entertaining listen.

The book moved at a steady pace with distinct moments of excitement, humor, emotion and romance which were well - presented with the adeptly consistent narration of reader Roberto Scarlato, who did well with the characterizations, especially when it came to character's accents. I would definitely recommend The Thought Readers and look forward to the next audio book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life and Death in The After House, December 5, 2014
This review is from: The After House (Paperback)
Another great addition to author Michael Phillip Cash's growing repertoire of horror genre books, The After House delivers a great ghost story, which artfully combines romance, self growth, intrigue and vivid glimpses of historical maritime Long Island, NY.

After dissolving a violent tumultuous relationship with her husband, central character Remy Galway looks to make a life for herself and her ten year old daughter Olivia. Somewhat insecure but determined, Remy and Olivia move into a 300 year old house which happens to be haunted by maritime Captain Eli Gaspar who died years before but remains in the home believing that it is still his ship. Initially upset with the invasion of his space Captain Gaspar initially tries to drive the mother and daughter out until he realizes that he really needs to protect them from other maleficent forces.

Although mild when it comes to ghostly frights, this is a well done ghost story that keeps the reader captive in its world where the supernatural and humanity co-exist. This is a tale brimming with supernatural adventure, rich history, tantalizing mystery, and budding romance. At times the story is emotion rending, always fascinating and overall very readable. I enjoyed reading The After House and do recommend this book as well as the author's other works as they are worthwhile horror reads.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Satisfying Sci Fi Thriller, November 12, 2014
Addressing (from a fictional standpoint), the long sought after truth about government corruption and the obscuring of possible alien contact, UFO sightings and alien integration into the human race Truth Insurrected: The Saint Mary Project by author Daniel P. Douglas transports readers with breakneck speed into the intense world of the science fiction /conspiracy thrillers.
A profoundly entertaining read, the book portrays the remarkable and confounding tale of Ex-FBI agent turned private detective, William Harrison. Harrison the story’s hero is a typical person; he is somewhat bored with his job and believes in the wholesomeness of a Democratic government.

However, Harrison’s life and beliefs begin to change radically after he witnesses a UFO, during a private investigation stakeout and later receives a mysterious postcard from an anonymous tipster Echo Tango containing an obscure message about a deceased conspiracy theorist. As Harrison begins to investigate, he soon finds himself deeply entangled in a machinated web of a government corruption, murder, lies, and cover-ups that center on UFOs and involves The Saint Mary Project. Purposed to hiding the truth about UFO encounters, abductions, technology, and hybridism, the covert Saint Mary Project conceals the facts from the public by any means necessary. As Harrison begins to investigate the pieces of the growing puzzle, he finds that nothing is as it seems, as startling truths and connections are revealed.

As a first time author, Daniel P. Douglas did a phenomenal job of bringing to fruition a sophisticated thriller fraught with startling science fiction elements, plot twists, and a deeply intriguing story that builds the reader’s anticipation with an enticing and intricately woven mystery, purposed with dynamic action, realism and grounded characters. Additionally, the way he presented the military aspect of the story was authentically engaging, giving a realistically authoritative air to the book as the inner workings of the military, and its operatives are revealed.

I really enjoyed The Saint Mary Project; it was a riveting read that kept me rapt from the first to the last page. As a true fan of the thrilling science fiction conspiracy genre, I found this to be a gripping read complete with the makings of a bestseller mystery, action, adventure and a budding romance. I particularly like the handling of the hybrid element, it is somewhat reminiscent of the X-Files TV show, presented in a manner that is just as exciting as watching an episode of the show. I look forward to more works by this author and I highly recommend this book for fans of science fiction it is a read well worth the effort.

Brood X: A Firsthand Account of the Great Cicada Invasion

5.0 out of 5 stars There is no brooding after reading Brood X, September 27, 2014
Brood X: A Firsthand Account of the Great Cicada Invasion by Michael Phillip Cash is a cleverly penned “nature gone wild “horror novel. Much in the tradition in other horror works in the same vein, like Slither by John Halkin, creatures usually regarded as relatively harmless become a destructive reckoning force that poses serious danger to human life by destroying all in their wake.

The story revolves around the awakening of a dangerously aggressive brood of Cicadas, Brood X. The expected awakening of the brood is forecast to be one of apocalyptic proportions and people are warned to be prepared If they are to survive.
Central characters Lara and Seth are young, married and going through the commonplace troubles that married couples face. Seth is a laid back easygoing jokester who does not take things very seriously. He is out of work with little success as he job-hunts, which causes stress in the relationship. Lara who is more grounded and mature finds out that she is pregnant; although she is happy, news of her pregnancy compounds the already existing marital stresses.

Meanwhile, several announcements on the news bring additional stressors when it is announced that Brood X is coming but what is worse is that Lara’s due date coincides with the dreaded arrival of Brood X. Lara fears the worst if they are caught unprepared while Seth jokes and procrastinates about necessary preparations, which places them in a precariously vulnerable positions as the time for the invasion, draws near.
I enjoyed Brood X, it was a greatly enjoyable read stocked with likable characters. The story was exceptional, intensely exciting, and refreshing to read which had me fully engaged from the first page. I particularly appreciated the fact that this was not one of the ordinary zombie apocalypse books that currently deluge the horror book market; instead, it was a nice but horrifying change. If you are a true fan of great horror then Brood X is a “must read”.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic Martial Arts Adventure., September 18, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A palatable fusion of Asian culture, greedy crime-lords, romance, and intense martial arts action, Tiger: Shaolin Darkness book 1 treats readers to an action packed read from the elusive genre of fiction-Martial Arts.

This intriguing book reads just like a Martial Arts movie, with plenty of action, seriously evil bad guys, and super-powered fight scenes. Featuring the premise of good vs. evil the story builds within a modern setting infused with plenty of rich Chinese history.
Author Lowe tells an engaging story by cleverly using narrative, dialogue, and action, which made this an engaging read featuring exciting scenes and realistic interaction between his interesting multi -dimensional characters. I especially liked central character Micah Keating, his somewhat awkward innocence made him a likable hero.

Before reading Tiger, I was unaware of the genre of Martial Arts fiction. I have always loved the intensity and action of Martial Arts movie, and until recently never had the opportunity to read any of the genre. However, after reading Tiger I have now become a fan. Thanks to author, Wesley Robert Lowe for writing a book that opened my mind to a completely new level of reading experience, which also turned out to be an exhilarating read, which I definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Demonic Vengeance!, September 18, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Demons of Chinatown, the excitingly demonic second book in the Spirits of Chinatown trilogy by renowned author Wesley Robert Lowe, once again, favorably combines the elements of the paranormal Chinese culture and beliefs within in an American setting. Author Lowe has done it again by creating yet another engagingly spooky horror read.

It is several months after Todd’s showdown with Jasmine, her family and friends. Jasmine’s father Liang is still unsatisfied with how things have progressed against Todd and still wants to make Todd pay for the death of his daughter by making his life a living hell. Todd attempting to move on with his life soon finds that once again spirits are at work trying to create shear havoc and torture in his life. This time however, they have extra special supernatural help, Wutong the thousand-year-old Shaman, who trained Liang in the supernatural art. He also employs the help of fit and sexy Vicky, the girl Todd jilted for Jasmine who becomes more than just an exactor of revenge. As their plan for vengeance forms, this time it seems it may work to fruition.

This was a well-done continuation of the series; author Lowe is a capable writer of horror fiction who knows how to keep the horrors interesting. I recommend this as a good read and look forward to more in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder, Ghosts, and Vengeance - Oh My!, September 18, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A spine tingling read, Ghosts of Chinatown by author Wesley Robert Lowe successfully merges the supernatural, history, and culture of China together into an intelligible paranormal thriller series, Spirits of Chinatown. Author Wesley Robert Lowe is an internationally known writer, composer, and filmmaker hailing from Vancouver, BC whose works are found on radio, TV, and film festivals.
Ghosts of Chinatown, which is the first book of the series, provides readers with a unique look at Chinese culture existing within American culture presented with a paranormal bent. The story is set in Vancouver, Canada in the historic Chinatown area, where lovers Jasmine and Todd are entwined with each other through life and unfortunately for Todd, through Jasmines premature death as well. Although Chinatown in Vancouver was once, an area swelling with life, it was through the ravages of time and a lack of caring that it became a place of hopelessness and dilapidation. Chinatown Essentially becomes a place where past and present converge and where the ghosts of Jasmine’s father Liang, and mother, and living step-sister and friend, work together to plot a grand plan of terrifying vengeance against Todd.
I really enjoyed this book, the writing is articulate, the characters are remarkable, and the story takes off with horrific intensity and continually builds a web of paranormal imbued mystery that kept me riveted to the book. I particularly enjoyed the way author Lowe infused aspects of Chinese history, culture and spiritual beliefs into the story, which helped to propel this book into a great horror, read. I recommend Ghosts of Chinatown as a distinctively eerie horror read and look forward to the next book in this great paranormal series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Life Altering, Satisfying and Informative Read, August 19, 2014
Already an expert at obtaining his desires from the universe, prominent author Michael Samuels graciously continues to share his in-depth knowledge about applying the law of attraction to have a fulfilled life through his newest work Keep Calm and Ask On. Author Samuels is also the author of not one but two other prominent self-help/ spirituality books; Just Ask the Universe and Univers-ity.

Based on the principles of the law of attraction which is currently a hot topic in the world of the spiritualism this work offers a comforting, earthy and often humorous look at the law of attraction and its application in life. Presented in a fascinating but short read that is succinctly informative and entirely relatable, Samuels primarily postulates that the universe will give you want you want as long as you ask your desires in a simplified but specific manner. He supports his theory by citing examples from his personal experiences. Author Samuels seems to have an expert grasp on the nature of the Law of Attraction and writes in an appealing, comradic tone, which made this a truly engaging read.

I enjoyed Keep Calm and Ask On and recommend it to others seeking to have a more satisfying life.
