5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Education on Maneuver Warfare and the Cold War, February 14, 2015
Team Yankee is one of those rare books that is fiction enough to be a fun, well enough written to be quick, and detailed and accurate enough to be educational. Highly recommended for those who lived the Cold War from home and all leaders who can expect to work with the Joint force at any level of war.

As an Airman, I'll even forgive the vague and inaccurate depiction of CAS as the spirit and result were spot on from a tanker's perspective!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best Animated Family Franchise, December 1, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Pixar continues to iterate on a winning formula with this sequel. It has all the fun of its predecessors and plenty of surprises. The cast is simplified to make room for an even more mature story, but the favorites who remain draw the viewer in with convincing jeopardy and rich personal arcs. Who thought it would be so easy to relate to a piece of plastic? Toy Story 3 combines the innocent joy of the original and the serious undertones of WALL•E, culminating in a profound finale. It's all you'd expect from Pixar and a must-see for everyone!

4.0 out of 5 stars Marvel Continues to Marry Action, Humor, and Awesome, December 1, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Iron Man 3 manages to be both very aware of The Avengers and prove that Marvel's character films can thrive post-mash-up. This film is the best yet, building character (including best to date use of Jarvis), justifying the absence of other supers, bringing a great plot (that fuses many concepts from the comics), more (amd more seamless) humor, and delivers it all with phenomenal action (autonomous suits are over the top, but made up for by stellar delivery of more Downey performance with out of suit and partial suit fights). A must for any Marvel or cinema fan!

This has worked out very well for my living room entertainment center. Setup took just a minute, the Wii and Kinect work fine, and the arrangement has needed no adjustment after months of use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great First Stylus, December 1, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Solid, affordable stylus. I use it on my iPad regularly for sketching and painting. The short length is occasionally noticeable in those applications, but for light use or just as an alternative to your pointer finger, they are perfect. Build quality is variable and the stylus is very light, but that's why you get three. A great deal for a casual or first stylus.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprising Character Development in So Much Action, December 1, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Any serious fan of the original will be able to stay one scene ahead and one act ahead of this whole movie, but that doesn't mean it's not awesome! Even the plot elements lifted from the original series are twisted and retold in ways that are a joy to see play out. There's even more fan service in the details than in Abrams' first adventure - including at least one nod to the ill-received Enterprise TV show. There's action at the expense of story and yet there's still a lot of character development for such an ensemble. A shame they'll never be as tight as Shatner's without weekly appearances. All Trek and action fans should take the time to see this.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Stories of the Year in Any Medium!, December 1, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Beautiful, fun, scary, and emotionally engaging. Best of all, the story is one worth playing for. In fact, I had three people begging to skip move nights in factor or just watching my first play through. Naughty Dog always drew me in with the Uncharted franchise, but this time they were truly unafraid to have human, not happy, endings.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Worthiest of Prequels!, December 1, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
John Carpenter's The Thing is an undisputed classic. Now it's a two volume classic. While the 1982 version had an obvious opening for a prequel, the bar for any attempt was high. Not only would it be hard to tell an equally compelling story, but keeping continuity with and maintaining loyalty to the first narrative would be a huge challenge. The first few scenes hinted at a too-modern "assemble your team" phase, but the cast quickly snuggled in for the more appropriate confinement of the trapped with the beast theme. I was also worried because the first half of the movie feels like a beat-for-beat pretreatment of the events of the Kurt Russell version, but at a pivotal scene the new protagonist comes up with a different solution to the problem of isolating the alien and from then on everything is fresh, exploring more backstory and frightening consequences of the creature's nature. Best of all, I can't think of a single loose thread in continuity. Everything seen in the Norwegian base in 1982 is explained (though occasionally in haste) in this film. The bottom line is that this prequel makes the original seem like a sequel. If only every reboot, remake, and follow up could fit so well, I'd be much happier at the box office! If you are a fan of the Carpenter classic or like adventure, horror, or sci-fi, go see this in the theater! BTW â" why are helicopter pilots always the most bad ass members of remote outpost staffs?

Perfect for office or field note-taking. Rugged, simple, and lays flat and open on a table. Only down side is serious smudging when erasing pencil, but that is a rare occurrence.

4.0 out of 5 stars A home appliances done right, March 3, 2013
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
When was the last time you heard anyone excited about a thermostat? When was the last time you ever heard anyone even talk about a thermostat unless it was broken? This sums up what is magical about the Nest product. It is simple enough, beautiful enough, and exciting enough to be worth mention. And that is very high praise for a thermostat.

Nest is very straight forward. Every bit of functionality you've ever had on a thermostat is available from two controls - a scroll wheel and a button. Combined with automatic or manual scheduling with a few clicks and this is an example of simplifying a device you never even questioned even though you take advantage of it every day.

The design is gorgeous - a simple brushed metal shell, a plain black bevel, and a bright screen with an easy to read interface. The interface is a worthy side-bar. The device always depicts actual data in numbers and words so data is quick to read, but also displays them visually, providing an intuitive understanding of relationships between current state and settings, for example. Bottom line: I cannot imagine a room this would not look good in.

Finally, it's exciting! Home automation is something many people dream about, but few people do because even in the dawn of the 21st century, it's complicated! Nest has created a device that is simple to install, requires no new wiring or complicated software or remotes, and instantly starts managing a part of your house intelligently.

Your thermostat may not be the first utility or appliance you would have brought with you into the future, but it's the first one anybody has gotten right!
