1.0 out of 5 stars A Rotten Juicer, January 23, 2006
This dreadful little machine is too small to juice a medium to large orange. It will juice a small Valencia, but not very effectively. I would love to have my money back or even 1/2 my money back.

Don't buy this "juicer."

5.0 out of 5 stars Barbara Still Magnificent, November 18, 2005
This review is from: Barbara Cook's Broadway (Audio CD)
Like Don, I attended Barbara Cook's concert November 12 at the Haugh Auditorium. We first became aware of her in the original cast of She Loves Me on Broadway almost 50 years ago. She sang like an angel then, and still does. I is hard to believe that a 78 year old could sing so beautifully. As she wanders around the stage, shuffling a bit, you realize she isn't a young woman, but to hear her you would think so. We've seen her in concert a lot of times on her visits to Southern California. The CD is a treasure for those who can't see her in person and a reminder for hose who have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Norrie Paramor-In London In Love, January 2, 2002
I loved this when it was first released as L.P.'s years ago. Norrie was one of the great arrangers and conductors. One thing that added to and still adds to the enjoyment of this CD is the use of the beautiful voice of Patricia Clark who floats into ones consciousness, usually singing the title phrase of the piece. She may not be heard again, or she may sing a little closing phrase. In some selections she doesn't sing words at all, but Norrie uses her voice like a musical instrument in his arrangements.
I hope the we will be lucky enough to have more of his old LP's restored to CD with the perfect technique we hear here. This is not "elevator music" but a group of wonderful songs from the best era of popular music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Immortal CD of an immortal artist, August 29, 2001
This review is from: Live in Australia (Audio CD)
For a moment, I hesitated to buy a single CD... I am so glad that I did! This CD is a joy from beginning to end. The music is beautifully played as one would expect. Selections from My Funny Valentine to Beethoven's Minuet in G show his versatility. However, the priceless part of this CD is the 12 "Interludes" between the 13 tracks of music. Larry comments on anecdotes about the selection, the composer and tosses in jokes, some quite blue, and tells of his long life and his problems with the McCarthy era. His meetings with Gershwin, Ellington, Holliday and others are charming and hilarious.
Get this wonderful CD, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood stirring, May 16, 2001
This review is from: Stone of Destiny (Audio CD)
If you have one drop of Scots blood in your veins and you can listen to the first track on this CD where Steve recites "Scots wha hae" without getting gooseflesh, then you should get medical help, because you are near death! A beautiful CD from beginning to end, IMHO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep that coffee hot, August 2, 2000
After 2 months of using this mug, I love it more every day. I make one huge cup of coffee with instant crystals in the preheated mug, and two hours later it is still hot enough to please me, and I like HOT not warm coffee.
Tops!

4.0 out of 5 stars Seafood Book is Great, December 28, 1999
This book is an excellent source of information for someone who loves fish and seafood and wants to prepare it someway other than deep fried or bathed in butter. Brody is somewhat of a cultist, but she likes food and she likes fish. Despite another review I read here, I did not find that she was cold and not interested in cooking or even better eating fish. I enjoyed reading the book and I have liked the several I have tried.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating and timely summary of a regional cuisine., May 2, 1999
This book is very timely since the Balkans are on every front page at this time. The author has done a great job of tracing the complex roots of Balkan cuisine and the complex roots of Balkan politics. The book is more than a set of recipes, although the recipes are exellent. It is a good read for anyone who is interested in the history of cooking and the history of a complicated region of the world.
