Cautionary Tales: Voices from the Edges
Cautionary Tales: Voices from the Edges

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, Literary Erotic Stories, April 9, 2016
Every once in a while, I stumble across a writer who seems to come from another time, a time before "Fifty Shades of Grey" and the endless stream of imitators that followed. Back to the days when strong, intelligent women with darkly-woven souls wrote thought-provoking, deep, and literary works of fiction.

Women like Sylvia Plath, Anais Nin, and Mary Shelley. The kind of women men feared and desired, repelled and attracted. Women who often wrote in secrecy, many of whom are still put down today by those who fear the power of their original voices screaming out into what remains largely a man's literary world. The kind of voice you cannot help but notice, penning prose that makes you shiver, think about your inner landscape and demons, and inspires writers to be better themselves.

“We are the voices in the shadows …”

Listen,
Listen with your eyes,
and your lips.

Listen with your skin
and your blood.

We’re here,
at the edges.

We are the shiver on your uneasy flesh,
The creep of the unknown on your skin.

Is your shadow on the wall,
really yours, after all?

I am loving the speed and ease of use. It's light and everything feels solid, but the best thing is how fast it is and how quiet and cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars I found this on and it's perfect. Snug, February 19, 2015

After ordering a few cases for my Acer laptop, only to find them way too small or flimsy, I found this on and it's perfect. Snug, but not too tight and well-padded for protection. The style is nice too and sets it apart from everything else I saw.

Way too big for someone with small ears like mine and no way to adjust or swap-out the hard and uncomfortable ear pieces. MIne arrived broken too, so would not buy again.

Good sound for an inexpensive pair. I like the fact that it comes with different sized ear pieces to fit even small ears like mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Writing, Original, May 29, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I adored the lovely writing. From the little things, like the way a kiss that almost happens is described, to the bigger, "under the iceberg" stuff that's hinted at, this is well written and intriguing. The preview doesn't even get into the major action and plot points the description talks about and I didn't care. I was already absorbed in this and wishing for more than a preview.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Prose and a Hint of Magic and Mystery, May 29, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This excerpt blew me away with its lyrical, almost poetic prose. What a set-up too . . . mysterious notes, strange job offers, creepy mansion and missing bits of memory. It all adds up to something I'd like to keep reading just for the sheer enjoyment of the writing (and to find out what's up with all the odd things the writer shares within the first pages). Really good stuff here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gone Girl-ish, May 16, 2014

Grabbed me from the first lines. Very strong voice, and good pacing without wasting a lot of time on things that didn't pull me right into the story. I wish the description hadn't given so much away about what's to come. The mystery of suicide and the dead woman's relationships were strong enough to keep me wanting to know more. The only issues I had were small (a few editing mishaps and dialog that could have been more natural), but overall I really liked this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, May 13, 2014

I really liked the voice of the main character. I gather he's English and from a modern time, though no time or place is given, yet there's a ring of the old-fashioned here that suits this fractured tale of a man who can't find sleep. The writer sets up some nice mysteries too, and I really did wish I could read more from this talented writer with a unique style. I only worry that it won't be able to keep up the promising pace it started off with (the description, while intriguing, causes concern that we'll get a series of weird, non-related events and no plot as we continue).

4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy Good, May 13, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The best thing here is the voice and tone of the main character. The writer gets it just right and delivers a mix of intelligent and crazy all at once that rings true and is compulsively readable in spots. The only issues I had were the bumpy pace (it starts off gangbusters, then starts to stall when it comes to plot and action) and the fear that the entire book would be a series of delusional imaginings and rants. These things made me leery of the author's ability to rein it all back in and get things moving again in a direction that would hold together.
