This review is from: For Love of Insects (Hardcover)
Utterly fascinating. Eisner's chemistry perspective makes this book particularly enjoyable. The photographs are great. But even better is that this book is packed with information communicated by a man who writes with flair. (He may love language as much as he loves insects.)

It was time to replace our cassette of this album with a CD. These songs have kept us happy through so many road trips and quiet afternoons. Greg Brown is a poet of such wit and insight and his music is warm and full of humanity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Humorous and beautiful (both the words and the pictures), November 19, 2013

We originally found this book at a sidewalk sale when our daughter was about one. She loved the illustrations, and created a game for himself of finding all the bicycles in each illustration. The poem is beautifully readable (it scans so well!) and the story is sweet and gentle and funny. The illustrations are delightful. I buy new copies of this book to keep in my gift closet to give to little kids. It's always a hit.

Greenbo GPR01 Designer Rail and Deck Planter, Black
Greenbo GPR01 Designer Rail and Deck Planter, Black

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent solution to having flowers outside your window, November 19, 2013

These planters are perfect for balcony and deck railings. I'd give them 5 stars but one of the drip trays on one of the 2 planters I bought does not stay on very well. The planters are on a 2nd floor Juliet balcony and I've had to go downstairs to retrieve that tray from the bushes a few times. But the idea of these planters is brilliant.

Kenny Barron's music is wonderful and this particular CD proves it again. Sometimes soothing, sometimes provocative, sometimes challenging, always great listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Witty page-turner that also reveals how musicians think about music, November 18, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I loved this book. I took it on vacation to the mountains, and almost missed seeing the mountains. It's a page turner, with a lovable central character who meets many interesting people on the way to finding a solution to the mystery. There's some magical realism, heaps of wit, and a delight in language and word games that kept me amused and engaged and laughing. The best thing about the book, though, and one you won't find anywhere else, are the insights into the mind of a musician. Anyone who loves music, who loves New York, or who loves a good story, will enjoy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast shipment, item as described, TERRIFIC tapes, January 5, 2011

The AMR system of language instruction is excellent. It uses stereo so that one channel is English and the other is the foreign language, and you can turn off either one and just listen to the other. This is a brilliant idea.. I also like the AMR tapes because right from the start the dialogues consist of real vocabulary and phrases real people use. In the advanced French, for example, you learn the words for dealing with a flat tire, a traffic stop, sun burns at the beach, and a shopping trip for clothes, including how to ask where the sale rack and the fitting room are. I just wish someone would put all the AMR tapes on CDs or MP3. I don't know why the AMR foreign language tapes never took the world by storm, but they should have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Resource, January 7, 2008

This book is a terrific resource for people who like to walk and find themselves in the Bay Area. I found the book because it is mentioned on Jane Huber's wonderful website ([...] I bought the book out of gratitude, but I should have bought it out of pure self-interest. Having an actual book to page through, WITHOUT being hooked up to a computer, is a joy, and I rediscovered the simple truth that cross-referenced lists on paper (and a good table of contents and index) can be superior to links on the screen. With the book, it is a snap to compare hikes by location and difficulty at an information-packed glance. Huber organizes the book so that every question I can think of is answered, easily, clearly, helpfully. Hats off!
