5.0 out of 5 stars An American Hero, December 3, 2004
Sonny Barger is one of my heroes, not because of what he believes, but rather because he believes. This book portrays a deeply principled man. We may not hold the same principles, but his aren't that different from ours. The important thing is that the man reflected in these pages holds principles, which is more than many people leading less colorful lives can say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps the magic while demystifying the mystery, December 3, 2004
This book tells a story that needs telling, uncovering an era in modern music surrounded in mythology and rumor. From the first essay about the Zimmerman brothers' trip to the fateful Altemont Speedway concert in 1969 to the concluding essay about the demise of the music industry, this compelling book uncovers an unexplored segment of American music.

5.0 out of 5 stars About a movement more than about the music, December 3, 2004
The reviewer who compared the Sex Pistols to the Clash missed the entire point of the Sex Pistols. I love the Clash as much as anyone, and I listen to "London Calling" more often than "Never Mind the Bollocks." The Clash were undoubtedly a greater band.

But the Sex Pistols were not just a band--they were a literary movement. John Lydon created a new aesthetic that people have not yet begun to understand, one that will be as important as modernism, the beat movement, and the post modernism. The modernists were about post-industrial disillusion, the beats about freedom, and the post-modernists about chaos. All three movements were created by artists who took themselves too seriously. The punks were about recognizing the ridiculous nature of the human condition and not taking yourself too seriously. Lydon embodies this punk aesthetic better than any other figure. The message he embodies, one this brilliant book cpatures perfectly, is one that a person hung up on "who was the better band" should heed: get over yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different side of the biker scene, December 3, 2004
This review is from: Soul on Bikes (Hardcover)
I've ridden with black bikers for over 30 years, but until I attended the Roundup a few years back I had no idea about the whole club culture in the black biker world. It's the most exciting, vibrant scene in all of motorcycling. These cats are cool. And Tobie Gene is the coolest of them all. He's also a great writer. Combine a great writer with a great story about a great part of American culture, you get a great book. If you don't read any other book this year, you should read this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting for even an old dude, December 3, 2004
I used to road race motorcycles and I have developed a deep respect for Suzuki's GSX-R series. This book treats the subject with the same respect. I am too old to ride bikes like this on the street, but I could see buying one as a track-day toy someday. Great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy...!, December 3, 2004
This review is from: Streetbike Extreme (Paperback)
This book is unbelievable. How these people can do these stunts is beyond belief! They defy all laws of physics (and as the book points out, most laws of man). I have hoisted a few wheelies in my day, but never nothing like this! Way to go, Mike Seate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best chopper book yet, December 3, 2004
This review is from: Choppers (Hardcover)
This is the only real history of choppers available, but even if it wasn't, it would still be the best. Excellent writing, excellent photography, and a cool design make this one of my all-time favorite books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A chopper builder gives it a thumbs up, December 3, 2004
I've built choppers from scratch, and I've built a chopper kit bike. Both projects would have been much more successful had I had a book like this. This is a useful book whether you are building a kit bike from Jesse James or if you are building any other kit, or even if you are building a chopper from scratch. there is tons of useful information here, and the photos show you how not to make a lot of the mistakes I made.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great little book, December 3, 2004
This book tells the story of a lot of up and coming chopper builders, with lots of cool chopper photos. It is very well written and enjoyable. It was a light read, but well worth the low price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bizzare reviews of a great book, December 3, 2004
I just discovered the "write a review" feature on Amazon and have been going through reviews of books I've read in the past year. The reviews of this book are completely mental. It is a great book. If anything, it makes Jesse look too good. I was hoping for a bit more dirt about his marriages and divorces and other stuff. But it is still very interesting, with great photography. For the life of me I can't figure out why Jesse hates it so much.
