The Art of Knitting
The Art of Knitting

3.0 out of 5 stars Some good material., September 26, 2014

This review is from: The Art of Knitting (DVD)
This DVD has some good tips, but it's very hard to find a particular topic as you cannot just click on a certain chapter, but have to go through the whole thing. It also contains two totally worthless sections: one on knitting or crocheting bikinis, and one on making wire jewelry. It' s okay for what I paid (very little) but due to the fact that I can't look up specific chapters, I haven't even had the time to watch it all the way through.

I was hoping this clock would replace a Sharper Image one I'd had for years and recently lost while traveling as well as a bulkier sound effects machine. I am blind without my glasses and the beauty of the Sharper Image clock, besides the music was that by hitting a bar it would announce the time, thus saving me from fumbling around for my glasses.

This clock was very attractive and had nice sounds, but the display was too small to see without glasses and the alarm was barely audible. Also, the alarm only played for a very short time and would have easily been slept through. It's a nice toy to use for relaxation, but totally useless as an alarm clock. Also it was extremely complicated to set and I would have to take the instructions out every time I wanted to change something. I sent it back.

3.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Lifting Could Cause Injury., September 8, 2012

I can't offer an opinion as to the merits of this book compared to other LPN texts for content, but physically it's so heavy I had to buy a special knapsack with wheels to carry it around. Also, the type size is really tiny (less than 10 pt. I would estimate) which makes it very difficult to read. Possibly if I held it at a different angle I could see it better (I wear progressive glasses), but to do so for sustained amounts of time would cause nerve damage to my wrists.

Given that it's close to 2,000 pages, I can see why they had to make the type so small and the paper so thin-care must be taken when turning the pages. A large print edition would probably come in at 4,000 pages and 50 lbs., but could they not have broken it up into two volumes? I will now begin the search for a magnifying glass. Seriously. this book is bad for your health.

2.0 out of 5 stars Arab Gulf States-used travel guide, August 28, 2011

I think it's madness to pay full price for a new travel guide, but the used ones don't specify publication date. This one was published in 1996 and so, much of the information is useless.

Also, in true Lonely Planet style, the typeface is so tiny, it requires a magnifying glass to see.
Generally, the book was very dry and humorless and not very interesting or helpful. A lot of this might come from the fact that many of the Gulf States really are NOT tourist material, but unless you actually see a new book (in a real bookstore) first, I wouldn't order a used guide again, unless you can ascertain the publication date.

The maps are good, but this book covers too large an area to do justice to any one country. Also, all of the lodging/eating information is of the hostel, flophouse kind. Not a suitable book for anyone over 21 travelling without a backpack.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book you can keep for it's photos alone., November 22, 2010

This series has the best cultural information and maps. The practical information covered in other guides such as Lonely Planet is not included which means you may have to carry two books. There are some recommendations, but they are at the high end. Still, if I had to take only one book, this would be it. Frequently, the hotels recommended in other books are awful anyway, so find another source for those. Also, can never follow the directions to restaurants, etc. in those other books. Directions in this book are clear and they have interesting tidbits about the country, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite movies., September 22, 2010

This review is from: 30 Days of Night (DVD)
I think this is not just a great horror movie, but a great movie period. Stylistically, it very much resembles a graphic novel or comic book. It's also one of the scariest movies I've ever seen and has elements of tragedy and pathos. The story line is believable and the setting perfect. The acting for a horror movie is also good. Okay, so it's a vampire movie, but one with a novel concept. Don't watch it alone or too close to bedtime!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good choice to begin your research with, September 22, 2010

I think this book is an excellent beginning point if you are considering having surgery done abroad. The author had dental work done abroad and so, can speak from personal experience. It is well written and has a lot of information that you can use to do a more detailed search with. It is realistic and for the price paid the best choice out of the books Amazon had available on the topic.
