3.0 out of 5 stars These look great. But the toebox is WAY too tight, March 17, 2016

These look great.

But the toebox is WAY too tight. Working on fixing that now.

That's a two-star deduction, because it's ridiculous how great the contrast is between the heel, sole, and toe area width.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waterproof? More like watertight... DO NOT BUY, August 1, 2015
Bought this at the Verizon store when I got my Galaxy S5 figuring I was getting hosed on the price, but feeling it was worth it if they pointed me to the best case I could get.

Not only was the screen cover flimsy plastic, but it had a warped/bubbled appearance making the view anything less than clear. "Small price to pay for the protection," I figured.

But when I needed it to actually meet its core claim- that it's waterproof- it failed. Miserably.

After being in no more than 3 feet of water, the case emerged FULL of water- like it was designed to HOLD water, not keep water out.

Turns out that the charger access, though securely shut, had lost its silicone seal.

And, like many others, I was one of those who got the 'ol, "Did you register it?" answer when I returned to the Verizon store.

Literally 2.5+ hours in that place when I purchased with my new phone, providing billing info, filling out forms, answering questions, providing security answers, 3.5 feet long receipts, an arm full of boxes...

and NO mention of registering the thing afterwards.

Frankly, if Verizon gave a ---- about their customers, this kind of thing should be a one-click at the store. For the margins they have, it's inexcusable.

Only now am I seeing the many Lifeproof reviews, telling me what I've learned the hard way.

I knew better, I know better, and there won't be a next time- with either Lifeproof or Verizon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Where was this in 2004?, April 21, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Sevreal years ago, I was working on an offline-to-online-to-offline campaign. I thought, "Why can't the online user experience be more like a CONVERSATION?"

I sought the help of several online marketing "experts."

Useless.

Later, I came across the work of Dr. Glenn Livingston. He had the answer, but I was neither bright enough, nor diligent enough, to pull it off.

Finally, this book bridges that gap. The core method drives "interaction," encourages introspection in the customer, and serves up valuable intel in the process.

Simple? More or less.
Easy? Could be.

But it will take some effort.

For the smart entrepreneur, that's a GOOD thing, as it's the most reliable barrier to easy competition.

Take advantage while you can.

The first half of the book explains the genesis and development of the core idea. Not a bad read, but could have been shorter.

"Get to the point" readers might miss a thing or two by diving directly into the second half. So you might want to plow through it before getting to the "how to" steps in the second half.

A solid 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop "Storytelling" and Do This Instead, January 18, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
"Storytelling" is all the rage these days.

Yet, most people suck at it.

Even after they've thought about it, studied it, and worked at it.

Good news is, you don't have to be good, or "get good," at storytelling if you follow Ian's method.

I also liked his section on transitions, as many writers are quite clumsy in this area. It's always nice to have a few more ways to turn the corner and get to the point.

1.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the world of disposable electronics!, December 3, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
You know what it's like- you're down to your last percentage or two, desperately in need of some power.

You reach for your charger, plug it into the device and...

NOTHING.

Is it not plugged in? Is the connector all the way into the device? Is the OUTLET dead?!?

No.

The charger's dead.

While this did charge a bit faster than the factory original chargers, it died after just 8 months.

No damage, no abuse, no dropping it on the floor, driveway, or into the toilet.

Just one day, it inexplicably... died.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's one of the best books on the ART of writing good sales copy ..., November 15, 2014
This is the kind of book that can take your writing to the next level.

It's one of the best books on the ART of writing good sales copy that I've ever read.

Everybody talks about Caples, Schwab, Kennedy, etc. Great, basic copy books. This goes a few levels deeper.

If you've ever written a great headline, and then felt clumsy with that first line, of if you feel like everything you're writing opens one of just 5 or 6 ways, the discussion on persona, the lengthy list (and discussion) of openers was priceless.

I'm really puzzled by some of the negative reviews here.

I liked his tone. A man of his ability and experience must be driven to drink with the copy he sees on a daily basis.

As far as the criticism of the examples, were we reading the same book?

He gave PLENTY of good examples: the AMEX letter, Bottom Line, Catfancy, US Historical Society, Shutterbug, America's Civil War, Day-Timers, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Leaflets for Less, Tony Robbins.

What more do you want?

If you need more "good examples," go to your swipe files.

And if you think he was overly negative or critical in his commentary, you should check with your own readers. He was giving voice to what they're thinking. If you write your copy as if you had to sell to HIM, your results would improve.

5.0 out of 5 stars No begging, no badgering, July 12, 2014
Steve takes the "ick" factor out of asking for referrals, and removes client discomfort, too.

Most "formulas" for increasing referrals boil down to "Just ask, and keep asking," or "Be a nice person, and use this magic script." Which is why most business owners don't ask for referrals, or do so in an uncomfortably ham-handed fashion.

What I like about Steve's approach, as he's cut through the clutter to help business owners get CLARITY on who they really want to be referred, with a simple, elegant system for doing so. And once you've followed the steps, you have a repeatable, scalable SYSTEM for generating referrals on a consistent basis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back in the saddle, March 8, 2013

I've been buying Kennedy's books since the mid/late-90's.

His early stuff was extraordinary- hard-hitting, practical and to-the-point.

Some of Dan's more recent books had been a bit on the weak side,
particularly those that featured umpteen co-authors.

This one reminds me of the "Classic (not Steely) Dan."

He gets straight to the heart of the matter,
and if you don't have the trust issue under control,
NOTHING else is going to work as well as it should.

He expands quite a bit on some of these topics
in some of the sales-based offerings on his website,
but thankfully, this book felt less like a pitch-fest than some of his others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets the job done, March 8, 2013

I'm on the phone A LOT. And on days I'm using the phone, I usually go through one portable battery life.

The in-line mute button is ESSENTIAL for coughs, sneezes, interruptions,
or cursing in response to something the person on the other end of the line says!

Plus, it's much easier to find than scrambling for the one on the phone.

The volume control is also a plus, as it works in addition to the volume on the phone itself.

CAVEAT: if you are moving around a lot while on the phone, you will find that the cord catches on just about anything available: desk corners, zippers, buttons, door handles, door jambs, you name it.

Sometimes this yanks the earpiece off, other times the phone goes flying, other times, the earpiece pulls apart or the cord gets damaged. This recurrent problem has ruined more than one of these for me.

SOLUTION: Get TWO clips for the cord, not just one. Clip the first one close to your collar, test by turning your head both ways to ensure you have enough slack. Take out all the slack and clip the second near your belt line. Plug the connector into your phone and tie up the slack with the twist tie from the original packaging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior to Books AND Online Thesauri, February 9, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Synonym Finder (Paperback)
If you care about PRECISION in your communication, The Synonym Finder is indispensible.

Here's why...

Page count: Synonym Finder 1371, Roget's Thesaurus 572

They're not even in the same weight class.

And why is Synonym Finder is superior to online searching?

Let me give you an example.

I was looking for an alternative to the word "competitor."

But I was also exploring the IDEA of competition in the piece I was working on.

Roget gave me only "compete." Good grief man, give me something to work with!

Synonym Finder gave me:

* compete
* competition
* competitive
* competitor

They're all lined up, one after the other, in close proximity,
allowing me to scan back and forth between them to find the
PERFECT way to express the thought AND the feeling I was trying to convey.

THAT is the kind of precision that lends power to the copy I write.

Not everybody needs that kind of attention to detail,
but it's good to know that when I need it,
Synonym Finder is right there next to me.

And, there is VALUE in having all the words in front of me at once.

Could I have gotten all of these derivatives by searching online?
Yes.

And could I have typed in ALL FOUR words into separate windows
and cascaded or tiled them so they were all visible at the same time?
Well, yeah, but how much screen real estate do you have?

But it's SO much easier to have them in print together, organized,
and easy to rove from one to the others instantly.

But here's what I feel is the most important reason to use a BOOK,
as opposed to a computer screen:

Typically, I'm writing on a computer or laptop. It's how I learned to
write- on the old Apple IIe...

you're looking at a SCREEN.

and when you're trying to get clear on a line or a word or a way of
expressing idea, or you're struggling with the BEST way to communicate
with your reader...

you're looking at a SCREEN.

Just the mere physical act of looking away from that SCREEN,
opening the book, changing your focus, finding the page and
seeing a different font style can interrupt your pattern,
and open up your mind to a whole new way of seeing and
thinking about the subject.

It's not just about the words, it's also about the state change.

It's a 10-second exercise that gets you OUT of the problem and
INTO the solution.

The real power is the combination of the two working together,
hand in hand.

Not everyone needs this level of fanaticism, but there's an unmistakable
difference between the "talking at them" style of copy that's so
prevalent today, and communicating with your reader in a way that
tells them that you know them you understand them, and you care
about them in a way that nobody else in your market does.

The Synonym Finder can help you get there faster than you would
any other way.
