5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly great game, worth buying, April 19, 2014

This review is from: Magic 2014 (App)
Probably the best fantasy role playing card game available for a tablet. I've played Hearthstone and don't find it nearly as fun or as easy to pick up and play. Magic 2014 has a full tutorial system that walks you through the basics over the course of five duels, and I found that extremely helpful. The deck crafting system doesn't have a tutorial, but it does provide simple visual aids for evaluating aspects of your deck, such as mana cost, how many lands you have (and how many you might need), as well as a scale from "weak" to "awesome" that updates as you build your deck. Another thing I like about it is that there is a storyline to follow; it's not just dueling or completing random "Defeat five opponents" quests for gold.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, April 16, 2014

This was an interesting account of a time when our health was protected by the slimmest of warning labels: buyer beware. The FDA and AMA had little authority to defend the public from medical quacks, and men like John Brinkley could become millionaires peddling dangerous goat testicle"transplant" procedures on men. You may think this is a story from another era, entertaining but irrelevant to our age, but any listener of XM radio will tell you, male potency "cures" and prostate remedies, as well as pills that supposedly boost female libido, remain big business for modern-day J.R. Brinkley. Quack doctors may no longer be able to cut open a man's scrotum and place a goat's ball inside it, without fear of a lawsuit, but as long as no one dies from our "low testosterone" nostrums, it's the gold rush days for the snake oil salesmen of the 21st century.

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring, April 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The author tries to make her subject interesting with a comedic tone and the rare salacious anecdote, but ultimately this book is about wiping down your cabinets and what type of cleaner to use (spoiler alert: it's almost always ammonia or vinegar and water). I wanted to like this book, but ultimately could not maintain interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best white noise app, April 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought it mainly because the free version does not allow background play. I have an alarm clock app I like to use with the white noise in the background. The premium version has a large variety of sounds to mix and match, and the tonal sounds are great if you just want a soothing, steady tone to lull you to sleep. This app is definitely worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good sound combo, March 20, 2014

Plenty of soothing sounds in this free collection. The only drawback is that the app has to be open for it to work; you can't start the app and then, say, bring up your digital alarm clock app while the sounds continue to play. They will stop playing if you switch apps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Penis Book Ever, March 20, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book was much longer than I expected, with meaty chapters on the history of man (and woman's) relationship with his member. The historical bits were probably most interesting. Overall, it's well worth reading, not at all the flaccid experience one sometimes gets from authors attempting to write a book of popular science about a provocative subject.

A simple calendar-based book of anecdotes and literary references, some well-known and some obscure, this book is an excellent way to begin your day over coffee.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, November 13, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I wasn't expecting much when I bought this little penny dreadful, and it lived up to my expectations. The real hand to forehead moment came when the author cited Eugene McCarthy as responsible for the Red Scare of the early 1950's. She even used a picture of Eugene McCarthy instead of Joe McCarthy. I've never encountered a mistake like that in all my years of reading. All in all, if you want to know more about this notorious murderer, you're better off reading Wikipedia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Denim perfect, September 23, 2013

This case has the ruggedness of a pair of blue jeans on the outside, and the warmth of an orange, quilted jacket on the inside. It fits my MacBook Pro 15" with retina display perfectly. There really isn't any room for anything else, although the outer pocket could hold a few flat items like a checkbook or wallet, papers, spiral notebook, etc. For my work, I travel often and don't especially need access to my laptop while en route, so I put my laptop in my luggage rather than my shoulder bag. This case protects it perfectly while it jostles around in my suitcase. Note that as I said in the first sentence, the interior is blaze orange. This is not noted in the product description, but it's a color that I find works well with the dark blue and brown leather of the outer case.

Vikings Season 1

5.0 out of 5 stars Action, drama, and oh yeah, history, April 21, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This series does a great job of combining these three elements into an entertaining series. For those who love action, there are Braveheart-like battles and two-man combat reminiscent of Gladiator. There is conflict and drama between the main character, Ragnar, and Gabrielle Byrne's Eorl Haraldson. And finally, there is history. You will see Viking customs such as how they prepare to leave for a raid by washing their faces in a bowl of communal water (into which they have also cleared their sinuses). You'll see how their ships were built, and how they navigated the dangerous seas in those ships. You'll also experience what life must have been like in the English towns they raided. Finally, you'll see plenty of brawny men killing each other with axes. It's a great series, well worth watching, and since it has been renewed for a second season, there will be plenty more to watch next year.
