3.0 out of 5 stars In my minds eye...., June 5, 2013

I can see all the glamor and fun the privileged citizens of Charles Lindbergh's time had. However, this rendition of life through the eyes of Anne, his wife, is "trite". Perhaps, the fact that she was the victim of the times and of "labels", given to her, first by her father, and then by her husband, dooms her from the start. The narration is simple, without second and third level sub stories, and follows a rather linear progression of the life of Charles and his wife. While I was at times exceedingly annoyed reading about the compliant attitude Anne displayed, I have no doubt, she would have had a more fulfilling life had she stepped out of the shadow of her controlling husband. What makes this book interesting is the story behind the public figures. There are interesting developments later on in the book that made me glad I finished reading it. I was left with a less than stellar impression of the man that Charles was, and Anne does deserve some credit for completing significant achievements, both personally and professionally in the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mountain tops to city landscapes...., November 14, 2012

A simple story about life in another time. Somewhat " sappy", but beautifully written with images of the Italian Alps and life in the mountains. Transition to New York City and you easily get caught up in the hustle of an emerging city, full of immigrant life and theatrical drama. This is the book for you to read if you enjoy an uncomplicated story, that is easy to follow, and want to escape today's realities.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better read in hard copy, September 27, 2012

With a substantial number of pages devoted to the fights and battles of the Civil War , the strategy and map illustrations were hard to view on my kindle. Still an engaging read, but buy the hard copy for a more thorough understanding of this portion of history. The subsequent chapters regarding the conspiracy plan moved quickly and kept me engaged in numerous details that I previously did not know about.
