5.0 out of 5 stars Denzel is Commanding, February 15, 2015
Going out of the theater, a comment we had, and we heard others say the same, was that "Denzel didn't disappoint". It's another commanding performance of his. Some of his films have strayed into mediocrity, but this gets it back on course. No, not his greatest performance, but a good one. Maybe on par with "Training Day", but from a positive viewpoint, where the "good" guy wins.

4.0 out of 5 stars Less-Played, But Not Bad, February 15, 2015
This review is from: Meddle (Audio CD)
A less-played album. Still, can't quite give it 5 stars. It's not on the level of "Dark Side of the Moon", "The Wall", or "Wish You Were Here". I wouldn't go so far as to say that it should be in the library of every Pink Floyd fan. It just going by songs, certainly pick up "One of These Days". A couple of the other songs aren't as polished and/or not typical Pink Floyd (old or new).

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Than the First Book, February 14, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book strikes me better than the first book. The first book was shallow and some of the good concepts seemed to be too much of a copy of Tolkien. This one goes a little bit deeper and, fortunately, has fewer irritating diversions. Like the first book, it's style makes for easy reading, although it's a long book. It's still mostly sequential, so that's a benefit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Has That Radiohead Feel, February 14, 2015
Some have said it's "artsy". I guess I'd agree. But, not overly so. For Radioheads, it's a must-see. Not any startlingly new scenes or info, just behind-the-scenes stuff that's good to know. A couple of the comments are rather insightful. Many of the comments/interviews are hard to distinguish from the background (may vary with sound systems, of course). It's fairly quick moving and has a Radiohead feel to it, at least for me. Give it a try.

4.0 out of 5 stars Change is coming. It has to. What will ..., January 25, 2015
This review is from: Ivory Tower (Amazon Instant Video)
Change is coming. It has to. What will it be? Hard to tell. Unfortunately, this documentary doesn't provide solutions to the overwhelming issues.

It does point out some serious issues (e.g., student debt is immune to bankruptcy) but doesn't detail them well enough to make it clear to someone who isn't already aware of them.

The film does provide some support in that many, many other people are having the same issues. Both as students and parents.

It provides different viewpoints about causes and directions, which is helpful, whether one agrees with them or not.

It also points out some alternative routes that might not have been considered, so that alone makes it worth watching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic, January 23, 2015

Great to have all in one place. Even better is having both versions. Some of the enhancements are improvements, some are not but even those aren't terrible. And it's only a click away to the original version.

The menu navigation is a little cumbersome, but OK after a while.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Flick, January 17, 2015
Fortunately, this wasn't too predictable. Hopefully you haven't had spoilers before watching it.

Cruise does a decent job acting, reminiscent of some of his better acting bits, but not his best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Always Dangerous Territory, January 17, 2015
This review is from: History of the Eagles (DVD)
Excellent historical video. It's always dangerous to learn more about artists -- it can color your appreciation of their work. That's one reason I often avoid such works, but sometimes I can't stop myself.

This covers a lot of territory and touches on some hot issues, without being overbearing. It covers multiple viewpoints, which is refreshing.

It's cool seeing some of the equipment used. I'd heard that about this video and that's what originally got me interested in it.

Overall, I'm glad I watched it.

I really like these. I was first introduced to them in college and still like them many years later. They're great for sharing. A good, refreshing taste without being overwhelming. And they take a while to dissolve, so you can enjoy them for a good length of time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Tedious, January 17, 2015
Somewhat tedious, but watchable. If you like watch a (too) long movie where everyone sits around, not talking, with constant smug looks of I-know-something-you-don't-know, it might garner a better rating. With the plot, it easily could have been done in one-third the time. It grates on me like when actors over emphasize foreign accents because it appears more cool. I stopped about 20 minutes into it the first time, but forced myself to watch the whole thing the second time through.
