4.0 out of 5 stars The Michelle McBride and Frank Stallone version finally on a DVD, February 15, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Believe it or not I bought this 2-disc set because of the 1990 version starring Michelle McBride and Frank Stallone. It is one cheesy SBIG horror movie and finally it's out on DVD!

The original Vincent Price version is a "serious" adaptation of Poe's novel. You can't go wrong with it.

The Michelle McBride and Frank Stallone version has nothing to do with the novel. It's about an old guy throwing a party with Poe's novel as the theme. One of the guests is masked as the red death and starts killing the other guests one by one. It's kind of a whodunit movie with some gruesome and original murders. The movie could have inspired Wes Craven's "Scream". Expect some very cheesy acting and dialogue and you will enjoy it for sure.

About the 2-disc set:

* Solid keep case (not those trashy thin ones) with one disc on the left and the other on the right side (when you open it)
* Both discs have the image from the cover printed on them with a glossy look
* Vincent Price version in widescreen and nice image/audio
* Michelle McBride and Frank Stallone version in fulllscreen and nice image/audio (not a VHS transfer)
* No extras on any of the discs (just a "menu-screen" with the button "play movie")

5.0 out of 5 stars Karate as it was ment to be, November 21, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is said to be the auto-biography of master Gichin Funakoshi. In his book Funakoshi describes how he was introduced to karate, how he had to sneak to his master, because Karate was forbidden by the Government. He tells short stories that happened to him (like: being attacked by thieves) and how useful Karate turned out to be through his life.

As the title says, Funakoshi's idea was that Karate trains your body and mind and is thus a way of life. Karate in his opinion is not about fighting. At the back of the book he even points out that winning 100 of 100 battles is not as praiseworthy as subduing an enemy without fighting. Karate is not fighting, it is a martial art. It is not about being strong and though against others, but against oneself.

If you believe that Karate is a fighting sport. If you believe that the tournaments and winning is all what this art is about, by all means avoid this book, for you will not understand its message. If however you are really open-minded and understand what I wrote above, you are up for an interesting read. And I believe that every Karateka should be interested in the origin of the art. That is what you will find here.

No techniques, fighting guidelines and things like this. Just the interesting stories of a gentle and reasonable Taoist that Funakoshi was.

This plush toy is very cute. The smile and the eyes of the Leprechaun are gorgeous.

It was manufactured in China. I could only find a small error on it, as the buckle on the hat is not on the middle of the black broach.

The bum of the Leprechaun is filled with beans. Overall the quality is really good. I can't think of anybody who wouldn't love it.

This review is from: House II: The Second Story (DVD)
House 2 is a great movie, but I don't want to write anything about the movie here since you can find information on it all over the internet. I'll focus on the particular DVD.

+ Quality is fine
+ Picture is sharp (almost no noise)
+ Correct/original aspect ratio and uncut movie

- Audio is only Mono
- Few extras (only a trailer)
