Your Go-To Guide to Creating Ridiculously Good Content
Your Go-To Guide to Creating Ridiculously Good Content
by Lewis N. Le
Edition: Paperback

1.0 out of 5 stars RIPOFF: this is NOT the book you think it is., December 15, 2014
Do NOT buy this. The entire body of the "book" comes from an 2011 e-book from the Content Marketing Academy, and the title is blatantly ripped off from Ann Handley's "Everybody Writes" book.

Do NOT be fooled into buying this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic book for everyone who writes...so, everyone!, September 9, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Writing is like breathing: everyone has to do it. I've followed Ann's work for years (even before working with her at MarketingProfs), and used her previous book, Content Rules, as a textbook in my graduate class covering New Media Marketing. Her writing style is informative, irreverent and fun, and every piece of hers I've read over the years has taught me something.

If the idea of writing intimidates you, this book will set you at ease. Ann offers encouragement, along with a detailed, helpful explanation of the writing (and editing) process.

This is not a grammar book. To be sure, there are helpful tidbits and guidelines for writing, and the book necessarily covers certain elemental rules, but the advice Ann offers goes well beyond syntax, and arises out of her own extensive experience crafting brilliant, engaging stories.

Get this book. You will find it beneficial, as well as highly entertaining.

2.0 out of 5 stars Audio quiet, mute button loud., September 9, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this to use when doing webinars that require speakers to call in through a conferencing line. Unfortunately, every time I had to mute my audio, the button made a loud clicking sound. Very disruptive! The audio itself was quiet, and there was a noticeable noise underneath.

Can't recommend this for professional use.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read Guide for Marketers on Creating Brand Ambassadors, August 25, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Fantastic book on connecting with your most loyal customers, and empowering them as brand advocates. Mack bases lessons on the way rock stars grow their fan base by interacting and engaging with their fans in a genuine way.

I've adopted this book as a text for my graduate class in New Media Marketing. My students range from solopreneurs to employees at large companies (and every type of organization in between): they can all apply Mack's methods and achieve success by cultivating relationships with supporters and turning them into passionate fans.

Where this book really excels is that there's chapter after chapter of actionable advice for doing this at your own company. There are plenty of books that tell you why connecting with customers is important (and many even have case studies), but none do as thorough a job of equipping you to implement this approach yourself. In "Think Like A Rock Star," Mack's provided a guidebook for building a fan-centric company from the inside out.

Buy it, read it, and keep it handy: you'll need to refer back to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful tips and practical insights for people and businesses interested in blogging, March 21, 2013
I have come to expect top quality content from Mark Schaefer, and he's never let me down. This collaboration with Stanford Smith has simple, actionable tips that you can put into practice immediately to get yourself blogging. It explains how blog readers differ from readers in other contexts, and details what you need to do to appeal to this busy, discerning audience. The book even includes a quiz that will help you to identify which type of blogger you are based on your skill set. You might find you fall under multiple categories, if you're versatile, but it's helpful to get a sense of where your strengths lie, so you can jump right into blogging.

There's a great section on "Why Your Business Should Blog," which might be of particular interest to business people who are on the fence about it (or the marketing people who work under them), but the book provides much more than the basics. The authors detail a plan of action for businesses, from setting goals to establishing a content plan. The book even covers the common concerns of time management and negative commenters, which many businesses cite as reasons that blogging won't work for them. Tools, tips and insight: it's all here.

"Born to Blog" packs strategies, examples, and entertainment into a powerful book that you can take in during a plane ride (or waiting in the car line at your child's school).

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful lessons in a small package, January 30, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
At my house, Christmas was all about the stockings. The big boxes held sweaters: the small packages had books, concert tickets, magazine subscriptions or other fun gifts that delivered much more than what could be held in such a small box. This book is that kind of gift. A quick read from cover to cover, its pages contain lessons and exercises that deliver much more than can be found within its four corners.

Negative self-talk and cherished illusions about what's holding you back will have nowhere to hide if you really take the time to do the work outlined in this powerful little book. Read it, sit with it, then read it again. Complete the work as Chris directs. If you're brave enough to look inward, you can redraw your life according to your own specifications. This book will show you how!

5.0 out of 5 stars More than encouragement: C.C. inspires by example., December 3, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Any number of books in the Self-Improvement section could be dismissed as overly general, unduly optimistic cliché compilations: this book isn't one of those! There's encouragement, to be sure, but C.C. also injects a healthy dose of realism, courtesy of his own life experiences.

It takes a brave storyteller to share his own journey so openly, and that's why this book is so powerful. When C.C. says you can overcome obstacles, you believe him, because he's done it; and he tells you how.

Inspiration is the magic elixir for success, but there are other ingredients, too. Persistence, determination, humor, and some things that are unique to you. Every person's formula is slightly different, but you need a starting point before you can start improvising. This book is a fantastic place to start!

I challenge you to read this book, then stay put. You won't be able to! "Amazing Things Will Happen" lights a fire in your soul that makes you want to really live. You won't settle for less after reading this.

5.0 out of 5 stars No fluff or filler here: just the good stuff!, November 13, 2012

I teach a graduate course in New Media Marketing, so I'm always looking for good industry books. I tore through "Likeable Business" in record time! If you condensed "The Social Media Bible" and applied it to business, then added a dash of panache, you'd have this book. Definitely check it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars As a Professor, I'd love to use The Impact Equation for my New Media Class!, October 26, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I teach a graduate course in New Media Marketing, and want to adopt this book for my course. Chris and Julien provide a simple formula for creating content that moves your audience to action. In every instance, they provide real world examples of how each part of the equation has yielded success for them as well as other well known people, companies and organizations.

My class starts with online influence, then helps students to leverage content marketing, mobile and game-based marketing, location and more. There are different tools and sites that are currently in vogue for each of these areas, but what I love about The Impact Equation is that it transcends any specific tools or social networks: the principles Chris and Julien explain apply no matter which channels you use to reach your audience. Whatever your goals are, this book can help you achieve them, because it focuses on the people you want to reach, rather than the latest social network or mobile app.

Like most people, I have precious little time to read, and I need to choose the best industry publications to stay current in my field for teaching. Having read Chris's blog for years, I've come to rely on him for consistently top-quality content. I also knew from reading Trust Agents that he and Julien are the real deal: any publication of theirs will be informative and worth reading.

The Impact Equations does not disappoint! They get right to the "good stuff," explaining The Impact Equation (yes, it's an actual equation) and what each part of the process is for building your online influence. The rest of the book expounds on each element, providing plenty of industry examples and thought provoking exercises to ensure that you're able to apply the equation to your unique goals and objectives.

The insights you'll gain from this book are worth much more than this book costs. I liked it so much that I bought one even though I had already received a review copy. The Impact Equation is so good that I wanted to share it, but didn't want to part with my own well loved, dog-eared copy!

Buy this book and read it more than once. Take Chris and Julien's advice to heart, apply it to your online efforts, then watch your content make a whole new impact on your audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for Marketers, January 14, 2011
I teach a graduate course in New Media Marketing, and just revamped my entire curriculum to incorporate this book into every module. Although the subtitle mentions specific technologies (podcasts, blogs, etc.), the principles C.C. and Ann cover apply to any marketing channel, which means that this book will stand the test of time and remain a valuable resource for my students well after they've begun their careers as marketers. Content Rules is both informative and entertaining, which keeps students engaged and helps them to really absorb important lessons. This, in turn, equips them to outperform their competition in every respect (jobs, campaign success, etc.).

Content Rules rules! Get it, read it, share it, and re-read it.
