5.0 out of 5 stars Great intro to Ifa, November 14, 2006
I bought this book about 5 years ago and have loved it ever since. This is one of those rare gems among all the "new age" stuff flooding the market. Baba Ifa Karade has given the reader the basics of Ifa in a straight foward no nonsense fashion. There are several great black and white photos through out the book, as well as some great correspondance tables. I would have liked a little more information on Oshosi, but other than that, it's a truly wonderful book. Ase Baba Ifa Karade.

Sister Marta Moreno Vega has written a wonderful book on Cuban Santeria. Each chapter is brimming with her personal experiences, words of wisdom, and great information on Orisha. Vega has an amazing descriptive writing style that helps the reader to truly feel as though they are a part of the story being related. If you are interested in Cuban Santeria, this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Praise for Infusions of Healing, November 14, 2006
I bought this book unseen and I am so happy to have done so. This book is a virtual treasure trove of practical herbalism and folk healing. There are many herbs listed with traditional uses, great tables of correspondance and my favorite part is a small section on some of the folk saints found in curanderismo. I am very glad to own this book and will treasure it for many years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, November 10, 2006
This is an excellent resource for rootworkers. The author compiled a lot of great information on Moses including history, drawings, and references to biblical sources. There are seals and spells for many purposes and a wonderful chapter called "The Great Voodoo Man of the Bible". I highly reccomend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Because it's beautiful, November 10, 2006
In this book, Tayannah Lee McQuillar has given a great introduction to rootwork and the ways of rootworkers. There are sections on herbs, mojo hands, spells, divination with playing cards, a great section called "Why do rootwork" and more. The author talks about honoring the ancestors and celebrating personal spirituality. I really like this book and reccomend it to anyone interested in doing root.

This is a well written and much needed book. I bought it without having seen it and am so very glad I did. This book is written for those of us who are gay and involved in traditional african religions. I highly reccomend this wonderful book to all.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it, November 7, 2006
When I first saw this book, I thought Oh no, another fulffy wiccan new age waste of paper. Not so. Im sorry to see that this book is no longer in print. I really like the feel of it, and while I am not a wiccan, I can see how this book would be beneficial to all sorts of people, whatever their spirituality. The author presents different sections on Catholocism, Buddism, Hinduism, Old Religion, Santeria, and more. While I do agree with the previous reviewer who wrote about Santeria being combined with other faiths, the section on this is a nice overview for those who would like a little information on it. All in all this is a pretty good book, pick up a good used copy and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars own it love it use it, November 7, 2006
Many of the Anna Riva books seem incomplete, but this is one of her best. People approaching this book should realize that they are not buying a "wiccan" or european candle magic book. What you are getting is hoodoo. This is the reason you need the occult oil formulas, and the incense powders, these products are made to use with spiritual worker's books like this one. This book has nothing to do with fluffy new age practice. If you want a solid candle working book, get this one. Many prayers to saints are included along with affirmations and altar setups.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite, October 15, 2006
This review is from: Prayer Book (Paperback)
The general trend is that most, if not all "Anna Riva" books contain some good information and some bad, or completely false information. This one, I think is the worst of all. Comming from a Catholic background, I love to find new prayer books, and prayer aids to help in daily devotions. This book is deffinently not written for the Catholic user. All the prayers smack of protestant devotions, much of it comming straight out of the King James Bible... I have most of the other Anna Riva books, and like them all for their charm and snippets of folk wisdom, but this one....I could do without.
