5.0 out of 5 stars Adventures in the Garden with Peppa Pig, April 30, 2016
Peppa Pig and her brother George are helping Grandpa plant seeds in the vegetable garden. They have lots of adventures there. An apple falls on Grandpa's head, They see a snail and pretend to be one. They chase a bird away which tries to eat Grandpa Pig's carrot seeds, and Grandma Pig falls in a berry bush!

When it's time to eat a salad from the vegetables, George doesn't think he likes salad. But Grandpa Pig is very smart, and creates something special out of the vegetables.

This is an engaging story. The illustrations and colors are fun. Children may be interested in planting a garden after reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Supportive & Comfortable, April 30, 2016
If you want an athletic sock which doesn't show, these are great. Features to appreciate about them:

* you don't sweat in them - the fabric wicks away moisture

* they support you - they have targeted arch support

* don't fall down in your shoe - they fit snugly but aren't confining

* lightweight - they aren't hot and breathe

* cool - they don't get hot and sweaty as you work out

* non-bulky - they don't bunch up and protect against blisters from seams

I walk about 5 miles a day for exercise, in addition to running errands or walking around the house. My other socks I have to change after a walk or throughout the day as I'm going to class or running errands. I keep extra socks in my purse. With these socks, they last all day without getting sweaty.

I have a size 8 foot and selected the women's small. They fit fine, but I prefer even more stretch and would get the medium next time. Everytime I see these socks in my laundry basket, I grab them first. I'm always happy to put them on. If you want happy feet, try these socks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Checks are Classic Style, April 29, 2016
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Checks are classic and always in style. Love the summery appearance of this tablecloth which will be great for family picnics and eating on the deck. Or it can be taken to the local park to style up one of their picnic tables.

Love that it's 100% natural cotton and machine washable. Cotton feels so much better to the touch than synthetic cloths. It will get some good use over the years. Can just see some platters of corn on the cob, tomatoes with basil and cheese, and a plate of burgers on it.

The Mistresses of Cliveden: Three Centuries of Scandal, Power, and Intrigue in an English Stately Home
The Mistresses of Cliveden: Three Centuries of Scandal, Power, and Intrigue in an English Stately Home
by Natalie Livingstone
Edition: Hardcover
Price: $21.87

5.0 out of 5 stars A Scintillating Read, April 29, 2016
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
300 years of British history are traced through the history of one house: Cliveden. The five women who occupied this home are original and each quite different from the other. Their lives are a splendid lens through which to view the periods in which they lived. You will learn quite a bit of English history - some of the most pivotal years - surrounding the lives of these women who lived at Cliveden.

You will see how the history of Britain affected their lives personally, and how they influenced history. One of the women, Elizabeth - Countess of Orkney - was a mistress of a British King William III. Another occupant of Cliveden, Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, was married to the son of the English King George II, and would have become Queen if her husband Frederkick hadn't died suddenly at a young age. Augusta's son, George III, who grew up at Cliveden eventually did become the next King of England.

Next came Harriet, Duchess of Sutherland, who was one of Queen Victoria's closest confidants when the young Queen came to the throne and asked Harriet to be Mistress of the Robes in charge of hiring maids and ladies in waiting among other duties. Harriet's grandmother was Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire. Harriet spent the first weeks with Victoria after the premature death of Albert.

Finally, there is the inimitable Nancy Astor, born in the United States, who made her mark on English history as the first woman to take a seat in Parliament in the House of Commons. Each woman is a representative - albeit an exalted one - of her times. All of the women suffered tragedy with deaths of children or spouses, occasionally the house catching fire, and the political dramas of the day as Britain was constantly changing and they might be in favor or out of favor, depending on how the Royal and political winds blew.

This is a lively and readable account with fascinating facts and quotes by people of the day, giving insight into the lives of the ruling class of Britain. The author, Nathalie Livingstone, studied history at Cambridge, and has written for newspapers and magazines in Britain She knows how to tell a good story with accurate historical research. Interestingly, the author knows Cliveden quite well as she and her husband currently occupy Cliveden.

I found it easiest to read the book in snatches, and spent a few hours of several nights over several weeks reading about each woman individually. It's a lot of history to absorb - 300 years - if you read it straight through. I found myself always eager to get back to the book wondering what happens next? It really is a brilliant way to learn more English history through this personal approach. I was a history major in college, read a lot of history now, and teach English design history through some of the great houses of England and Scotland. I find it challenging to remember all of the Kings and Queens during this time period, and this book helped me sort it out better through its chronological approach. You see how one era built upon the previous.

Of course, this would make a delightful Masterpiece series. If you enjoy English history, stories of influential women, this is a diverting portal to enter a panoramic 300-year story of a house, its occupants and the events which unite them. Bravo for a scintillating read.

The Art Book for Children - Book Two
The Art Book for Children - Book Two

Price: $14.02

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Selection, April 28, 2016
Am impressed with the selection of art in here for children. There's a diverse group. I'm not a huge fan of modern art, so was glad to see there was a mix of pieces which might interest children. Liked Durer's self-portraits, and Gainsborough's portrait of a couple outside and the woman's skirt was unfinished. There were some paintings I wasn't acquainted with which is always fun.

Now I want to read Book One. I'm a huge fan of finding ways to introduce young children to great art. This book is one avenue.

Froggy Plays in the Band
Froggy Plays in the Band
by Jonathan London
Edition: Paperback
Price: $6.99
117 used & new from $0.01

3.0 out of 5 stars A Little Plot Light, April 28, 2016
Froggy learns about a prize for a band so Froggy creates one with his friends. He plays his dad's Sax. Frogalina is the marching baton twirler. There is an accident when they're before the judges - they win a prize. This sums up the plot. It's not realistic as Froggy learns to play the sax in a few days it seems. But if kids like Froggy, maybe they will want to play a musical instrument after reading this book. Froggy gets a kiss from Frogalina - not sure this Frogalina kissing stuff is good for kids.

4.0 out of 5 stars International Cookbook for Kids, April 28, 2016
If your child wants to cook some French recipes, this book serves them up. The book is divided into sections: soups-salads-breads, appetizers,
main courses and vegetables and desserts. There is a brief introduction to the different regions of France and the foods cooked there.

There are classic French recipes such as Quiche Lorraine and French Onion Soup as well as some which might be unfamiliar such as roast pork with dried plums or cherry cake. The recipes look good and use authentic fresh ingredients. You can learn how to make French baguettes!

This book is part of an international set of cook books for kids called Super Chef. If they like learning about a different country and like to cook, working their way through these cookbooks would be a fun journey in cooking.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Much Margarine & Canned Soups, April 28, 2016
While there are some good recipes in here, I was surprised by the number of recipes which feature a stick of margarine or cans of cream of chicken soup. This book was published in 1992, and we have journey to much healthier eating. Does anyone buy margarine anymore? There are healthier cookbooks out there. This is a bit dated.
