Carla Loves Reggie (Paranormal Centaur Erotica)
Carla Loves Reggie (Paranormal Centaur Erotica)

2.0 out of 5 stars A vignette, really, October 29, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Well, I thought I'd try it. I always had an interest in centaurs, and hey, it was two bucks. As such, the story doesn't promise much, and barely delivers that. There is a centaur and there is adult content; and that's a pretty complete synopsis. Three of the claimed eleven pages are titles and dedications. I find it kind of amusing that the illustration of the centaur character (which begins the "book") does not even slightly resemble the description of the character in the story. Not a purchase I'd repeat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep Sleep compatibility, February 26, 2008
One issue that has plagued add-in USB cards for the Macintosh for years is problems with power saving. Either the computer will not sleep, will crash on waking or sleeping, or it will lose contact with the card and attached devices. This card, when used with Mac OS 10.5.2 specifically, seems to eliminate these problems. According to email from Sonnet support, this was fixed in the 10.5 beta, broken in 10.5 and 10.5.1, and now works properly. My G5 will enter deep sleep, and wake correctly, even with a USB floppy drive connected and a disk in the drive. Will other cards now work properly? Maybe, but so far only Sonnet has actually said so in writing. I'm very happy!

3.0 out of 5 stars More known space, but..., October 25, 2007
First, I generally buy - in hardcover - anything with Larry Niven's name on it, without even stopping for breath. If it's part of the Known Space universe, so much the better. This title, while quite good and entertaining in itself, left me feeling slightly deflated.

Similar to the last Star Wars prequel, this novel has to fit itself in, adhering to both earlier and later works; a space one feels the author originally was going to left unexplored. The Pierson's Puppeteers, one of my favorite alien species in all science fiction, are explored in MUCH greater detail than before. And you know, their emotions and motivations turn out to be quite human, after all. Without revealing too much, they also turn out to be a lot less likeable.

This, to me, is not a good thing. Mr. Niven has long done an exemplary job of meeting the old science fiction challenge (Campbell?) "A creature that thinks as well as a human, but not LIKE a human." A few other things are also over explored and over explained, like the General Products hull. Who knew it was so easy to destroy?

Still, I don't regret my purchase, and the novel does leave a planet-sized loose end wandering the universe, to spawn further sequels. Yay!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not an improvement over the original release., March 31, 2005
While this is "all new digitally remastered" I think most film buffs will find the picture quality a disappointment. The major change is an unnatural increase in color saturation; you could get the same effect (if you wanted to) with a minor adjustment to your TV. There do not appear to be any other "improvements." Certainly the picture does not resemble what was seen in theaters. I find it distracting and unpleasant to look at.

Don't buy this release as a replacement for the older disk - In fact, you may want to specifically look for the older disk if you don't have it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This movie taught this grownup some things, October 6, 2003
ASIDE from the spectacular animation, the laughs, and the endearing characters - this film has great educational value. For whatever reason, I grew up with an...uneasiness...around people with handicaps. By the end of the film I was completely oblivious to the fact two of the main characters were physically or mentally challenged. Dora, in fact, was one of the most charming characters I've seen in film recently - animated or not.
I also (as a divorced father) greatly appreciated a single FATHER being portrayed as loving and capable. Too much of media shows men, if not actually villains, as bumbling or careless - if they're present at all.
BRAVO! The film is so entertaining you hardly notice positive lessons are being reinforced.

1.0 out of 5 stars Forced Advertisements - don't buy this disk!, August 29, 2003
This disk forces you to sit and watch appoximately 5 minutes of promotional materials for a half dozen other Universal releases - each and every time you use it! The "Menu" key and others are disabled until the prom has run it's course.
Let's not encourage this trend - don't buy this disk and return it if you have. BTW, the picture and sound quality ARE a bit better than prior editions, which makes this more of a shame. The "Special Materials" are unimpressive. The movie itself, of course is one of the best.
