5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, February 25, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
They shipped it with some extra tinder-quik, so I tested it out and works great with my Firesteel for quickly making a fire. It burns very hot for at least a minute. If you compare it to paper tinder-quik burns hotter and longer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Worst "survival" book ever, February 24, 2010
First of all calling this book a novel is very misleading because there is no character development and I could come up several more believable scenarios and probably write a better book than Rawles. This can basically be divided into 3 parts: how to prepare, how to defend against looters, and how to fight the NWO. This book has lots of lists, making the plot seem like a footnote that could be better represented by footnotes or a timeline like this: government debt->government prints money to pay debt->hyperinflation->banking crisis->the US becomes a war torn 3rd world country->UN troops try to take over the US->Patriots defeat the UN.
Second, this scenario is seems impossible considering how the UN has a reputation of being unsuccessful in pacifying countries, and that the US provides most of the funding to the UN. Also if that scenario happened Europe would be in just as bad a shape as the US, because of financial contagion and that European countries have high debt as well.
Third, I could write a better book. This book only covers an unbelievable worst case scenario, I would contend that the real worse case scenario is that the US follows the Weimer Republics policy and create inflation, but I would deviate from Rawles and create two versions after the inflation. The first is that congress passes a law to make a dictator (like Hitler) and the dictator solves the financial crisis but liberty is lost and the Patriots fight the dictator. The second is that the US sells off the west coast states to pay off its debt and patriots fight the foreign power and create their own country, The United States of Cascadia.
In conclusion I would rather you buy a book on food storage, one on surgery, and the US army field manuals that Rawles copyed because they the field manuals contain way more information on how to make improvised explosives, shotguns, silencers, and lots of other very illegal stuff, even if they were printed in the 60s.
