5.0 out of 5 stars Trendnet TU3-ETG is a great addition to a Chromebook for a LAN environment, July 7, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a review for the Trendnet TU3-ETG USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet LAN adapter. I'm using this on a cheap Acer Chromebook (CB3-111 series). I needed a more reliable connection than the flaky WiFi connections here. This device is plug and play and was instantly recognized by the Chromebook as an Ethernet connection without the need to install any drivers whatsoever. The addition of this device makes the Chromebook a bit faster than using a wireless connection and far more reliable than hunting for lost signals. This makes it harder than ever to justify a full-on laptop for most users. Nice job TRENDnet.

5.0 out of 5 stars MaryKate versus unholy Maine lake mung, June 19, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Sitrep: Maine lake, fiberglass boat in the water from June to October. Tried everything on the accursed lake mung that had seemingly stained the hull for all eternity. Car wash soap: No. Tub and tile cleaner. No. White vinegar. No. GooGone, GoofOff, dish detergent, bleach, PurplePower. No. This is like some sort of unholy intergalactic lake mung. Enter MaryKate. Protect trailer with plastic per directions (this stuff may eat metal so there's that). Wear face shield (3M Face Shield), safety glasses (stupid - I'll get goggles next time), Grundens overalls, industrial rubber gloves (West Chester 12018 18" Chemical Resistant Gloves, Large, Black). Forgot the respirator (more on that in a minute). Have wife on standby to call medical assistance along with hose in case I slip and pitch headlong into the open bucket o' MaryKate. Dump contents of On and Off into a white 5 gallon bucket. Use a long handled car wash brush (Carrand 93053 Dip-n-Wash Vehicle Wash Brush, 8" Head with 48" Handle - the bottle says use a "natural bristle brush" but this worked just fine). Try not to breathe. Insert brush into white liquid, Drag brush over mung. Seconds later, mung is gone. Continue around 19' boat taking no more than 3 minutes. Eventually have to breathe. Bad idea. Next year, I'm getting a half-face respirator and some good North cartridges. Hose off the residual and marvel at the product's effectiveness. It's like an "as seen on TV" infomercial but this stuff worked. Drop the mic, boom, done. Amazing really. That said, there will be a next year. I think you could clean a couple of 19' boats with one bottle of MK O&O. Results may vary but I was convinced rinsing only with about 50 psi garden hose (some show a pressure washer but that wasn't necessary for our evil mung). Please, use caution with this stuff. It's very high strength and produces a very strong gas that you don't want to inhale. Thanks for the feedback, it helped me choose this incredible project.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and good. Who knew?, May 21, 2016
Believe the hype. I'm picky w/ flashlights but have been impressed with this for the money. No excuse now to keep an incandescent flashlight in your boat. Buy a couple because at this price you can't go wrong. These are a little large for storing in a small glove box so consider that if storage is tight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heirloom quality truck / dry box, December 12, 2015
I've had one of these for 10 years. We use this in a 2012 Tundra that has a tonneau cover. Why would you need a dry-box under a toneau? No tonneau is leak proof so if you're carrying stuff that needs to stay dry this is a way to ensure it stays dry. This box a fits under the closed cover and is handy for taking home groceries or other items that you don't want rattling around in the truck bed. It's heavy duty and water resistant. Mine didn't have a gasket or anything to keep water out but a wrap of duct tape would guarantee dryness unless submerged. If you are looking for a heavy duty box that will last a long time this is a good choice. I use Ballistol on the metal moving parts to keep them rust-free. The lock is wimpy and could easily be drilled out but serves to keep kids and curious folks out. There are holes for dual padlocks. It works well on the delta shaped area of trailer tongues as an extra storage box. Use ratcheting straps over the top and it will travel very well. Also good for storing stuff outside when car-camping.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice distributor for the money, October 3, 2015

Cheaper than a brand new one but I don't think I could actually tell the difference. This looked completely new in every way. By the time you dub around replacing all of the old parts its sort of foolish to not just get a new distributor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hey buddy, how 'bout a lift?, October 3, 2015
Bought this from a different vendor but it warrants a review. Have had it for 6 years. Requires 220 volt to power the hydraulic pump. Requires air to release the mechanical "dogs" that lock the lift in place. The system is mechanically robust and simple. A hydraulic cylinder connects to four wire ropes. Each rope is a different length. Via sheaves (pulleys) the hydraulic cylinder moves forward and back and translates the lateral motion into vertical motion through the wire ropes. Mechanical "dogs" lock the lift in place at 4" intervals. The air system releases the dogs. Disconnect the air and the lift is locked down so it can't come down on your head. If you have to do Lock Out Tag Out at work this is how you'd control that stored energy.

Anyone building a new garage should consider this. It's far less money to get a lift than it is to build another garage bay. Just build the garage taller and you can double your vehicle storage. You need to consider your vehicle heights carefully. The HD9 is too short (vertically) to drive a pickup under for example. Other versions have greater vertical lift so just do that homework in advance. The major plus for the lift is that you can do your own vehicle maintenance. We use it to lift up cars to change tires (use a scissor jack on a 4x6; very stable and safe) at waist height. Great for exhaust work. I've used it on four wheeler projects, trailer projects and even changing riding mower blades (drive it perpendicular to the normal path, strap it down and pop off the blades easily and safely for sharpening). Many people have been over to use it for projects so it's great for learning.

I give it four stars because the paint is not robust on the elements you drive on. We live in an area where salt is applied in the winter and the thin paint is now flaking away even though salted vehicles are only occasionally placed on it in the winter for maintenance. A more durable coating would be recommended so if you buy one consider having the horizontal elements Rhinolined (or whatever the local pickup bed material is in your neck of the woods; Gatorhyde etc).

Assembly isn't super easy but we found that using an ATV lift to help position the heavy horizontal elements was helpful. The ATV lift was able to lift those elements and hold them at the right installation elevation and the wheels on the ATV lift made positioning really easy. It was a PITA before we struck on that trick. Extra care is required if you bolt it to you floor (we did) to ensure the posts are perfectly square. The instructions were relatively easy to follow. We did not place extra concrete beneath the post locations and have seen no detrimental impacts. The lift is designed so one could operate it on casters; we just opted to fix the location for additional safety.

Recap. Cheaper than building another bay and less property taxes as a result. Super handy for all kinds of projects. Paint on horizontal elements is wimpy. Since it requires an air compressor you get to justify an air compressor which is also all kinds of handy. It has paid for itself by allowing me to do projects that would have cost time and money going to a shop. Super safe using the same mechanical locking systems on their very heavy duty commercial lifts.

Look at other brands. I think they all work on the same premise. This one seemed decent and my experience backs that up. Good luck on your new lift, you'll be very pleased with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tundra TRD lugnuts, June 28, 2015
Needed this to remove the lug nuts from a 2012 Tundra with TRD wheels. Shallower 22mm sockets don't work. The Tekton seems like a fine piece of metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for firearms, June 21, 2015
An alternative to WD-40 for lubricating and cleaning metals that seems to work better. Worth the premium. Use it all the time on squeaky hinges, dry bolts, wiping down tools after use to help thwart rust. 6 ounce cans w/ spray tip are handy and if you use it as a homeowner it will last for a few years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Plastic clips that hold your boat fender, June 1, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Effective at keeping a vinyl boat fender properly secured and rapidly removed from the side of your boat. There's no substitute. Just don't lose them because at $6 each it's a lot of scratch for a tiny piece of plastic. I don't know why they don't call these fender clips. Took me a long time to figure out what they are called.
