5.0 out of 5 stars Great incandescent replacement, February 3, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It really looks like an incandescent bulb -- the LEDs look like filaments, the bulb looks like a bulb, the color is warm and bright. Only differences so far: uses a lot less power, and doesn't work well in a dimmer (flickers visibly).

4.0 out of 5 stars Jung talks about synchronicity & astrology, Pauli talks about Kepler, June 25, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Philosophical and interesting. In the two essays, Jung comes across as a bit bananacakes, while Pauli is a model of erudition and reason. But the biographical sketch explaining the relationship between the two men describes how Pauli lived an erratic, troubled life and how Jung tried to help him.

In his essay, Jung describes doing a statistical study of astrology, and half-convinces himself there is something to it, although his interpretation of the statistics is very stretched. In Pauli's essay, he mentions this in one footnote, saying something to the effect of, "as Jung has demonstrated in this volume, there's nothing to astrology."

3.0 out of 5 stars Firmer than I would like, June 25, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have enjoyed sleeping on a genuine Tempur-pedic, and I had heard good things about this mattress. It does the job, but I'm disappointed that it is firmer than I like.

Pros:
* affordable
* ships compactly in one box, easy to set up
* works

Cons:
* it's not as conforming as other memory-foam I've slept on

2.0 out of 5 stars range is inadequate for a wandering dog, August 14, 2011
I've tried to use this to find my dog, who likes to get distracted during walks in the woods. The device works fine when the dog is in range, but the range in typical woods is like 20 yards. Generally when I can't find my dog, she is further away than that, making the loc8tor completely useless.

Also, the silicone loop on the waterproof tracker cover is too fragile for a dog that likes to bushwhack.

It sounds like this product works better for cats who hide in odd places but don't roam far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, August 8, 2011
This review is from: Adult Cabaret (Audio CD)
A dozen great wall of sound pop-punk anthems and only one mid-tempo ballad. Even that is catchy. I have no idea where Slimer came from or where they went but they left behind a great album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece, July 26, 2011
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. It's the same vein as Dinosaur Jr., early Replacements, Jawbreaker.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, January 12, 2010
If you're a publishing, advertising or TV executive you might like it -- it spends a lot of time on media industry inside baseball. But if you actually want to understand what's happening to our society, I think the analysis is dangerously shallow and reliant on stereotypes of engineers vs suits.

If you are genuinely interested in Google as a company and a phenomenon you would be much better off with John Batelle's _The Search_.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre, June 5, 2007
Add me to the chorus of naysayers. There are a few good concepts in here, buried in repetitive, obtuse writing and confusing (!) layout.

Some, even many, of the examples are good, but the book is too small in format to do them proper justice. I wouldn't be surprised if White designed the book for a larger size, but it got reduced to cut costs.

I'm a dabbler/hobbyist with a limited design bookshelf, but for what it's worth, I would suggest instead:

The Non-Designer's Design Book -- for a much clearer and more compelling introduction to graphic design basics for novices. Simple and informal, but way more memorable.

Logo Font & Lettering Bible: A Comprehensive Guide to the Design, Construction and Usage of Alphabets and Symbols -- colorful, packed with visual ideas, pure fun.

Thinking with Type: A Critical Guide for Designers, Writers, Editors, & Students (Design Briefs) -- much better written, more comprehensive, and better looking "serious" coverage of similar material.
