5.0 out of 5 stars Great book about a great hero, April 4, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Admiral Denton was a true patriot and a brave man.

Jeremiah Denton was correct in his observation in American society's decline and in its causes. I just hope we come to our senses before it's too late.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fix for USB connection issues, March 29, 2014
For those of you having a problem with the micro USB cords making contact: Take an X-acto knife, or any other sharp knife, and trim off a small slice of the rubber insulation from the top of the male connector on the USB cord. The problem is interference between the rubber insulation on the male connector and edge of the case above the USB socket. While I agree you shouldn't have to modify your accessories to fit a $100 product, this fix actually works.

Mophie needs to correct this or find somewhere else to mount the USB socket.

3.0 out of 5 stars The case needs a little redesign., August 4, 2012
The case has 3 problems:

1. The home button, as everyone else said, activates SIRI when the phone is carried in a pants pocket. I shaved off the inside of the home button on the silicone case with an X-Acto knife.

2. I bought the black case with a yellow-green (citron) shell. When the flash is used, reflections from the shell cause the photos to be greenish. I colored the camera opening and inside of the case around the camera black with a Sharpie permanent marker. That seems to have fixed the problem. The camera opening and the area inside of the case should be painted flat black by the manufacturer, if the inside shell is some color other than black.

3. The noise canceling mic is covered by the top flap. One of the worst problems for cellphone calls is the amount of ambient noise the cellphones pick up. In a noisy restaurant, a person receiving the call often hears more background noise than conversation. Covering the noise canceling mic on the iPhone, which effectively cancels ambient noise, defeats the purpose.

5.0 out of 5 stars MD 314LL/A 2.8 GHz, 750 GB HDD, November 13, 2011
The reviews here are for the MD313LL/A, yet the computer is actually MD314LL/A, which has a faster processor and bigger hard drive.

The MD314LL/A features a 2.8 GHz i7 processor, integrated Intel 3000 graphics and a 750 GB hard drive. I've never owned an Apple laptop before, so there was a little bit of a learning curve. Now that I'm getting the hang of it, I'm beginning to like OSX Lion better than Windows. Programs can be run on separate virtual desktops, and the computer never misses a beat when several programs are active. Switching between different desktops or open programs can be done by merely sliding three fingers forward on the large touchpad. Control-clicking on words or phrases in Safari brings up a context sensitive menu which allows the user to select to view a dictionary, Wikipedia, or do a Google search in a pop-up window in the browser. You can also ask the computer to speak the word or phrase, if you have any doubts about pronunciation. Safari also includes links to a library of plug-ins at, which includes a plug-in for Flash, so you can now watch free Hulu videos and other videos online. The network preferences window makes it far easier than Windows to set up a list of public DNS servers to bypass the sometimes slow, glitchy ISP servers.

This computer is completely silent. I wasn't even sure it had a cooling fan until I downloaded a utility to monitor the fan speed. This computer is super fast, and the base plate never gets more than lukewarm. The light weight, small footprint, lighted keyboard, crisp screen and speed really make this computer shine.

The attention to detail is really outstanding. The cooling vents on the back of the base are completely covered by a sliding plate when the lid is closed, keeping dust out of the innards. The power supply has flip out legs for winding the cord for storage and the prongs can be removed so it can be used as a brick type supply with the supplied AC cord. The computer also has a green LED battery status gauge built into the left side of the base, which is activated by a flush button. The lid snaps shut quietly even though there are no cheesy stick-on rubber bumpers, and it is held closed by magnets. The built in light sensor shuts off the keyboard backlighting and brightens the display in bright ambient light. The computer also has a 3 axis accelerometer to protect the hard drive from damage. The attention to detail is why Macs are more expensive than the various PC clones.

2.0 out of 5 stars Time for a reality check, February 26, 2011
Seriously, the author has chosen to use a bunch of slackers from low budget comedies to illustrate her point. If she truly believes art is a reflection of life, then she needs to explore the other side of the coin: Women really aren't interested in the hard working, industrious, studious guy--you know, the one who might actually achieve something in life besides a gang tattoo and a prison sentence. Modern movies and sitcoms have gone out of their way to portray thuggish men as heroes, and industrious men as nerds, geeks, sissies, or effeminate. Women in real life seem to agree.

I'd be surprised if the Lockup documentaries, portraying life inside maximum security prisons, isn't as popular among women as some porn cable channels are among men. Given a choice between a hard-working, clean cut man and a homicidal, tattooed convict, women will choose the latter.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm glad someone still makes affordable mechanical clocks, February 5, 2011
I had a Baby Ben, made in Norcross, GA, that finally failed after 10 years. The clock, which cost only $15 new, was still keeping excellent time, but the winding arbor broke off. I really missed the ticking of the escapement, and I've been looking for a reliable replacement ever since. Westclox moved Big Ben/Baby Ben production to China in 2000. I bought a new Chinese made Big Ben at Target several years ago. The mechanism had nylon gears, a steel balance wheel, and would not keep time no matter where I set the regulator. The mainspring broke after a month. When I took the clock apart to find out why, I discovered the spring was just a coil of rusty, non tempered metal. Needless to say, I won't be buying any Westclox products anytime soon.

This Sternreiter clock reminds me of a Linden Black Forest clock I had as a kid. I had that clock for years, and I hope this one is just as reliable. I love the ticking of the escapement.
