5.0 out of 5 stars No regrets when buying direct from Amazon., January 28, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I see the complaints about bogus cartridges and remind myself of the the adage "If it sounds too good to be true...". When there is a potential for fake cartridges (or counterfeit items of any nature) always go with the version direct from Amazon. Sure it costs more but you can expect a factory fresh genuine article first time, every time. And the direct from Amazon price still blows the socks off the big box retailers.

5.0 out of 5 stars First impression is that it is a good investment, September 4, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First impression is that it is a good investment. Solid feel. Smooth action.

Pros:
Surprisingly stout. I was a little worried the twist locks might be a bit of a hassle but are actually very easy to use and control wobble nicely.
Reasonably compact. Smaller in diameter than I was expecting and short enough lengthwise to easily fit in a backpack.
Overall construction is solid and has some well thought out details. Built-in nut at the head so you can't lose it. Head is aluminum so I have no worries about it breaking off. Padded wrist strap should be more comfortable around water and has a sliding bead to keep it on the wrist. Included metal thumbscrew wrench is nice to have when you really need to clamp it down. Internally structured to prevent the pole from rotating around the long axis. (i.e. no worries about the camera rolling over sideways.)

Cons:
None specific.

Other thoughts:
To use this with anything other than a GoPro, you will need an adapter.
Materials appear such that it shouldn't have any problems around saltwater.

Overall feels like a good purchase. No regrets here. Would recommend to a friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars I thought the old one was toast but....., June 8, 2014
I tried and tried to get the old sensor to function but to no avail. While shopping here for a replacement, I clicked on Amazon's TX29U-IT Sensor page and there was a set of pairing instructions that are not shown here. So to simplify (and hopefully help others) here they are:

1. Bring both units inside and have the units 3-5 feet apart with nothing in-between them.
2. Remove the batteries from both units.

3. Press one of the buttons on the display at least 20 times to clear all memory. Verify that the display is blank before proceeding.

4. Using a good quality alkaline battery place them back into the remote sensor; making sure they are installed according to the diagrams in the battery compartment. Next, taking care not to press any buttons, reinstall the batteries in the display according to the diagram in the battery compartment.
5. Do not press any buttons for at least 15 minutes after installing the batteries. (Let them establish a good connection.
An outdoor temperature should be showing on your display. You can now put your outdoor sensor back outside.

Number 3 is what made the difference. I had performed the others over and over with no results. I have not seen #3 posted anywhere else, including La Cross Tech's web site.

The original unit which has been outside for the better part of 10 years is now up and running again. 5 stars.

Too much dust makes them useless for cleaning camera lenses. Okay for glasses I guess. Only real positive is price.

5.0 out of 5 stars When it's on, you know it's going to stay on., April 15, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had previously purchased the cheaper brand where you have to disconnect between the links to put the collar on and always had doubt as to whether I had gotten it hooked back together properly. On two occasions it failed and both were in a situation that could have been fatal to the dog. This collar goes on quickly and easily and you always know you have a positive connection.

As for the accompanying training materials, I never looked at them so I can't say if they are valid or not.

3.0 out of 5 stars Two steps forward, two steps back., February 17, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Pros: The 15% upgrade of this unit to the 3000 mah power cells was a good improvement. The low beam and flash modes were also a good addition.

Cons: Removing the battery level indicator was a significant loss and the reason for the three stars. Now there is no way of knowing how much power is left so it constantly has to be charged to be sure the power is there when you need it. Removal of the delay in the light switch also makes it too easy to turn on accidentally and now you run the risk of discharging it without realizing it (were it to get bumped in the glove box or other locations where you might not notice the light)

The auto-sensing is still there and is a very nice feature.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Solution, October 30, 2011
This plus a couple of Loksak 5x4 waterproof bags was perfect for carrying a camera and a cellphone during a recent amusement park trip which included coasters and water rides. And as it was relatively unnoticeable around my waist beneath my shirt tail, no hassles from the ride operators. Neither the bulk nor the stigma of a fanny pack.

Stretches to several times its original size due to the stretchy mesh and the way it is folded before sewn. Open weave mesh may show contents depending on how much it is strecthed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very limited thread length, March 9, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Very small yet solid feeling. Nicely machined. The only real problem with this device is the length of available threads. Because of the excessive depth of the platform nut, there is very limited thread length available and the unit I received has even slightly less than that shown in the photos. So look at the pictures provided carefully before purchasing as the unit no matter how solid feeling and well machined does not inspire confidence when it is being attached to expensive equipment.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good deal for price but has a couple of issues, October 31, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vidpro MP-10 Monopod (Electronics)
Good deal for price but has a couple of issues. The ball joint is a little too loose and there is no way to tighten. I had difficulty keeping the fairly lightweight GoPro stable. The other issue has to do with the locking ring. The rubber pad keeps it from locking properly and thus the camera still rotates on the threads. This problem is easily solved by turning the locking ring upside down.

Edit: Ball joint failed after only a few weeks and would no longer hold camera in position. Now would not recommend at any price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what its supposed to do but way overpriced., October 14, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: GoPro Tripod Mount (Camera)
For some reason GoPro believes this little jewel is worth it's weight in gold because that's about what they charge for it. And I wouldn't object so much but it even doesn't come with a nut. Adding a nut might raise their total production costs all the way up to what, 15 cents maybe. So at nearly eight bucks, the price is totally absurd. But then again, it's the same will all their accessories. They sell the camera cheap and then stick you for the accessories you need to get the most out of it.

Edit: Since the original review, GoPro has seen the error in their ways and is now including a nut. In response, upped rating to 4 stars. Still shouldn't be more than five bucks though.
