5.0 out of 5 stars The real history of the Africian campaingn - World War II, May 14, 2013
I'll open by saying that I have known Jack Barber and his family for the majority of my life, but at a great distance. They were in Australia, my family in the United States. Jack and my father were wartime friends, Jack with the Australian Army, Dad with the U. S. Army Air Force (Pacific). My understanding of their meeting leads directly into this book. Jack's unit had returned to the Pacific area and was sleeping on the beach, without cots. Dad's unit (863rd Army Engineers) was heavy with cots, but lacked the capability of producing non-military, adult beverages, a.k.a. hooch. Jack's unit apparently had access to an abundance of Ralston cereal, the trade was on. To me, a classic example of how the military worked then, and to some degree, still does. If only the top brass knew.

Having spent my military time in the Vietnam era, I found the book constantly interesting and true to life in war zones. First, there is the `hurry up and wait', then the `moments of terror', and of course, the `hours upon hours of boredom'. This read will take you back in time to see the African campaign through the eyes of what we would call a GI; dust storms, fighter aircraft, artillery rounds, combat rations, and military life of that time. Jack, quite a jokester in his own right, explains exceptionally well, how the campaign was fought, and won.

In closing, I will add that I had the honor of spending a couple hours with this WWII Veteran shortly after he and my dad had parted ways for their last time. They are both gone now, as are so many of our WWII Vets, but, somewhere, somehow, I see them together again, and heaven knows what they are up to this time.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you know the Valley, you will enjoy this one., March 26, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A great read if you know the Turtle Creek valley in Pennsylvania. Although a few years older than myself, the area and times were all very familiar. Based on the author's growing up and schooling at St. Coleman's in his youth, many memories were sparked, even though I attended public school and was not Catholic. One note to the author.... We did not take recess in the gym at Penn Ave School. We were outside, in the rain and snow, just like you.

Right now, until something better comes along, this is the fastest 'write' SDHC available. Using it in a Canon 60D and it performs well and without failure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Back Saver, March 26, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Great two wheel dolly for light loads that are too much for an old back. The wheels are large enough to go over bumps and steps / curbs, without dragging bottom. The supplied elastic retaining 'rope' is a little on the weak side, don't expect too much there, but does the job for lighter loads. The unit folds to a very compact size to fit in the trunk of your car. I don't fly anymore, but question what the airlines would say about this in overhead storage (up front, by the cabin door possibly). Great for lugging a heavy camera bag around when the back is acting up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Replacement Eye Cup ONLY, March 26, 2013

This review is from: Canon Eye Cup Eb (Camera)
As a replacement eye cup.....perfect. But, do not expect it to have a diopter or any form of lens, it doesn't. Being used on a Canon 60D, I also purchased a 'special' diopter to supplement the original equipment diopter. In reality, I didn't need to, but now, I have a spare. In other words, you can add a 'special' diopter lens without the need to purchase this.

This is the Asian spoon that you usually see in restaurants. Plain white, porcelain, glazed, and very useful. When it comes to Asian noodles and soups, this is the spoon you want.

5.0 out of 5 stars A 'Must Read' if you are a 'Cricker'., March 26, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Born and raised on the Electric Plan in Turtle Creek, this book hit home in more ways than one. The author is a few years older, but names and landmarks were all very familiar. I roamed every inch of land she mentions, plus considerable more. If anything, she understates the number of times we walked up and down 'that hill' for school, sports, shopping, and other youth activities. If your are from TC and especially the Electric Plan in TC, this is a great read. I have purchased additional copies for family and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Purchased for use on Canon 430EX Speedlight, March 26, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This was purchased for use on my Canon 430EX Speedlight and it fits perfect. Velcro type strap allows for quite a bit of latitude as to what flash this is used on. The strap can be pulled snug to retain the softbox to the flash unit, but it is NOT a one-handed operation. A couple seconds of two-handed installation does the job. There is an internal (additional) diffuser which can be placed in front of your flash head to soften the flash even more. The instructions are VERY weak and say nothing about this secondary diffuser, but it is there. Again, Velcro type material is used to hold the secondary diffuser in place, or in the stored position. I am finding the sides fairly stiff, vynil / leatherette (yet flexible), unlike some previous comments about it not being so. There is a metal frame to hold the primary diffuser / softbox lens in place. That frame also serves to keep the softbox lens wrinkle free. In all, good construction for the money.

I will have to post more later on the use of the softbox in the field. Because of weather, there has not been enough time to put it through the paces. My intent is to use it for off-camera fill light. And, at least for now, it appears that this unit will 'fill the bill'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative but Dated, March 26, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The information is very informative, the color plates are quality, but the information (at no fault of the authors) is dated (2005). New Heucheras are developed every year and there is no way you can publish a book and include the latest and greatest. If you purchase for 'base knowledge' fine, very good book. if you are looking for the latest and greatest, not so fine. Overall, a very good reference book if you are using Heuchera in your garden. In general, that is why I purchased it, and the way it will be used.
