I have been a NR fan for a long time but found this book to be a huge disappointment. The characters are very flat and I couldn't get interested in them at all. The story doesn't have any of the normal suspense or twists and was quite frankly just boring. If I had wanted to read a harlequin romance, I would have purchased one. The reader of this audio book was horrible. I will never again purchase an audio book read by Peter Berkrot.

Cass Sinclair was now back home in Legacy after being gone for months taking care of her mother who succumbed to terminal cancer. Cass was very excited to be home participating in best friend Moira's wedding, but she felt the weight of the world on her shoulders. Her load was made heavier when she met Doug Daniels and Damon Roberts at the bachelorette party. It was being held at their house, and while she felt the instant mutual attraction between them, she was terrified of the feelings they were forcing to the surface.

Doug and Damon felt the powerful attraction to Cass, and couldn't wait to explore it. It had been too long since they had met a woman that moved them. When they approached her, she was afraid of what she wanted, but they were very persuasive, and soon they were all embroiled in an erotic interlude that left them all changed. Doug and Damon were talking about forever, and Cass was just trying to get through each day. When Cass started receiving attention from a stalker intending to do her harm, Doug and Damon laid everything on the line to protect her.

I really liked Cass's story! You just knew when she got involved with Damon and Doug that they would be hot together, and I was not disappointed. Doug is so strong and dominant in direct contrast with Damon's softer soul that you just can't wait for the sparks to fly. Cass is so heartsick over her mother's death, and these two charge into her life when she needs them the most.

Lacey Daughtry had been extremely close to her brother Rob since the unexpected death of their parents when she was just a teen. He and his two best friends had always been there for her, but she knew even at a young age that her feelings for Mason Clark and Tyler Lambert were different. When she was young, she crushed on them, and that grew into love as she got older. It broke her heart that they rejected her at every turn, but that didn't diminish her feelings for them.

When Rob is killed in the line of duty, Lacey's world comes crashing down around her. She is devastated by the loss, but Mason and Tyler refuse to let her push them away. In their constant company, she realizes that they aren't as immune to her as she had previously believed. In a weakened moment they gave into to the feelings that they had always had for Lacey, and it changed the course of their lives forever.

This was a really good read! It is so well written that you can feel Lacey's pain when her brother is killed. Whether you have personally experienced this type of loss or not, you will be engaged in this book from the very beginning. There are some very poignant moments that will remain with you long after you finish. It is well balanced between story and some very scorching erotic passages - that always is a winning combination. Mason and Tyler have such incredible chemistry with Lacey that it is combustible! This is one that you won't want to miss!!

Ian Witherspoon was a man with a plan. He was finally getting married to a woman he had been promised to for over twelve years. His lover Derek Knightly was less than thrilled because he couldn't see the big picture. Ian thought it was important for their future for them to be involved with someone that wasn`t involved with the war. He thought they could both get past it at some point if they had a tomorrow to look forward to. He couldn't wait because he would finally have the complete family he has always wanted that hopefully included children from both he and Derek. He just had to make Derek understand his vision for the future, but right now he just couldn't get past his anger to see it.

Sophie Middleton couldn't wait to meet her future husband Ian. She had heard the rumors about he and his lover, but she was going to get the opportunity to escape from her abysmal life. She has lived such a horrific existence; the fact that there might be a light at the end of the tunnel was enough for her to have hope. She knew that she wasn't a catch by any stretch of the imagination, and intended to let Ian know he could continue with his lover as if nothing had changed. Sophie just hoped Ian would go through with the marriage, so she didn't have to suffer the abuse any longer.

As plans for the wedding progressed, Derek became more despondent. He was not giving Ian up, but didn't feel he had much to bargain with since the wedding was going to take place. Derek refused to like her, and hadn't even been polite enough to introduce himself. He made himself scarce, so he didn't have to deal with it. Ian had informed him about the abuse Sophie had suffered at the hands of her family, but even that was not enough to melt the anger in his heart. When the wedding day arrived, Derek made the concession, and attended the wedding against his own better judgment. What no one realized was that a past enemy had just inserted himself into their future.

This was a fine addition to the Brothers in Arms series. Sophie just broke my heart. She had endured so much in her short life. You can see right away why Ian felt so protective of her. It was a treat to see her blossom with Ian. She went from a frightened woman to a force to be reckoned with. She even got to the point where she could spar with Derek, and come out on top. Well-developed characters in a suspenseful story make this a good read!

Rachel Foster had been trying for years to carve out some sort of semblance to a normal life. Her design business was finally starting to take off, but her personal life was still a disaster. Her alcoholic mother always made things difficult, but her sister's suicide had left a gaping hole in her heart, and she didn't know if she would ever get over it. When she ran into the man that drove her sister to take that drastic step, she couldn't contain her anger and resentment.

Travis Gage couldn't believe his luck when he ran into Rachel. He always liked her, and couldn't understand the hatred she felt for him. When she blurted out he was responsible for her sister's death, you could have knocked him over with a feather. Travis had spent years as a cop fighting for those that couldn't fight for themselves, and was determined to find out why Rachel thought he played some part in Carrie's death.

This is another good story by EK. I always enjoy her offerings, and this one is no different. Rachel is such a complex character that has lived a very difficult life. You can feel her ongoing pain and struggle. Travis enters her life at a time when she really needed someone that she could trust and rely on. You want them to solve the unanswered questions about Carrie's death, so Rachel can finally move on. An enjoyable read you don't want to miss.

I had really high hopes for this story. The premise sounded like a good read that my book group would enjoy, but I can't recommend it. It would have been a more plausible story if it would have been written for teenagers. It is just beyond imagination and ridiculous that adults would conduct their lives as if they were children. A Promise is important, but not when it is detrimental to the person you made the promise to. People grow up and change.

Mandy Keeling never believed she would find herself in the position of being unemployed, and even worse, pregnant with no one to rely on. She didn't even try to lie to herself about being in love with Ben. When she broke the news of her pregnancy, he had wanted no part of it, and offered her money to make it go away. If he couldn't love her baby, it was over for them. Mandy knew she had to find a way to make a life for herself and the baby, and that meant she had to find a stable job. Her roommate Caroline suggested her employer was looking for a new assistant, but warned her that he was an absolute demon to work for. Mandy didn't care as long as it was a steady job with health insurance.

Damien Sharpton couldn't believe he had hired a new assistant that had thrown up in his garbage can during their interview, but he was desperate. He was really surprised that she was turning out to be the best assistant he had ever had. He rarely saw her, and thought she might actually be avoiding being in the same room as he was. Mandy literally ran when she sensed Damien approaching her desk. She had been having very erotic fantasies about her drop dead gorgeous boss, and was afraid he would pick up on it as well as her pregnancy if they were in close proximity. After Damien decided he had enough of her physical absence, he told his beautiful assistant she was to accompany him on a working vacation to the Caribbean. When they arrived in the beautiful locale, it didn't take long for lust to overcome both of them. They both admitted their attraction and agreement that anything that happened between them would end when they got home. Damien was surprised and intrigued when Mandy admitted she was going to have a baby. He suddenly found himself wanting things he knew he had no right to.

This was a sweet traditional romance. It is a good weekend read, but not one I would add to my personal library. What should have been an emotionally compelling story, the writing just missed the mark not drawing the reader in completely. Mandy and Damien thought they had met at absolutely the worst possible time. She was trying to get her life together, and be prepared for the baby she would be responsible for shortly. He was trying to forget his painful past unable to move beyond it. What they both failed to realize is that they were much better together than they could ever be apart.

Elizabeth Aspen spent many nights fantasizing about her sexy new neighbor. When he rescued her from a mugger, her fantasies didn't even compare to the flesh and blood man that rescued her. She couldn't believe this enigmatic man wouldn't leave her side until he was sure she was okay physically as well as emotionally. Liz wasn't surprised that she was incredibly drawn to him. Just his touch was enough to set her blood on fire, and she knew her raw reaction was not shock from the attack. In the subsequent days after the attack, they spent all their free time together exploring the incredible chemistry between them.

Sam Bolt had not ever felt the pull toward a woman that he felt just being around Liz. As an actress, she was so different than women he was normally drawn to, and he couldn't help wanting her every moment of every day, but he wasn't free to be with her. His job as a cop made any relationship difficult, but his driving need to get the drug dealer that ruined his brother's life had been in the forefront of his soul since he had been a teenager. His heart was at war with his head, and for the moment he didn't mind that his heart was winning. Sam craved everything that Liz was and represented. He lived in a sterile environment while she lived in a home, and he found himself not wanting to ever leave. When his past threatened Liz's life and future, he knew he would sacrifice anything to keep her safe.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. Sam is such a tortured man that has been living far too long in the past. Liz is just what he needs in his life to force his hand to live in the present. She also gives him the courage to make amends for and forgive himself for the past. The story is compelling, with very intense sensual encounters woven throughout. This story is well worth your time!

Talia can usually handle any situation that comes up at her Chelwood bar, but when the rodeo came to town, and her bar was packed to capacity, she was unprepared when unruly patrons got out of control. When two gorgeous cowboys stepped in and threw them out, Talia was grateful for the help. After she closed, as a thank you, she treated them to free drinks. Reb and Cody made no secret of their interest in her, and were quick to disclose that they did absolutely everything together.

This is a pretty good read for the short story it is. Since it is short, there isn't much allowance for any real character or story development. Reb and Cody are cowboy's traveling the rodeo circuit. They are used to being with many different women, but there is something about Talia that they know immediately is different.

Brett Haversham returned from the war a broken man. He like many that served sustained injuries, but his scars were on his heart. As crazy as it sounded, he had fallen hopelessly in love with a woman he could never have. He thought many times the only thing that saved him was hearing letters written by a woman he had never met. Anne Goode had become his lifeline, but she would never know how much she meant to him. She had belonged to another, and as much as it killed his soul, he had to keep his distance. Anything else would be a betrayal he couldn't live with.

Freddy Thorne has finally come home after a long absence to take the title of Duke of Ashland that he was born into. He was waging a war within. He had grown up with Anne, and loved her madly, but he also had feelings for his good friend Brett. He had been making sure Brett received the care he needed to fully recover from all his injuries, but there was still one wrong that he took upon himself to be set right. Brett needed to be united with the woman he knew his friend loved - his love, Anne. Freddy took it upon himself to arrange for them to all be in the same location so his plans could begin to unfold.

This is the next installment in the Brothers in Arms series. It is a pretty good story with some very sensual moments. We finally get the story of Freddy and Brett. They have been key characters in this series, and their story needed to be told. While I enjoyed their story, it was an enormous letdown that all the other characters we have grown to love were conspicuously absent. One of the elements I really liked about this series was that in every book, we got to catch up on the lives and loves of our hero's and heroine's.
