3.0 out of 5 stars annoying flaw, September 2, 2013
i have some trendnet cameras and i like them for their clear images (provided you use the focus ring) , clean interface, and higher than the competition's framerate (provided you get something similarly priced to compare). i particularly liked this one because of how clear the videos are in the dark in infrared mode (not blurry like my non trendnet cameras of similar class) and how zippy it was when panning/tilting !

HOWEVER there's a flaw in the built in software which had me downgrade this to 3 stars: the home preset

this camera allows you to create presets to different positions. by default it comes with preset 0 (home position) which is a dead center position - but one cannot edit said 'home' position. you can add additional presets but you cannot change the default home preset... which so far is fine... but if you have the camera aimed in a particular direction (different from the home position) for security reasons, and let's say you record that direction as a preset... guess what happens if you lose power and get it back? yup, goes back to the home preset which may not be the default direction you want the camera to boot to. and there's nowhere in the built in software to tell the camera to reboot to a different preset other than the home preset..and thus why i downgraded it to 3 stars. what's even more baffling is that i have an older pan/tilt by trendnet (tv-ip410w) whose built in software allows you to pick a preset to boot to in case of power loss or simple reboot... why that feature is not present in the most recent camera, i haven't a clue. so if i'm away on vacation and the camera reboots, this doesn't help me.

Update: trendnet support got back to me and confirmed that the camera does not support rebooting to a preset - only reboots to default home position :-(

Update: i went with a different brand for my next camera. this very simple software feature is too crucial for those of us who don't always have the luxury to affix all our cameras to the ceiling (which gives more positionng flexibility because of the 'foot/stand' but also involves additional cable routing and masking)

3.0 out of 5 stars padding? what padding?, February 1, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
as per the description, i ordered those thinking they would come with a rubber grip, alas it's just all metal, unlike the ones i had purchased at sports authority. other than that they work as they should. -2 stars for misleading description.

looks nice and feels solid. shout out to andy @ naples custom hitch for nudging the nissan dealership service mechanic into actually following the instructions and successfully installing the hitch on my 2011 murano le. dealership initially said this hitch wouldn't fit my car and i wasn't about to spring up $430+$350 labor on a nissan branded one. again, thanks andy !

4.0 out of 5 stars not everything works with it, November 6, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
works with my 32 gig class 10 adata microsdhc

does NOT work with my sandisk uhs-1 (class 10) 64 gig microsdxc - shows up as needing to be formatted (even though it's formatted as fat32 via ridgecrop gui formatter)

popping the 64 gig card into my transcend (ts-rdf8k) card reader worked fine, so -1 star for elago.

however, love the form factor, compactness and the led light is icing on the cake.

1.0 out of 5 stars Huge Security Flaw, April 12, 2012
As much as i love this camera, I cannot recommend it until they fix the alternate URL access to it. Apparently, the standard URL that most computer based security software use to access the Mole's video feed will be password protected when you enable the Astak to ask for a password. That URL is usually in the form (add IP to the camera first, since Amazon won't allow me to type in a full URL) "/livestream/0?action=play&media=video_audio_data" - However, after changing the access password on the camera, I was still able to access the video feed from my iPhone's video cam app, even though I had not updated the password on that app... So I rebooted the Astak and that changed nothing. By doing some investigating, I found out that my iPhone's app uses a different URL to access the feed (it uses "/tmpfs/auto.jpg") which itself does not require a password. Now imagine the security implications... disgruntled ex-employee, ex-boyfriend, nosy guest staying at house, etc..

Awaiting a fix for this.

PS: This review is for the CM-IP700 Mole

4.0 out of 5 stars unauthorized connections ? [addressed], July 6, 2011
pros:
- decent camera
- decent interface
- affordable price
- does not do the whole panning/scanning/patrolling thing at bootup which saves time

cons:
- beware! makes unauthorized outbound connections to 58.61.38.177 port 80 (which i've blocked - i don't need outsiders to spy on me at my house) [UPDATE: fixed by loftek, see update below]
- wide angle (convex) distortions
- no configuration backup/restore page as in most cameras (although the .cgi (same as in foscam) will send you the config if addressed directly via url)
- the really annoying blue strobe light, highly visible in the dark (white version)

UPDATE (2011-01-11): loftek has addressed the outbound connection issue by recently making a tool available on their site (SetDDNS) for changing those settings. kudos to them. i wish they'd include a readme with the tool to let people know what it's for. upgrading the ratings of the camera to 4 stars.
