3.0 out of 5 stars Terrible user interface, January 11, 2015
1. pretty to look at, well constructed
2. terrible user interface: confusing, even after reading an instruction booklet. they made the mistake of many newly digital appliances and made a row of identical buttons, each with different function, that must be used in particular sequences that are not intuitive.
3. this is a very slow slow-cooker. the "low" setting is so slow that it cannot cook beans overnight. the "high" setting does a decent job. i don't know what the low setting would be for. even at the high setting, very little bubbling can be seen.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mine Failed after 14 months, August 18, 2012
I bought last year's model, BD-6500, just 14 months ago, and it has failed (turns itself off after 1 minute, always).
Samsung customer support said I could get it repaired for $110. Not a very good offer. Instead, I will get a new player, and it will not be a Samsung.

5.0 out of 5 stars C++ for Java developers, February 17, 2006
Although Koenig does not mention Java in this book, clearly the richness of the Java API has influenced the evolution of C++. As a result, the way of programming in C++ has evolved to being more library-centric, that is, more API-based. Koenig gives a well-paced introduction to C++ as it is really practiced, using the most commonly used library classes. This seems exactly the right approach, and will certainly be of great use to developers who are already experienced in Java programming.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different way of cooking, November 6, 2001
I'm probably not the typical reader of this book. I like cooking, but only do cooking that takes very little time. Still, I learned a very useful philosophy of cooking from this book, "Chef in your Freezer." The philosophy is how to prepare some useful building blocks in order to have them on hand in the freezer. Then, it is much easier to make a good meal in a short time without cutting corners. This isn't a fast food cookbook, nor does quality suffer.
I particularly liked learning some interesting tricks in how to make polenta and risotto. I like to cook vegetarian, and found many delicious vegetarian recipes in these sections.
I'd highly recommend this book, to both beginning and advanced home cooks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful javascript guide to asp for developers, May 22, 2001
I found this book to be a well written guide addressed to an experienced developer who wants to learn ASP using Javascript (or jscript as microsoft calls it). The examples are of the right length and number.
