5.0 out of 5 stars If I had a choice between winning the lottery and owning this book..., February 2, 2011
You know, winning the Megabucks-Gazillionaire-Super-Wazoo-Lottery would be great wouldn't it...?

You take a few bucks every few days...pick some numbers:
Let's see...Aunt Tilly's Birthday is the 11th, so I'll pick 11...um...I'm 32 years old, so 32...um...69?...no...that's not a number available on the ticket...I have 5 puppies, so 5...and um...

ANYWAY...

So you go to the 7-11 and plunk down $10 worth of tickets to Apu at the register:
"Good luck sir...come again..."

...you wait a few days, and watch the drawing live on TV (that's how Hurley did it on LOST, right?)

"Will I win...? WILL I WIN THE $45 BAZILLION DOLLARS TONIGHT...?!?!?!?!?

No.
You will not.
And you just wasted another $10.
This happens twice a week.
That's $20 a week.

Why does this happen? Because there are NO guarantees in winning the lottery...in fact, you have an even better chance of a smoking-hot super-model knocking on your door asking if she can borrow a cup of marshmallows to stuff in her ears than you do at winning the lottery...

True fact.

You want a guarantee in life?
There's very FEW of those...

However...there is ONE guarantee I can say is 100% true:

Pop Culture Shock Therapy is THE ABSOLUTE FUNNIEST comic strip going on today, and maybe even the funniest EVER...you are guaranteed to laugh...you are guaranteed to tell friends about how funny it is...you are guaranteed to get more enjoyment for your hard earned dollar by purchasing this book than angrilly tearing up a lottery ticket and throwing your shoe at the TV screen when your numbers don't come up...and you are guaranteed to be hungry for more volumes of these collections to buy.

Like I said, very few things in life are guaranteed, but if that super-model does happen to come knocking on your door, you can sit with her on the couch eating marshmallows as you share loads of laughs by reading to her this hilarious collection of brilliant comic strips (super-models usually can't read on their own)...
...you may even get into her pants...but again, there's no guarantee of *that*...

best,

5.0 out of 5 stars A raunchy 80's CLASSIC...FINALLY!, July 19, 2009
This review is from: Screwballs [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I'm going to make this review short and sweet:
Before Superbad (which is excellent), there was this film from the 1980s...over-the-top, silly sex gags, totally immature, college guy-needs-to-sleep-with-hot-girls plot, and pure funny stuff...but it's got some DAMN clever writing...some that will make you laugh out loud...I've loved this film my entire life...If you liked the first "Revenge of the Nerds", or "Porky's", it's very similar...
Is it brain food? No...
Is it really funny? Hell yeah.

best,

5.0 out of 5 stars SIGN UP FOR *THIS* VERSION and tell the studio where to *STICK* the double-dip theatrical release version..., May 11, 2009
I am one of those buyers that love Blu-ray as a format, but have ZERO tolerance for double-dipping by the studios who have no respect for the average consumer...

Yes, I'd give a 5-star review for the films, but only for the best version of the films available, the extended cuts.

We all already have the extended cuts of the film on standard dvd, and all agree that it's WELL worth it to buy that version over the shorter theatrical versions...why would we DOWNGRADE from what we already own?

DO NOT BUY THE THEATRICAL RELEASE VERSION...!!!
Send a CLEAR MESSAGE to the studios that we're tired of this, and we the consumers are NOT going to deal with this type of behavior anymore...we will save our hard-earned money and hold out for the product we the consumers WANT...the extended cuts of the film on Blu-ray and nothing less...!!! And make no mistake folks, a little patience will go a long way to save YOU money, as just like the standard dvd releases, they WILL eventually release the extended cuts of the film on Blu-ray, but only AFTER they've milked the SUCKERS out of their money for those who must own "any" version of the film on blu-ray asap...but don't settle and don't be cheated...you work too hard for your money to spend it twice...hold out for the REAL VERSIONS of this film...only then maybe the studios will get our message loud and clear:

"WE ARE THE CONSUMERS, GIVE US WHAT WE WANT AND WE WILL GIVE YOU OUR MONEY, BUT TREAT US LIKE IDIOTS, AND YOU CAN INSERT THE DOUBLE-DIP THEATRICAL RELEASES WHERE THE SUN DOESN'T SHINE...! WE WANT THE EXTENDED CUTS OF LOTR AND WILL HOLD ONTO OUR CASH TIGHTLY UNTIL THEN...WE ARE *DONE* BEING FOOLS...PLEASE REMOVE YOUR FIST FROM OUR RECTUMS."

Now sign up to be notified of the release of the extended versions of these films...send the message clearly:
"WE'RE WAITING..."

thanks,

5.0 out of 5 stars Mankuta says: Don't ask...don't question...just buy it., April 19, 2009
Those that read my pre-review for the "Star Wars Trilogy on Blu-ray" (if you haven't read it yet, by all means, please DO...it's right at the top of the respective page...and it's pretty darn funny too...) know that I'm not one to *not* speak my mind on Sci-Fi stuff...

...but this time I'm going to do you a favor...a big one...

I'm going to simply say, that as much as I am a fan of the original BSG series of the 1970's (and yes, I really do love it, and yes, it's OKAY to like BOTH series), and this newer BSG has just about nothing in common with it, as it's a complete re-imagining of the series, I'm going to say as both a fan, and a TV professional, that based on my love of Sci-Fi, Fantasy (and comic books for that matter), as well as a huge appreciation of great acting, great casting, great special effects, and above all, great writing and consitantly excellent production values, that if there was ever ONE TV series that I can recommend to fans without question, it is this newer version of Battlestar Galactica.

Without hesitation...without question...without an afterthought of regret...

Best...series...ever.

I know it's not cheap, but I assure you, you'll thank me.

If you have a beautiful daughter between the ages of 18-27 with questionable moral values, you might even send her over to thank me.

If you have nobody in your family to leave a large cash/real estate inheritance to when you pass-away, you might even put my name in the will to thank me.

If you're in the casting-department of any future Battlestar Galactica-related shows, you might not throw my headshot/resume in the garbage and actually consider me for a role in a future project as a way to thank me.

If you accidentally hit the "buy it now" button twice, and now don't know who to give your extra set of BSG-The Complete Series (Blu-ray) to as a gift, you might just send it to me as a way to thank me.

So...Have you added it to your Amazon shopping cart yet?
Hurry up...pure bliss awaits...

I'll be at Comic-Con...and I'll save a seat for your beautiful daughter...

thanks,
JONATHAN MANKUTA (TV/Film actor, voiceover artist, producer, comic geek)

1.0 out of 5 stars NO REASON TO BUY THIS VERSION...WAIT FOR THE *EXTENDED* CUT..., April 16, 2009

5.0 out of 5 stars WHY NO BLU-RAY...?!?!?!??, March 21, 2009
This review is from: Caprica (DVD)
Okay, the good news is, we're being given an *option* here to see Caprica well-ahead of it's premiere date, AND in an extended version of the movie that we won't be seeing on the air...I myself, am very looking forward to it, as Battlestar Galactica was my very favorite show EVER, and if I get even a fraction of that enjoyment out of Caprica, it will be WELL worth it...HOWEVER...
WHY ON EARTH would there not at least be the *option* to buy this on Blu-ray especially considering how RABIDLY fans are looking forward to FINALLY getting the entire series of BSG on Blu-ray...? Who wants to buy this on standard DVD when we'd like to keep our series media uniform in one format, AND get the best possible viewing pleasure available, especially on a series-related show where the fans prefer to get it in high-def? Shows like BSG (and most modern sci-fi shows) are preferable in high-def. I myself don't mind a double-dip in buying this separately from the eventual season-1 box set in another year and a half (I have no regrets from buying Razor), but now that Blu-ray is AVAILABLE to these shows, why not make them AVAILABLE to the consumer...? With BSG coming out on Blu-ray, I feel cheated that the prequel isn't (so far) being offered in the same quality format...

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW...!!!! I mean...just...WOW...!!!!, May 26, 2007
I LOVE when rare 1970s cartoons get the DVD treatment, especially in full season box sets like this...seeing this set gives me hope that OTHER funny/forgotten cartoons that inspired todays favorites like Simpsonas and Family Guy will also be brought back into the hands of hungry buyers like myself...we've been seeing a HUGE flood of great old-school Saturday morning cartoon releases from various companys lately, and it feels GREAT...I'm DYING to see other fun 1970s shows like The Barkleys ("All in the Family" parody), Roman Holidays (like a Roman version of the "Flintstones"), Oddball Couple ("Odd Couple" parody), Carlton, Your Doorman (an animated TV special about the doorman from Rhoda), These Are the Days (sort of like a "Waltons" cartoon, well written...), and a few of the "licensed" properties such as Fantastic Voyage, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Tarzan, and Rocket Robin Hood...Saturday mornings can be fun again, just have to buy them all on DVD...i'm willing to...!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS version DESERVES to be watched because of the JACK "KING" KIRBY documentary bonus feature!!!!, March 20, 2007
I'll be honest...this movie doesn't need an "extended cut" version...sure it's a fine movie, but most of you already have an acceptable version of it, and an extra 20 minutes of footage is fine, but to most of us, not quite enough to justify buying an entire other DVD version of it...
So WHY am I reviewing this version of the DVD as a 5-star "MUST BUY" version? SOLELY because the "extras" DVD has a feature reflecting and honoring JACK "KING" KIRBY, the man/legend who co-created the entire Marvel universe (among other superheroes), with Stan Lee, but got almost NONE of the credit (or money) that Stan did...
KIRBY was a creative FORCE for both Marvel and DC comics over his lifetime career, and not only was he the world's greatest comic book creator and artist, but an amazingly warm, wonderful person, family man, and treated his fans as if they were close friends...never in the world was a man more deserving of a documentary than Kirby was, and while it should've been included in the original release, this feature alone is WELL worth watching and well worth as well the cost of buying this DVD...you will NOT be disappointed by watching the KIRBY documentary...he WELL deserves this honor, and it's VERY interesting for comic fans and non comic fans alike...

5.0 out of 5 stars WHERE IS THIS DVD BOX SET ALREADY? Somebody is missing the boat...., April 8, 2006
What the heck is taking this series so damn long to reach DVD as a nice box set, it was one of the most treasured series among the "GI Joe/Transformers/Thundercats" generations, and yet as amazingly well done, well written, well animated, as it was, there was NEVER a toy line, or serious merchandising as there could`ve been (even as an adult, i`d still LOVE a set of D&D action figures of the main characters)...

But for there to be DVDs of every other cartoon series of this generation EXCEPT this one (as well as the amazingly well done "Legend of Prince Valiant", which also deserves a box set of DVDs...easily...)is simply inexcusable...!!!!

What shocks me actually, is that the producer of this series is MARVEL ENTERTAINMENT, who is well known to whore-out just about everything for every little penny they can get, so it actually comes as quite a bit of a shock indeed...

What are they waiting for? Haven`t they seen by the popularity of every other DVD set so far of the best Saturday morning shows that sales are a no-brainer look at sales for "Battle of the Planets, Land of the Lost, GI Joe, Thundercats, Transformers, etc etc etc...). C`mon guys, WAKE UP AND SMELL THE MONEY....

I`ll be first on line...

I saw an actual boxed set in a record store the other day of the "complete series", but it was made for "outside the USA dvd players"...it LOOKED like a professional release, not a cheap bootleg, so I was REALLY pissed...I want a box set for the good `ol USA...anybody else have any thoughts?
