Cracker, a book by Cynthia Kadohata tells the story of a German shepherd who is paired with Rick Hanski and their mission to sniff out threats against U.S. troops. The story tells of the common bond between man and his dog and what they must endure to ensure each other's survival to make it back home. Along the way, they must endure perilous missions that mean loss of life that neither man nor dog will forget and will be engrained in them forever. 3.0 out of 5 stars Lord of the Nutcracker Men Review, October 16, 2011
Lord of the Nutcracker Men was an enjoyable book that one can read in an afternoon. The book is set in the early onset of Worl War I in England. It revolves around a young boy and his army of nutcracker men. He fights the battles with his nutcracker men while his father fights the real battles on the battlefield. The battles that are fought with the nutcracker men are strangly coming true on the real battlefield. Is it possible that a little boy is controlling the outcome of World War I? The book, although fiction, sticks to the main facts of World War I in dealing with what battles were fought and the Christmas Truce of 1914. It is a good read for anyone who has an afternoon free to sit down and relax and enjoy a good book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sarah's Ground, October 9, 2011
This review is from: Sarah's Ground (Hardcover)
Sarah's Ground is shown through the life of a young lady who is bound and determined to live an independent lifestyle. What better place to do that than lie about your age and get the job of caretaker of Mt. Vernon, the home of the first president. She there encounters the trials and tribulations of dealing with keeping the place safe while the American Civil War rages around her, not to mention having to deal with the day to day needs of the workers who work for her and a Southern Gentleman who she may have fallen for. Through out all of this, she somehow manages to keep Mt. Vernon neutral from the war and to keep it what it is today.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cast Two Shadows Review, September 24, 2011
Cast Two Shadows was a good read. It portrays a young girl named Caroline and her fight within herself to try and stay loyal to the crown of England. She has a hard time doing this with all of the things the British have done to her family and her friends. I also liked how the author used actual people from the American Revolution to make her book more life like for the reader as if to the person that was reading the book was right behind Caroline in her struggle to choose sides. the book provides real life scenarios of events that very well could have happened during the American Revolution. The book has the tendancy to want you to keep reading just to see what happens on the next page.
