5.0 out of 5 stars Just do it., July 13, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Possibly the best product I've ever purchased for motorcycling. Aside from the obvious benefit of having music in the helmet, it also allows me to communicate. (Obvious). Haven't had any issues with the unit itself. I did have a microphone go out after riding in a monsoon for 5 hours (it finally had enough, everything was wet, might as well have dropped it in a cup of tea...) Can share music as well as phone calls. Range is line of sight, and slightly less than anticipated, but still within most reasonable boundaries for group riding.
Never had any pairing issues, but there is a slight learning curve to figure out how to get it to do whatever you are trying to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars OEM Plugs for BMW GSW/GSAW, July 13, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These are the OEM plugs for my 2014 BMW R1200GSA (should fit any water boxer motor). Runs like a champ! Kept the old plugs "just in case". The plugs are deep in the motor, you'll need a 14mm thin walled spark plug socket to get them out. I picked up one by Motion Pro at my local b&m, no issues, and definitely cheaper than the factory tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars I CAN SEE THE FUTURE, June 22, 2015
We purchased this TV after viewing it in store, from the big yellow retailer. It was convenient to do it this way because the geeks could mount it to the wall and we didn't really have to fuss with that aspect of it.
Out of the box it had firmware version 1210. It logged right on to the wifi and literally within minutes we were logged into our Netflix account and watching the selection of 4k UHD content. Simply amazing and worth every penny. No issues with that, later on in the day we signed up with DirecTV. There was a pamphlet in the box to save some money on that, so being prior DTV customers, we decided to have another go at it.

There is some confusion. Being a 2015 model, its not listed on DTV's website as being a "DTV 4k Smart TV" enabled device... They only list the 2014 models. Depending on who you talk to, this is also the case. No data, but tier 1 tech support says they have it on a list. Samsung's tech support says it'll work fine, they have it on a list as well. The truth?
On Firmware 1210, the RVU feature does not work. Its not DTVs fault, the Samsung is programmed to say "We're Sorry, This cool new feature will be available soon"... That was last week. Over the course of the week as of 6/19/15, the TV has done some firmware updates and is now running version 1218. The RVU feature works just fine.
To enable the RVU, you have to have the TV on a wired CAT5e or CAT6 ethernet connection, connected to a DECA Broadband 2 unit. This provides a "private" network via the coax cables connected between the DECA BB2 unit, the HR44 set top box reciever, and the SWiM reciever on the satellite dish. A power injector and requisite power supplies for the HR44 and DECA BB2 are also required. (Not Wireless as some may think). It does it this way to establish its own LAN for the high bandwidth required to stream 4k content from DTV. The 4K pay per view content (and one or two free documentaries) on DTV will only go via RVU because the Genie (HR44) and Mini-Genie will not output 4k via HDMI.
To recap, for the RVU you need to have DTV install a Genie HR44 whole home system, there needs to be a coax line run somewhere to a DECA BroadBand 2 model which converts the coax signal to Ethernet (Cat5e or Cat6) which then plugs into the TV.

Did I mention, RVU works just fine now that we are on the 1218 Firmware version? Oh its amazing. Also, Smart HUB still works, because the HR44 has a wireless LAN connection to our home internet and acts as a pass through for internet service for the TV. So we still get all the apps and Netflix and Youtube.

Paired with a Samsung Wireless HW-J550 soundbar, its unbeatable. The picture is so crisp it makes my eyes bleed. Regular content, upscaled 1080p, via RVU or PS3 or PS3 Blueray, is so crisp it still makes my eyes bleed. That's the incredible part. It upscales 1080p so well you wouldn't even notice the difference, and then when you play 4K content, its like you can see the future. So far we've watched the Smurfs 2 in UHD, and you can see the difference.

We watched the Lego Movie in 1080p, off a thumbdrive plugged into the USB Port in the back. All the codecs are there, and my library of movies are supported. This was exceptionally incredible, as our last TV wasn't this detailed and you can see every imperfection in the plastic.

The screen is bright, and is perfectly visible in the daytime. The screen is a matte anti glare screen but not obnoxiously so, and does a very good job of presenting a crisp image without using a glare producing glassy screen.

The Samsung motion software in here does a good job filtering and smoothing pictures, and is left set at standard or off. Judder is very minimal, if noticable, and only then is only noticable during extremely fast high motion sequences. When set to smooth or a higher setting presents minor artifacts which I found to be distracting.

It does present the "soap opera effect" when set at standard, and this effect is reduced when the motion filtering is turned off. This is noticeable on most HD or 4k content, and not very noticeable for some content which is 720p up-scaled. Non-HD channels still present nicely and could be considered "par" for the course in an HD world.

If you're thinking about jumping on this 4k hype train, I'd say go for it. Now, the jury is still out on curved TV's, I found the SUHD version of this Samsung to be a bit distracting in the store, and obviously bought the flat version. Totally worth every penny.

The glass and wood are very well made, as well as the mirrored bottom. The glass cube is open on bottom and lifts straight off, but given an adult environment, this is fine. If you wanted to seal the cube you could add hot glue to the bottom edge. Comes with a holder for a baseball.

4.0 out of 5 stars Its great, but its not perfect, February 12, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I like it, alot. The ceramic is nice and it arrived in good condition. The unit is very simple to assemble. The filter goes in the box with the pump, and that sits in the bottom of the bowl. The top piece sits on that. The alignment of the top piece to the filter box is not perfect, but the important part is to set the top piece down, askew, and let the pump output rest in the rubber tube, then slide the top into position where it sits on the ceramic bowl.
So far, the offset in the alignment isn't a problem, and the pipe is in the rubber tube, everything works even with a small gap on one side. The pump noise is minimal, you can just barely hear it whirring away. It makes some water noise as well, and we find it to be pleasant.
There are a few things which the company could do to make the product better, such as extending the length of the rubber tube, or making the plastic pump/filter case fit better, or bringing the pipe up. out of all these, if I have to make any repairs, it would be a simple addition of some plastic flex tubing to raise the pump output. We'll give it a few days, but so far so good. And not bad for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Note 3 Slim Armor VIEW case, January 18, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'm reviewing my 12 hour experience with the Note 3 Slim Armor View Case. This is the case, (matt black) specifically with the s-view lid. My experience was only 6 hours because the S-view function does not work 100% (as advertised) and I decided that the tech in this case wasn't ready, especially with rumored changes to the s-view experience.

Source: xda forum thread on the Spiegen Note 3 Slim Armor View, and 6 hours I endured this case on my Note 3.

First of all, craftsmanship is everything you would expect from SGP. Right up until the point where the S-View doesn't function. It works at first, then after use, it doesn't work or sometimes, it doesn't work first off, then starts working. Typically works when you first put it in the case, then after an hour, stops working. All totally irregular, and not reproducible in any instance. Typically it works when you first put the phone in, pull the phone out and put it in, or shut down the phone (power off) then turn it back on again (not restart).

S-View works because of an IC chip in the rear, which signals the phone that its wearing an S-View. Then via some other method, whether that is a pin magnet in the lid somewhere, or using the sensors, it detects when the lid is closed and performs the S-view routine.

When the S-view was working, it will detect closure when the clasp touches the case and begins to engage. When the S View is not working, well, it just doesn't work.

My phone is a stock unit running Android 4.3, build jss15j (n900VVRUBMJE), hardware n900V.07 (Verizon).
I have a tempered glass screen protector. And I am running normal apps which you can download off the Play store. no custom roms or sideloads.

When s-view was working, it worked. The pins in the back are huge. Once they drop into the holes in the phone, there is no question that they are not making contact or being mis-aligned.

Clues are that when it stops working, if you turn the phone off and turn it back on again, it works perfectly until it stops working. This can take an hour or two, or this can take 5 minutes.

At the end of the day, alot of people say it works perfectly, and there are those who are having issues. My review of this product in this application is - unreliable. I have not been able to have reliable performance of the S-view functions. which is why I purchased this case in the first place. to have the s-View functionality while protecting the face of the phone in my work environment.

If you don't care if the S-view works or not, the this is great. The case is a grease magnet (if you just ate a burger and licked your fingers, do not touch the case). other than that, the fit and finish is great, and the fit with a glass screen protector is great.

The lid clasp it great, but not overbearing, and the lid folds to the back. Cannot really use it as a stand, and if you have it folded to the back, the thing sits level for the most part. Lid is removable, and a good way to remove and replace the lid is to remove the phone and then remove the rubber tpu insert. Lid hing removes completely, nearly falls off.

There are some rumors out there that the KitKat update will push everyone's S-View function to check for Samsung IC, and this will cause the S-View to not work if there is unauthorized hardware. I'll post a picture of the IC off XDA

1.0 out of 5 stars Great idea, horrible product, January 2, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Looks great on paper. Horrible idea. The markers don't really work as intended, either spatters horribly or doesn't really put out any significant amount of coverage. The air pump works great, but doesn't store enough air to do anything useful. basically the parent has to continually pump it to get it to behave like an airbrush... its more of a suggestion that it could be an airbrush but it totally misses the mark and creates more difficulty than it seems worth.

on the upside, we totally have some markers now.

Icon Variant Construct Helmet (White/Black, X-Large)

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this helmet, January 2, 2014
TL;DR- Best helmet i've ever owned, its quiet, fits well, looks great, is aerodynamically proper, and the optics are the cat's meow. Don't like the breath-box accessory, and the visor is a pain in the ass - be careful, don't break the tiny plastic bits or cut yourself (source: i cut myself and almost broke the tiny plastic bits)...

Coming from an O'Neil Tirade helmet (which was nice, with its micro suede interior, and novelty bluetooth system which was more of a novelty than functional), an older HJC, and an older Icon Mainframe, the Variant Construct is a definitive step up. Granted the O'Neil was well used and has seen its fair share of miles, it was 'just time' to buy a new lid.

Size and pressure points-

The XL fits nice, with the top of the helmet and the back of the head feeling very nice. Pressure points for me (due to my face being more 'round') are in the cheek pads, which will either wear in or I'll buy smaller cheek pads to get the right fit. Very agressive rake due to the 'adventure' style of the helmet is possibly contributing to this, but I recall my last ICON had a similar fit, nice and tight around the base of the neck ( with the ear thing putting the lid on and off) and very snug in the cheeks. The helmet seems to come on and off easier by tipping the head up and rolling the helmet on from front to back, vice tipping the head forward and rolling the helmet on from back to front... Have not tried with headphones yet, but while the helmet is on, there seems to be the perception of a good amount of room around the ears and even distribution of padding all the way around from ear to ear.

I bought the breath box just to check it out because here in California, I can ride to work in the wintertime in 35 degree weather and it seems like the right idea. That unfortunately did not work out, as it is not adjustable, and did not sit on the bridge of my nose when installed in the helmet.

Visors -

Variant Construct came with a Dark Smoke, and Clear Visor, along with the 'tool' to install the visor (not a 'quick change' thing. I would not want to do this in the field without a bench.)
The piece that the visor snaps into is very picky (and notice they sell spares in case you break it, this piece here, the 'Pivot Kit' Shield Variant Street Motorcycle Accessories ) . You need to be precise when fitting the new shield, else you would crush the tiny plastic guide on the visor, or bend and misalign the pivot rail, messing up the detents which help the visor 'pop' into the next position.
barely cracked is a good spot to have the visor, and the next 'detent' is half open, which interferes with vision (alot). Full open is great, don't notice it.

Chin curtain - is a pain to install but once its on there, it's "on there" and that's where I like it. There was considerable effort to get the curtain installed properly with the plastic bits shoved in the right spot under the trim and moulding. blocks the wind rather well. In conjunction with the 'breath box' turned that little spot into a ecosystem of its own and isolated well from everything.

Sound level - Noticeably quiet. Lots of high freq noise damped out of the helmet, and is definitely quieter than my O'Neil, and previous helmets i've owned (HJC, an older ICON Mainframe).

Airflow - Seems to be good, and in all the right places. And its cold out right now so I've got a few of the vents closed, which works as well.

Aero - Believe it or not, this helmet is amazing. There is literally no drag from the visor, and the lid sits neutral with no lift and no strain or stress. So I said "literally" no drag, and thats right. At highway speeds, there is no drag, and minimal visor drag when you turn your head, but it is not alot, really its not. if you sit up and look up, then yes, there is some drag, but once you put your head down and get on it a little, no drag. The difference being noticable, but if you're getting on it, tucking in a bit does wonders. So for the upright and standard guys, you've got nothing to worry about as long as you're not hauling the mail at 80mph. For the sport guys, tuck it in a little and 105 is no different than any other lid.

If looks could kill, this helmet would be on the list. and all the other sportbike guys at work are jealous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great visor, January 2, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Great quality. Item arrived in a box, with a shrink-wrap protective plastic over the shield. So aside from the normal efforts at fitting the shield to the helmet (with a Variant, you know, there is some assembly required), it is great. The tint is not as gold as the image depicts it to be. But it is definitely awesome. The Helmet came with the clear and the Dark Smoke. This is great middle ground. Had a good ride home from work, at 'dusk' and did not have any problems.
