5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating comparison of South Africa and Argentina, past and present, May 2, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As a former South African who has spent time in Argentina, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the two countries through the former Ambassador's eyes. His descriptions paint a vivid picture of life and the issues facing Argentina, comparing and contrasting them with those facing South Africa. Leon shares his broad knowledge of the history and background of both countries in a way that helps any reader understand the current situation. I felt like an insider as he shared the unique and amazing situations only an ambassador could experience.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not work for me, March 24, 2013

I was really hopeful based on other reviews but can not recommend The Almond. It did not extend the range at all in my house.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can finally have a full bath!, May 31, 2012

Works as described. Although there are gaps between the suction cups, the physics of water keep it out. I can finally have full baths!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little tripod, and magnetic!!!, May 31, 2012

This thing is amazing. It's super light, doesn't need to screw in every time (so I can keep the camera safely in its case), and sticks to so many surfaces. It's magnetic on the bottom as well as on the attachment side, so you can mag-tach it to a railing, some cars, backs of chairs, and -once- a salt shaker. You can set it to any angle and it doesn't flop out of place.

I have a Canon S100 and had no issues with balance or attachment. It comes with two types of attachments for the magnet - screw and stick - and both are fine. A really excellent product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling nonfiction, December 7, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I found "The Red Market" enthralling from location 1. The chapters, adapted from the author's previous essays, are heart-wrenching, showing how humanity's noble goals often result in the mistreatment, coercion, and even death of other (poorer) humans. Humanity is really so incredible and so, so terrible. The book details how humans are used (or use themselves) for their spare parts to try to escape poverty, while middlemen and brokers market their sacrifices as "donations". Carney examines both sides of the market - the consumers who want kidneys, babies, and blood, and the usually impoverished individuals who are paid to give them up (plus the conniving middlemen who are out to make one hell of a buck). It also has a great bibliography for further reading.

My only problem was with the kindle edition, which had some punctuation errors.
