3.0 out of 5 stars OK content, OK price, December 29, 2014

It's a known fact this publisher adds false notes on the scores (usually, so they can get the rights cheaper). Also, the printing quality is not that good either, but all in all, it's a great, big tome for an ok price. Excellent for students.

4.0 out of 5 stars STOP REVIEWING ITEMS THAT AIN'T OUT YET!!!, July 3, 2008
If you want to write a review about the movie only, please do it on the "Theatrical release" product page.

Leave this page to talk about the Blu Ray when it actually comes out, and then review the product as an overall package, aspect ratio, extras, transfer quality, audio, packaging, languages & subtitles, etc.

Most people already know the movie, but even the people who don't know it, don't want to read an essay about its alleged meaning --there are other places for that - IMDB, for example.

So until the BD arrives, please refrain to post any more "reviews" of a product you don't own yet. Hopefully this comment will get pushed down with REAL product reviews when the day comes.

Have a question about this release? Scroll down, you'll find forums to ask and people glad to help you. Want to review the movie and its cultural context and whatnot? Go to IMDB or the Theatrical release here on Amazon. Thanks.

3.0 out of 5 stars GREAT movies, but FOX dropped the ball hard, July 1, 2008
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First, let me start by saying I love the Die Hard movies. So when I saw this collection on BD, I just couldn't refuse!

You already know the movies, so let's get to the overall package.

Positives:
+ DTS MA on every movie that really reinvigorates the films
+ Good set of extras, not a single feature from the standard DVDs is left out, making you think these are the definitive versions to have
+ Special box saves you space on shelf and keeps discs safe. It's a little bigger than the Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series [Blu-ray] boxset (without the slipcase).
+ Exactly the same discs as individual releases, so you're not getting gimped versions of the already released BD movies --they're the same.
+ Live Free or Die Hard is a total show-stopper, demo material, A+ reference disc. Both in terms of video and audio, this is one of the best movies to showcase what High Definition is all about (and the movie itself is a great ride, btw)

Negatives:
- In the first three movies, both subtitles and dubs in spanish are CASTILLIAN, not Latin American. Why on earth did FOX included castillian dubs/subs on an AMERICAN, region locked disc, goes beyond me. They should know by now that most latin people HATE the castillian dubbing, specially when these movies have such great voice acting. Granted, I always prefer to watch movies in their original languaje w/subs, but there's always the chance to borrow or watch the movie with people that prefer to hear it in their own language. Even the regionalized castilian subtitles are distracting. This is not a problem on the 4th movie. The voice acting and subs are the way they should be for an american release.
- The first 2 movies look downright awful, to the point it seems you put the SE DVD and upconverted it. Time is totally not an excuse: just look at the impressive video quality of Batman: The Movie [Blu-ray]: a 40 yo movie that looks absolutely fantastic (more than it deserves, if I may be so bold). And that flick is probably just being released to make a quick buck on the batman fever, so FOX, you're telling me you couldn't give a AAA movie such as Die Hard a proper transfer? Come on...
- The 3rd movie looks way better, but still does not compare to the visual blast that is Live Free or Die Hard.
- The 4th movie is the theatrical, PG-13 version, not the UNRATED one. Again, what's going on here! Simply put, FOX could have put both version on the same disc via seamless branching. This has been a reality since the days of DVD, and there are a couple BD that have this feature already, so NO excuse.
- The special features on every disc are Standard Def. only to the point most of them look like VHS (this is no exaggeration). Not a single drop of remastering love (let alone HD treatment) has been poured on even the alternate endings.

Bottom line? This is looking like a future double dip. If you don't care for extras or hearing the movies in a language other than English, this will probably suit you fine, even without the unrated cut of Live Free or Die Hard.

However, this is far from being the Definitive version of the movies to have, to the point of getting me wondering if FOX actually knows the fact that this edition of the movie should be the one for all the american continent. Moreso, I'm left guessing if they care about what their public wants: both their High Definition users and their non-north american audience.

3.0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE!! Two different compilations under the same name! - And a rather lazy compilation, April 12, 2008
This review is from: Pure Acoustic (Audio CD)
There are two albums listed under the name "Pure Acoustic". Both include 2 CDs. Amazon lists the same tracklist for both, but this is a mistake on Amazon's part. Here's the deal:

Pure Acoustic - The one with the blue cover of a guitar, starts the tracklisting with Cat Stevens, Bob Marley and older artists (say, 80's and before). This is the tracklisting featured on Amazon for both albums, but only applies on this one (check the cover!), and is priced $51.49.

Pure Acoustic - The one with the creamy cover and two red silhouettes includes modern artists such as Radiohead and Coldplay (say, 90's to current day). Since this review gets published on both products, I'll go ahead and put the tracklist of this album for you:

Disc One:
1. Jack Johnson - Breakdown
2. James Blunt - High
3. Coldplay - Fix you
4. Keane - Somewhere only we know
5. Snow Patrol - Run
6. Blur - For Tomorrow
7. R.E.M. - The One I Love
8. Athlete - Wires
9. Ben Harper - Diamonds on the Inside
10. Matt Costa - Cold December
11. G. Love - Booty Call
12. ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) - Girl I wanna lay you down
13. Ryan Adams - Wonderwall
13. Rufus Wainwright - California
14. Doves - Willow's Song
15. Suzanne Vega - Marlene on the Wall
16. Paul Weller - You do something to me
17. Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees
18. Oasis - Stop Crying your hearth out

Disc Two:
1.John Lennon - Love
2. KT Tunstall - Heal Over
3. Katie Melua - Nine Million Bicycles
4. Norah Jones - Come away with me
5. Joss Stone - Fell in love with a boy
6. Donovon Frankenreiter - It don't matter
7. Corinne Bailey Rae - Enchantment
8. Richard Ashcroft - Break the night with colour
9. Stephen Fretwell - Emily
10. Nerina Pallot - Dear frustrated superstar
11. Feist - Mushaboom
12. Air - All I need
13. Röyksopp - What else is there?
14. Dirty Vegas - Days go by
15. Turin Breakes - Painkiller
16. Soundgarden - Black hole sun
17. Nickelback - How you remind me
18. Bernard Fanning - Wish you well
19. José González - Heartbeats

As for the review:

Overall, a tipical record label "quick-buck" album: songs are taken straight from the original albums (some songs even have the mixed intro of the last song -they're not even the 'Single' versions). If you already have the original albums of the artists, there's nothing new for you here, make a playlist instead and you'll have *exactly* the same product.

And, as you might have guessed by now, this is definitely NOT "Pure acoustic" songs. Taken straight from the albums, they're as acoustic as their original editions, meaning you'll hear the electro guitar on "Fix You" and "Black Hole Sun", and even some synths on "Somewhere only we know" and "Wires".

Recommended only if you don't have any of this artists' original works. If you already have them, and expect to find a special, rare, acoustic version of that-one-song-you-always-liked (in my case, "Black Hole Sun"), move on, there's nothing here. It's a shame, really.

4.0 out of 5 stars Please review the PRODUCT, not the movie itself., March 22, 2008
This review is from: Lost Highway (DVD)
People, PLEASE don't continue writing book-lenghted reviews for the movie itself instead of writing them for the PRODUCT shown here. You go even as far as doing a total interpretation of it. Jeez, there are forums for that, go to IMDB for example...

When I read a review from a DVD, I expect yes, maybe a little from the plot and some quick rating of the film itself, but more than anything else, I want to see info on the Special Features (what they are, what's their lenght), Video & Audio quality (standalone and compared to other editions), Language and subtitle subtitle options, insert... THE WHOLE PRODUCT AS A PACKAGE. Not an essay on how the movie was meant to be interpreted.

And you cannot review this edition until it actually comes out and you see it first hand, right? That's what I though. Thanks.
