1.0 out of 5 stars Arouses passionate feelings of hate and annoyance, March 13, 2014

Requires tons of strength or leverage to fold over. Is designed in such a way that you can't really mount it securely and fold it over at the same time. I think I might be able to modify mine using a grinder so that it'll actually work, but I think that just throwing this piece of trash into the garbage will be a better approach.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate book on making ice cream, January 13, 2014

David Lebovitz is the master of ice cream making, and a personal hero of mine. Go check out the wealth of information on his website, and buy this book! His ideas on strawberry sour cream ice cream and strawberry frozen yogurt alone are worth the purchase, but the way he details how to cook custard-based ice creams is second to none.

This poncho really exceeded my expectations. It's larger than I expected, it's quite warm and thick. And the design is really cool and has high contrast. Highly recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. A terrific story, great message, wonderful ending. Engaging characters. Fascinating ideas on bioengineering. Can't wait for more awesome things from Mr. Landstrom. A thoughtful and innovative imagining of a future world. Hopefully some day he'll do more books set in this world. His biology background shows through and makes for some fascinating reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not evil as the title suggests, but fascinating and practical, February 2, 2011
My ex-girlfriend was a touchy-feely people person, a trainer by trade. She often cited this book as being straight from the devil, the antithesis of everything she believed in with regard to motivating people. So I bought the book as a joke, to annoy her with its presence on my bookshelf. As I discovered later, she had never actually read it, it was merely the concept suggested by the title that offended her.

Then I started reading it one day, and it actually has a ton of really fantastic business and sales ideas that are not evil at all. Turns out that the book is full of practical ideas regarding how to present yourself in a positive light that helps motivate people to want to deal with your business. The thesis of the book is that for your business to succeed, you need to project an image of success and confidence. The book goes through dozens of specific ways to do this, and asking for more money is one of those. Others include specific ideas on how to present and package the company.

The author discusses the issue of pricing and payment extensively. I highly recommend this book for anyone contemplating issues of pricing their products and interacting with customers. It's honestly not as evil as it sounds. And even if the very idea sounds terrible, consider the book anyway. As Aristotle said, "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Valuable Non-Fiction Book I Own, November 22, 2010
This book goes above and beyond what you might expect from the title. The advice is practical, not obvious, and inspiring. I bought the book expecting that it'd be loaded down with obvious ideas, and fluff, but I figured if it had a couple of gem ideas in there it'd be worth the price of admission. Boy, was I surprised and blown away! The material is very practical. If I had to go out and sell one book, this would be the one I'd pick. That's because it's so easy to love the ideas in here. And they're applicable to all kinds of things, not just game design.

Literally every time I open this book, I end up jotting down 5 awesome ideas every few pages. I could only read a few pages at a time because I would end up getting sidetracked with the new mind-altering possibilities and thoughts it has inspired.

I can't imagine how someone could be disappointed with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best way to get started with Android, September 5, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
You can get through the book in a weekend. I took a couple of cross-country flights, read the book on the way there and on the way back. After getting home, had my first android app running within an afternoon. The book won't be the end of your journey on figuring out how to do things, but it's a tremendously good place to start.

The book is introductory, really. It merely touches on a lot of areas. If you get serious about developing on Android, you'll need to do a lot more research. But the book is designed to just get you started, and hold your hand over the hardest part: getting basic control of what you're doing and getting started. It does this wonderfully, and so for that I give it 5 stars.

This is for version 1.5, and today we're at version 2.2. I wouldn't worry about this too much. This book is all about getting you up and running quickly, and it does that. It will give you what you need to get running and figure out for yourself what's different in later versions. Also keep in mind that many devices out there are still on version 1.5 (for a while longer anyway), so you may want to be developing back to this version anyway.

If you expect it to be the last book you'll ever need and your one stop shop for all things Android, you'll be disappointed. But to do that, the book would have to be overwhelmingly large. So get this book and take it for what it is: the perfect way to get started with developing on Android.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy, September 4, 2008
I could not get mine to work at all. It comes with an astonishingly large and complex instruction manual, one big enough to keep me busy for hours wondering if maybe I didn't do something right.
