5.0 out of 5 stars A hidden gem among the Fox war classics!, March 3, 2007
This review is from: Sailor of the King (DVD)
I caught this movie on American Movie Classics a few years ago and

hoped that one day it would be made available on DVD. Jeffrey

Hunter, a very underrated actor in one of his first starring roles,

is a Canadian sailor in England's Royal Navy. It is World War Two, and

his ship is hunting for a much-feared German battlecruiser. When his ship engages the cruiser in battle, the cruiser is damaged and his ship is sunk. He is taken prisoner aboard the German ship, and when the ship pulls into a remote island harbor for repairs, he escapes to the

island armed with a rifle and plenty of ammunition. He devises a plan

to shoot at the repair crews as they try to fix the ship, to delay

their departure. Doing that will give other Royal Navy ships time

to zero in on the cruiser's location and sink them.

A very good movie with a very satisfying ending...look for a pre-James

Bond Bernard Lee in a fine supporting role.

"Sailor of the King"...with a movie title like that, you can't go wrong.

Thanks, Fox!! Keep these greats coming!

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this season of LIS!, December 11, 2004
As an avid fan of LIS from day one, I enjoyed all three seasons

of the show. I agree with another reviewer of season #2 that it

was fun and interesting, not stupid as some claimed. However, for

those with a negative impression of the show based on what they saw of season #2 or what they've heard, watch season #3. Irwin Allen decided on a more serious treatment for #3 which was more in the spirit of season #1. The result was at least three of the

best episodes of the series: "Visit to a Hostile Planet", in which the Robinsons were propelled through a time warp to Earth

of 1947, fifty years before their voyage started; "Condemned of Space" in which the Jupiter 2 lands on a prison ship, and "The Anti-Matter Man" featuring awesome performances by Mark Goddard and especially Guy Williams portraying their anti-matter selves.

True, this season did contain the infamous "The Great Vegetable

Rebellion" with a talking man-carrot, but stupid though it may seem, my advice is JUST HAVE FUN WITH IT!

Buy this season and enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars True Brian fans shouldn't be disappointed, February 27, 2000
This review is from: Imagination (Audio CD)
Any true fan of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys recognizes that the main reason Brian flipped out years ago is that he started to think people expected him to turn out a "masterpiece" every time he wrote a song. After reading some of these reviews of "Imagination", I can see why he might have seen it that way (Yes "Fans", Brian is a fallible human being like everybody else, who on occasion, will write a song that won't fill you with rapture!). Real fans of Brian recognize and love him for what he was and is: Quite simply, an extremely talented composer who has enabled people to dream beautiful dreams for over 30 years (people who simply enjoy his songs without worrying about whether or not they're works of art). My review? If you agree with every word I've written, then you should like "Imagination" a whole lot!
