2.0 out of 5 stars I loved these IEMs at first, January 9, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I loved these IEMs at first. The base tuning is an awesome feature, the sound is warm and for the most part balanced, and the sound stage is excellent. I am very disappointed that only two weeks into light use the left ear bud is beginning to malfunction. The volume is dramatically lower in the left ear bud than in the right. I really expected more quality assurance when buying a pair of headphones at this price point. Hopefully I can get this issue resolved ASAP and have them repaired or replaced quickly by Sennheiser.

really bright and indistinguishable from incandescent, other than they flicker a bit on regular dimmers...and replacement dimmers are about $ 30.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overlooks existing methods for quantifying information value, January 6, 2014
It seems the authors may have overlooked methods that Gartner has published and employed with clients to quantitatively measure the value of their information assets, and others for quantifying over a dozen distinct data quality measures. As part of Gartner's originating research on "infonomics" (see: [...] these methods have been used to create supplemental balance sheets that help organizations manage information as an actual asset, prioritize/budget/justify IT and business initiatives, and claim premium corporate valuations. Others too have posited information valuation approaches, e.g. Douglas Hubbard (who is referenced only in the context of information risk).

Otherwise the book is a fine treatment of EIM and data quality principles, especially those already detailed in previous books by John Ladley and Thomas Redman. Yes, the risk aspects of information certainly should be a key component of any information related initiative today, but I personally found the TIRM process to be a bit obvious and simplistic--other than the requisite introduction of Monte Carlo method for quantifying risk. Still, for most in the IM profession, I'd recommend at least a skim through the book for usable nuggets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, what power and range for such an inexpensive set, December 24, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Blown away by its range, esp the low end crispness. A bit bright in the middle range, but probably due to them not being in-ear or surrounding ear. Comfy and tight but not too tight. TBD how they hold up to being tossed around in a gym bag, but I'm apt to get a backup set for this price.

3 Steps to Your Job in the USA: International Student Edition
3 Steps to Your Job in the USA: International Student Edition
by Steven Steinfeld
Edition: Paperback
Price: $17.99
22 used & new from $12.24

5.0 out of 5 stars One of a kind book for international students, December 22, 2013
Being on the advisory board of a leading university, we often discuss how international students have a tendency to perform at the highest level academically, but are not being prepared well enough to enter the US job market. Learning and experiencing many of the nuances of American business culture are just not part of the educational system. Nor are the pleasantries and manners expected of job candidates by recruiters. Finally, searching for jobs is nothing at all like it was 10 or 20 years ago. Mr. Steinfeld, however, through copious research with recruiters, job placement professionals and international students themselves, has developed sage advice, solid guidance and a well-honed approach for these students. Any international students NOT picking up a copy of this book will find themselves at a serious disadvantage in landing employment--regardless their A+ grades or stratospheric test scores.

Socrates Reloaded: The Case for Ethics in Business & Technology
by Frank Buytendijk
Edition: Paperback
Price: $14.00
25 used & new from $10.80

5.0 out of 5 stars Made me feel terribly stupid...then much smarter!, August 23, 2013
Mr. Buytendijk weaves together the concepts of philosophy and information technology (IT) like perhaps no one else but he is capable. By applying the thoughts of great thinkers he offers a whole new perspective on IT capacity, "best practices" (nay, "next practices"), innovation, problem solving, paralysis, decision-making, the consequences of technology, and the intrinsic vs realized value of information assets. Drop this book in your CIO's briefcase and watch a new Age of IT Enlightenment take shape in your organization!

1.0 out of 5 stars book contains copious wrong info, March 13, 2013
I stopped reading Scott McNeely's Ultimate Book of Sports after I read these two boners: "unlike American baseball, cricket players wear pads and helmets," and that "a second let serve in table tennis results in a point for the returner." #badinfo

5.0 out of 5 stars five distinct models for digital innovation, January 22, 2013
I was impressed by the unique perspective and fresh approach to a topic that so many organizations take for granted and merely allowed to happen organically or incrementally. The real hook for me was the shattering of conventional wisdom that equates value with revenue. Mark and Andy show how doing so sacrifices and limits strategic decisions. Paradoxically, a fixation on financials is a road to fiscal ruin - or a prolonging of it.

They illustrate how in almost any business there are bumpy patches or sticky points at the intersection of multiple processes. But rather than hammering at them with traditional process improvement tools and methods, these intersections are the ideal place for digitalization. And not just digitalizing individual components, but rather applying digitalization disruptively via breakthrough performance, changing transaction economics, or altering the way parties access resources and one another. This is done by dissecting, understanding, then reassembling resource and relationship process flows to create innovative combinations. These combinations take five forms which are explained and illustrated in detail: automate, apply, accompany, augment and abstract.

Finally the authors explain how to build digital capabilities from both the outside in and from the inside out - and to do so continuously.

I would recommend this book to any IT or business leader who is tasked explicitly or implicitly with innovation.

Once We Were Brothers
Once We Were Brothers
by Ronald H Balson
Edition: Paperback
99 used & new from $0.01

5.0 out of 5 stars As historical as historical fiction gets, January 15, 2013
This review is from: Once We Were Brothers (Paperback)
Tremendous tale that captures and embodies many real stories. A tale of hope and hopelessness, survival and murder, pure evil and pure love. Some exciting twists and turns that keep you guessing. Ben's story, like no other I've read, makes you feel as if you were there under Nazi rule...at times making Schindler's List and others of the genre seem like a watered-down, G-Rated recantations.
