5.0 out of 5 stars Writing the title of this review took me longer than getting this adapter installed and working., October 1, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
That's how simple it was to install this product. I have several computers connected via a gigabit Ethernet network at home, but there was one PC in particular using an older USB 2.0/100Mbps adapter that I wanted to upgrade. I purchased the Anker USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet adapter brand based on past experience with a high-capacity extended battery purchase I made for my smart phone as well as the competitive price of this adapter compared to the rest.

I should note that the PC using the Anker adapter has Windows 10, but only a USB 2.0 connection, which limits the adapter to a theoretical max data transfer speed of 480Mbps (based on USB 2.0 specs) , not the full 1,000Mbps (1Gbps). My actual transfer rates using this adapter with USB 2.0 range from 13 to 33 Mbps, depending on the number and size of each file. There are other factors that affect data transfer speeds, like the hard drive transfer rate and the actual network traffic at the time of the transfer, but the speeds are still comparatively faster than with the older 100Mbps adapter. I plan to upgrade the motherboard at some point in the future, or buy a 3.0 USB card, which will make this adapter perform (at least theoretically) at full gigabit speeds.

This is a set-it and forget-it type of adapter, no driver installation was required and it has been working great so far. Be aware that this adapter is not designed to improve the Internet connection speeds, but to improve the internal network's data transfer speeds, provided that the rest of the devices and computers are also using gigabit connections (data transfers will go as fast as the slowest link).

4.0 out of 5 stars A well designed product, and a great option for newcomers,, September 12, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite Plus is my first rechargeable electric toothbrush and so far it has been a good experience. It takes just a couple of uses to become accustomed to the vibration and power of the brush. The toothbrush has an optional 14-day adaptation mode, where the intensity increases gradually, instead of giving you the full power at once. This was very useful for me, because it is indeed a bit tingly when the brush is placed on certain spots of the mouth. There's also some uncomfortable vibration-induced knocking from the reverse side of the brush head that takes some tries to fully manage. The toothbrush also includes another optional setting known as the quad pacer, which is a 30 second interval sound that tells you when to move the brush to a specific area or quadrant of your mouth for a more complete cleaning.

The toothbrush includes an electric charger and it only takes a few minutes to completely charge. The brush head is detachable and replaceable , but replacements aren't cheap; search for Diamondclean brush heads, making sure they are compatible with the Healthywhite toothbrushes. Dentists recommend changing every 3 months, or when the bristles start going out to the sides, but your mileage may vary. The toothbrush includes a convenient travel case with a travel cap for the brush head.

This is a well designed product, and a great option for newcomers like me,

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking, lightweight earrings., August 11, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The earrings are very attractive and nice looking. They are also lightweight and comfortable to wear for long periods. These are great mostly for casual occasions although with the proper attire you can probably pull it off at more formal events. Most importantly, the wife was pleasantly surprised with this gift, so as the saying goes, happy wife, happy life.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting concept, but my child lost interest., August 11, 2015
This review is from: Crayola Story By Me Kit (Toy)
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
My 7-year old daughter started creating her own story and enjoying her creative time, but after a short while she started to lose interest. The story kit is not really that impressive to begin with; it simply includes a number of washable Crayola markers and several sheets of paper, that's it. The rest of the kit is mostly directed to adults to prepare and submit the end result to Crayola for publishing. I was looking forward to sending the finished original story from my daughter, but it never happened. I gave it 3 stars for originality and potential, but unfortunately it fell short of our expectations.

2.0 out of 5 stars Taste and texture leave a lot to be desired., August 11, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Apart from the very small portion size, flavor and texture were definitely off putting. I compare the soupy texture to a classic paella but the accompanying taste felt very strong on sodium content, taking away any chicken or spice taste. There's also a strong aftertaste, which will urge you to wash it down with the liquid of your preference. I really wanted to enjoy this ready meal, but it was really disappointing in all aspects of a meal. I would suggest the Uncle Ben's brand, which is more consistent in delivering balanced flavors and textures.

2.0 out of 5 stars No noticeable difference in charging speed., August 11, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I really didn't find any advantage of having this cable vs the original one from Apple. I was expecting faster charging speeds for my iPad Mini but to be honest, there was really no difference. The cable itself is short, which is a con for me, although some people may see this as a pro. Other than having this cable as a replacement, there's simply no other reason to buy one, in my opinion.

3.0 out of 5 stars Convenient to use, but consider possible audio sync issues., August 2, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I enjoy streaming movies using my tablet and this is the perfect item to get rid of those annoying headphone cables around the bed. The Panasonic RP-BTD10-K Bluetooth headphones also include a built-in rechargeable battery, eliminating the need for standard batteries. The headphones' battery is recharged via a USB cable connected to the computer and provides around 30 hours of use when full.
The headphones were easy to pair via Bluetooth with my Samsung tablet; sound quality could've been a bit better, but it was still acceptable for my purposes.

The main issue I encountered was the video/sound synchronization on my tablet. For some reason, while streaming video, audio goes out of sync. It happens with some applications more than others, like for instance it's worse with HBO Go than it is with Netflix. I'm inclined to think that this is related to how these applications transfer the wireless streaming, because Netflix eventually syncs up, but it is a bit frustrating when it happens. I noticed that this issue does not occur with wired headphones (on my tablet) or when using the Panasonic Bluetooth headphones with my PC, which is connected via Ethernet.

My conclusion is that while these are a convenient pair of headphones, you may want to consider the issues mentioned above to help you make a more informed decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific product to keep you on track of your personal health goals., July 28, 2015

Review of UP3 Activity Tracker by Jawbone:

This is my first experience with any type of activity tracker, therefore my review is based solely on what my expectations for this product were vs what the product delivered. This review will probably serve better to those of you who, like me, are new to this type of device.
The band is comfortable to wear, is certainly inconspicuous and definitely has a stylish look. I did not find it too difficult to place the band on my wrist; it does take some practice but eventually you get the hang of it.

Charging the band's internal battery for the first time takes closely to an hour and it gives it enough charge for about a week. You can see the battery status with the UP app, available for Android and Apple devices. The UP app works smoothly with the band, is not intrusive and has a lot of useful -and eye-opening- information about your physical activities and physical goals. The app gives you real time information and also provides a daily summary of several activities. You are not absolutely required to have your mobile device alongside at all times when wearing the band. You can go about your day and the band will upload all vital stats to the app as soon as a connection is established with the phone (or the device with the app).

One of the functions of the UP app is keeping track of your walking steps during the day and displaying a percentage relative to your personal goals. Another great piece of information is about your sleeping patterns. When you set your band to sleep mode it will start to keep track of total hours of sleep, REM Sleep hours, Light sleep and deep sleep, and gives you a very detailed graph analysis in the morning with recommendations. You can also add your own comments for your own personal log.

There's also the resting heart rate (RHR) information, which is captured before you get up, move, eat, etc. The intention is to keep you informed and aware of healthy heart rates and how you are compared among other adults.

During the initial setup, the UP app captures information about your height, weight, and personal goals. All recommendations are based off on this personal profile. The app also provides for configurable idle alerts, giving a light buzz on your band to remind you when you have been sedentary for too long. There are also bedtime reminders, smart alarms to wake you up during moments of light sleep and a stopwatch mode to keep the time of your activities such as walking, gym, mowing the lawn, etc.

As I continue using the product I find myself being more aware of what I'm required to do to maintain a healthy physical lifestyle. I find the application software very useful and informative and makes me feel motivated to do a little better every day. I highly recommend this product for its overall value.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable little house project, July 26, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The WeMo F5Z0598 Osram Lightify GardenSpot Mini RGB Starter Set (whew, that's a mouthful!) includes a set of 9 outdoor Mini LED lights attached to plastic picks and wired together like Christmas lights. These lights are easily pluggable on the ground and can also be placed on a surface such as a deck or a porch by removing the plastic picks and attaching them with tiny screws included as part of the set.

Looking for a good location, arranging, and plugging the lights on the ground or on a surface is the creative part of the installation. The set includes a waterproof AC power supply to connect the LED lights. The LED light cable also provides an option to extend the number of Mini LED lights as necessary.

Being an app-controlled light set, the first thing to do is to download and install the WeMo mobile app, available for Apple (Apple Store) or Android devices (Google Play Store). This app gives the users remote access to the LED lights using a mobile phone/device on their wireless home network; however, there are a few initial steps that need to be followed before being able to actually use the WeMo app after the installation.

The WeMo Link, a small device the size of an electric air freshener -and also included as part of the starter set- serves as the remote connection interface to the lights. The WeMo Link has two requirements: It needs to be plugged into an AC power source inside the house and it has to be located in a centralized location where the signal is strong enough to reach the LED lights and the user's mobile device. The WeMo Link becomes a mini-router of sorts, and in a few seconds after it's plugged in, becomes visible as a wireless device. Once a mobile phone connects to the "WeMo network", then it is ready to run the WeMo app, which will automatically join both the home and the WeMo network, then search for the LED lights, finally giving remote access to the light settings and properties from the mobile phone!

In a nutshell, the WeMo app controls the configuration of additional devices, light colors, brightness levels, fading, and on/off settings. There are 10 preset colors for the lights, but you can virtually select from hundreds, if not thousands of Red Green Blue (RGB) combinations from the app. In addition to the color selections, there are also brightness settings for the entire set of lights. The WeMo app also includes timer rules, that give users the option to set an on/off schedule based on personal preferences. There are manual on/off settings and also automatic settings based on the current regional sunlight and sunset hours! The app also has an Away Mode, to turn the lights on and off in order to give the appearance that someone is home.

What I didn't see as a configurable setting was some sort of a color cycle option. You can only pick a single color at a time, and there's no random color option or user-configurable cycle. Not a complaint, but it would've been nice to add an element of randomness to the lights.

As a starter set, you only get 9 lights to play with. In my personal opinion this is only good for a very tiny section of a small yard or surface. An additional investment will be necessary if you really want to impress yourself or others. The good thing is that once the initial connections are in place, the addition and configuration of the additional LED lights is much simpler.

This LED Mini-light starter set is definitely an enjoyable little house project and certainly serves as a modern-time conversation piece.

4.0 out of 5 stars The adapter of choice for the 802.11ac wireless networking standard., June 30, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Like many other Vine reviewers, I actually received the TP-Link T4U (not the T4UH in the photo) adapter, which comes as a black USB 3.0 stick

The TP-Link Archer-T4U (AC1200 T4U) Wi-Fi adapter was designed to take advantage of the newest 802.11ac wireless networking standard which was approved in January 2014 and provides high-throughput wireless local area networks (WLANs) on the 5 GHz band. The adapter also works on the older standards such as 802.11 a/b/g/n but it will obviously drop the speed to match the network's.

The package includes the main dual-band Wi-Fi adapter, a USB 3.0 extension cable, installation instructions and a resource CD with the Utility software, which includes the driver plus a TP-Link proprietary wireless management software. The TP-Link adapter can be connected directly to a USB 3.0 port or indirectly using the included USB 3.0 cable, in case the adapter needs to be extended/adjusted for better reception.

The Wi-Fi connection configuration can be performed manually by entering the router's Wi-Fi password via the TP-Link connection utility, or using the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) method of pushing a button on the router and the adapter to authenticate without requiring a password.

I do not currently own a 802.11ac router, so my connectivity tests were performed on a 802.11n network @2.4Ghz. With this setup the transmission rate was 130Mbps with an average download and upload at a consistent 25Mbps out of a maximum of 50Mbps. I'm sure that better speeds are achievable on the 5Ghz band, but it was not feasible for me at this moment to change this configuration without affecting multiple devices at home. However, the limited tests still showed stable speeds, without any sudden drops or spikes or disconnects of any kind.

This should be the adapter of choice if you plan to upgrade to a 802.11ac network in the near future and can rest assured that it will also work on the previous wireless network standards.
