5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, April 23, 2012
I'm reading it over and over again. The author seems very trustworthy, so this little books functions well as a commentary to the NT passages about Mary. The book is enjoyable, deep and engaging. It has a prayer in the beginning of every chapter.

Large type, pleasant layout throughout. Notes in the back with references. Well worth the $.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little bit biased towards Gnosticism, April 23, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
One example I've compared from the Gk is 1 Cor 2:6-9. But several other versions are also being Gnostic here. GNT is less Gnostic in 1 Cor 2:6-9.
A Gnostic translation has mature in v. 6. A non-Gnostic translation has: spriritually mature.
A Gnostic translation has the following in v. 6 (2011 NIV, HCSB): of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing
A Gnostic translation has mystery in v. 7 (2011 NIV, NKJV, HCSB).
A Gnostic translation has has been hidden in v. 7 (CEB).
A Gnostic translation has this age in v.8 (all NIV editions, NKJV, ESV, HCSB).
A Gnostic translation has (Comprehensive New Testament, NKJV): as it is written,
NOR THE HEART OF MAN in v. 9 (NASU, ESV have heart of man).

Compare to:
1 Cor 2:6-9 (1992 Good News Translation 5th ed. Anglicized NT with the word mankind in v. 7 from 1976 GNT 4th ed. NT, non-Gnostic): Yet I do proclaim a message of wisdom to those who are spiritually mature. But it is not the wisdom that belongs to this world or to the powers that rule this world--powers that are losing their power. The wisdom I proclaim is God's secret wisdom, which is hidden from mankind, but which he had already chosen for our glory even before the world was made. None of the rulers of this world knew this wisdom. If they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as the scripture says, "What no one ever saw or heard, what no one ever thought could happen, is the very thing God prepared for those who love him."

However, I gave it 4 stars because it's very useful like I've written in my previous review on

5.0 out of 5 stars Subtle thoughts throughout life, a read for personal interrelation and deed! / Subtila tankegångar utmed livet, November 21, 2005
An autobiography meditating the correspondance between her father and her. She poses the question of WHAT really happened, and what the fathers letters have caused in her. Heaps in the book keep narrating, years after the events have passed, both humiliating and exalting events, that are dealt with, related to and bandied with the answers the father wrote. The whole outset and associations keep titillating me and stimulates and gives some direction and reviews, to keep me studying litterature on one hand, and develop my pursuit on books, stories, for an increasingly exuberant life of mine and my spouse's, on the other hand. This book is in the midst of the flow of those pursuits, in an interesting way, there's no hands-on similarities, and the intricate succor is that there doesn't need to be, in THIS novel. Anyone with an appetite for beeing pushed in some direction, is recommended to read this book. Ad hoc you get a lot of credit for your ensuing strive to protect and marvle your women, wife and daughters, i.e. you agree with and expect a lot from the writer as the novel goes on, and get fascinated about the stemming reflections, to the degree that you want to take pains for acknowledging the subtle joviality of the author and it makes you want to take even greater pains for keeping assuring a bit more carefreeness in the lifes of your closest ones! Anyone care to translate this book? / Vill du ha denna recension på svenska, skicka mig ett meddelande så postar eller epostar jag recensionen, tack för frågan!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent effort!, August 11, 2005
Gratitude to all who participated! Only reason I didn't give it full 5 stars, is that a decade has now elapsed from the publication of the 3rd Edition Revised & Expanded. Not all relevant to this review, but other favorites of mine include: The Inclusive Bible, ISBN 0759107718, ~$120; and Chuang Tzu by Burton Watson

2.0 out of 5 stars As a source of protestant view on the 4th century BC to 4th century AD, YES, otherwise NO, August 1, 2005
I had hard to find anything about the veneration of saints, which I think would be important to include with a comparison to other religions of the period and earlier. In this book there's remarkably little on the actual original backgrounds of christianity, a religion composed from sources and not all that inventive uninformed people tend to think.
