5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite books. If someone were to ask me where ..., August 12, 2014
One of my favorite books. If someone were to ask me where to start in the genre of historical fiction I very well might point them in this direction. Please, don't make this mistake of thinking this is a boring, stuffy work filled with long speeches by men in robes. It's anything but. Robert Graves proves himself to be a fantastic writer and if you've seen the miniseries that was based on this it's impossible to not picture the actors as you read

3.0 out of 5 stars Please Be Aware (regarding turning the ringer off) KX-TG6512B, December 30, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Turning off the ringer completely is a multi-step task. For most of us, this is not a big deal. However, I purchased this phone for an elderly couple who regularly like to turn the ringer off completely when they nap. Yes, hitting menu, #, entering a code #, turning off the volume, then hitting save IS a big deal for a senior. Even though this is the cheapest of the models there really SHOULD be a simpler way to just turn the ringer off. My goodness. I thought I must have been mistaken, but I called customer support and they told me those are the required steps to turn the ringer off

I won't give the phone a bad rating, but c'mon Panasonic. A code just to turn the ringer off????

4.0 out of 5 stars Best So Far..., April 1, 2013
For me, this is the best Hangman's Daughter tale so far and I tore through it in days. It has a wonderful plot and I found many of the characters to be the best that Potzsch has produced. I really hope that he will visit Regensburg again

I look forward to see what Potzsch has in store for the hangman. Can Kusil remain a hangman after enduring what he did in this book? I don't mean from a physical standpoint. I mean when you are tormented in the same way that your job requires you to torment others, can you continue to do so?

3.0 out of 5 stars Pink Kisses Wallet, October 20, 2012

This review is from: Shagwear Women's Wallet (Apparel)
The wallet itself is functional, but I wanted to comment on the color of the wallet. It is NOTHING like the picture shown. The picture shows the wallet as being very vibrant, colorful....shocking pink. In reality, it's very washed out and frankly kind of boring. Don't know if this is the same for all the styles but beware that your wallet may not look anything like the picture

5.0 out of 5 stars Kindle Users Beware, October 10, 2011
In my opinion, this book should not be available for the Kindle. Part of it's charm are the illustrations and typographical tricks which the Kindle cannot really reproduce

Can you still enjoy the book on a Kindle? Yes. But you are missing a good part of the experience

****This "review" just serves as a warning to Kindle users. In an effort to be fair to the author I awarded the book five stars since my complaint is not with the novel itself

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Be Scared Away From This Great Product, September 18, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When searching for new clippers I was almost scared away from this product by a few people who claimed it was too sharp and cut them.

I have to say, I don't know what the heck these people are doing. I'm borderline clumsy and have had absolutely no problems with these fantastic clippers. Yes, they are sharp. With the exception of a razor, you won't get a closer cut. The only area you have to be a bit more careful around is your ears. They do get hot. Not a big deal. They are heavy. Also not a problem.

Highly recommended

***also want to mention that I haven't experienced that loud noise that some people have complained of

3.0 out of 5 stars Yes, it's time, September 5, 2011
I'm probably one of the few male fans of this series, but it has always appealed to me

I have to agree with some of the other reviewers. It is time for the romance between Sarah and Malloy to progress. I realize that in "book time" perhaps not much time has actually passed, but for loyal readers, ELEVEN YEARS have passed and not even a real kiss between the two!!! haha. It's time!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed With Some Reservations, August 16, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It took me forever to finish this and not just because it's long. George goes into such detail about even the most mundane things that there are times when it was a bit of a bore to me. Quite frankly, I almost gave up on the book, which is something I almost never do.

I persevered, however, and I must admit that despite the issues I had, it is an achievement. After finishing, there is a real sense that you have witnessed Cleopatra's entire life even if the historical narrative differs with what is presented in the book

Recommended for the patient reader

2.0 out of 5 stars Truly bad, May 20, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am not hard to please when it comes to my reading and I almost never bother with reviews on Amazon but this book is truly horrible.

It can possibly serve as inspiration to aspiring writers who can read it and think "if this junk can get published...."

It's just page after page of what I imagine Ellis thought was hilarious "outrageous" writing that is just not at all funny

After reading this book I found that Ellis actually has quite a career as a writer of graphic novels and for television.

WOW!

And Amazon has the nerve to mention Kurt Vonnegut in their review as if there is any comparison?

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Saturday Night, August 12, 2005
This review is from: Premonition (Audio CD)
To the reviewer who asked about "Almost Saturday Night" - yes, it is indeed a John Fogerty tune off his 1975 album. Dave Edmunds had a minor hit with a cover version in the 80's. In my opinion, this version on Premonition is the best take on the song.

Strangly enough, a similar thing happened with "Rockin' All Over The World" also off of Fogerty's 1975 album. The British band Status Quo had a hit with their cover version and many people think they wrote the song. For you trivia fans out there Status Quo were the first band to play during Live Aid and they opened with, you guessed it, "Rockin' All Over The World." Hurray for Fogerty.
