4.0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting Insight, April 6, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is the Thesis for the Author's M.A. in Communication Cinema-Television
As such, it is structured differently than your ordinary book.
It contains a lot of interesting and important information about films and the Academy Awards.
I liked the different perspectives to the selection process,
and the criteria for nominations y winners.
I would recommend this book for anyone interested in the film arts,
or the film business in general, students of filmmaking and actors,
it has a lot of interesting bits of information that will complement
your studies and make YOU sound a lot more knowledgeable.
it will give you a whole, bird's eye view of the
Hollywood machinery and how it affects our society.
I'm studying acting right now, and I feel that this book has
given me and edge over my competition. Really fun read too!!

5.0 out of 5 stars It Works!!, January 3, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Yes, I was kind of hesitant because I was not sure if you could expand the RAM for the Lenovo IdeaPad U310.
But I opened it (which voids your warranty by the way) installed the new memory and voilà! 8GB of RAM in my little laptop : )

Good read. Nothing special. Fun if you're a Trump fan. Good for staying motivated. Won't make any permanent or significant changes in your life, but it will keep you on the right track while you read it.

2.0 out of 5 stars A very frustrating read... Big disappointment, June 5, 2009
I didn't count'em, but there's like 50 mistakes in the example code
very unprofessional
apart from that, the book is ok
it's a shame though
because I paid good money for it and
I would expect someone to revise the code thoroughly before going to print
after all... it's a programming book!
If you buy this book, don't expect a masterpiece

----------------------------------------------------

In regards to the technical errors...
halfway through the book, it was disappointing
then they're annoying,
by the end of the book it was just sad

I'll give just one of many examples, just to illustrate:

"Only session beans and message-driven beans that define
a javax.ejb.TransactionManagementType of Bean
using the @javax.ejb.TransactionManager annotation
can manage their own transactions."

... later in that same page (388):

[...]
...you won't know which is which unless you go to the API!
Like I said, it's just disappointing, annoying and sad.

It was around chapter 17, when I started wondering:
"Where this guys drinking while they were reviewing the code?"

Mistakes in the last chapter were just plain insulting:
"Figure 21-7. Stateless version of ReservationManager"
is the stateful version! Jesus Christ!
Who edited this book!

Not even the index got away clean (p. 708):
"builing and deplying example programs, 538"

and this is O'Reilly

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this guy!, November 20, 2008
Great book! I used to get beat up a lot. I read this book, went out, and beat up 3 guys in a shopping mall, won the fight without a scratch, and I even got the thumbs up from the people around. You know those loudmouth bullies that think they own the joint? That walk around as if they were the masters of the universe? That pretend to be the toughest guys? That enjoy intimidating people? That think they can push you around or that you have to get out of their way if you want to live? Well I just got sick of it! And after training with this guy, I knew I had what it took, and I think the best thing, the most important thing, that this book taught me... was the attitude, the mindset, you don't wait for the other guy to cut you open before you really start fighting back. Now I can go out there and walk around with no fear, because I know I can defend myself.
Thanks Ned, you changed my life.
