4.0 out of 5 stars TO ACT OR NOT TO ACT, February 18, 2005
With an open mind and some determination, you can find out how your life can be better through spiritual understanding and by active daily participation in God's plan for your life. One's life has purpose and comes to a 'dead end' only if you ignore God's plan for you. The forty day journey using this additional resource can have a life-changing impact on you if you determine to seek out your purpose. Your life will become purposeful and satisfying. Your choice - dead end or satisfaction.

In this world, nothing is perfect. How we view the things around us colors what we think. If we think that the glass is half full and that is a good thing, we will have a positive view of things. If we think that the glass is half empty and that is a bad thing, we will have a negative view of things. So many have an attitude about life that is ambivalent because they let 'things' around them put a damper on their purpose. God gives us his plan. It is tailored for each of us as individual's. Negative attitudes normally bring unsatisfactory results. Positive attitudes color life in very reassuring ways. One must choose one's attitude very carefully. Things of this world are temporary and imperfect.

There are some of us who need help with reinforcing scriptures and guidance with meditation, while others need little or no assistance. If one needs the assistance this book is a great way to go. If you do not need the assistance or fail to follow through with using it, it will be a waste. Your choice is to act or not to act. Let your choice be an honest action.

4.0 out of 5 stars PURPOSE OR DEAD END, February 18, 2005
How many people today believe that life has a purpose? How can your purpose drive your life? These two questions and the answers form the dividing line to a productive and satisfying life. Many in today's world will not experience a productive and satisfying life with positive eternal impact. Why? Because they believe that they can 'do it' themselves. Their mantra is 'give me a self-help book and I can do it myself.' Rick Warren shows us how God intended for us to function and helps us to put that plan into action.

Warren says, "Contrary to what many popular books, movies, and seminars tell you, you won't discover your life's meaning by looking within yourself. You've probably tried that already. You didn't create yourself, so there is no way you can tell yourself what you were created for! If I handed you an invention you had never seen before, you wouldn't know its purpose, and the invention itself wouldn't be able to tell you either. Only the creator or the owner's manual could reveal its purpose."

He continues, "... you cannot arrive at your life's purpose by starting with a focus on yourself. You must begin with God, your Creator. You exist only because God wills that you exist. You were made by God and for God---and until you understand that, life will never make sense. It is only in God that we discover our origin, our identity, our meaning, our purpose, our significance, and our destiny. Every other path leads to a dead end." If one's life leads to a dead end, how can it have purpose?

Once the reader decides that his life needs a purpose and is willing to make the effort to find out, he can begin the 40 day journey to finding one's life mission. The journey begins by answering the question "What on earth am I here for?" By the end of the first week, the reader begins to understand how and why one should begin the process of spiritual growth. That process will not be easy but as with all things of value, it will be well worth the effort.

Warren has laid out the book in seven day increments. Each increment addresses a 'purpose question' and gives input, with a specific point, scripture, and question for purposes of meditation. He gives the commentary in very simple, easy to understand everyday language. You do not have to be a 'rocket scientist' to understand what is said.

With an open mind and some determination, you can find out how your life can be better through spiritual understanding and by active daily participation in God's plan for your life. One's life has purpose and comes to a 'dead end' only if you ignore God's plan for you. The forty day journey can have a life-changing impact on you if you determine to seek out your purpose. Your life will become purposeful and satisfying. Your choice - dead end or satisfaction.

4.0 out of 5 stars God Speaks to Your Thirst, February 9, 2005
As a new believer or mature Christian, one's understanding of the Bible can only come by the motivation to quench one's spiritual thirst. In this work, Blumhagen does a marvelous job of condensing tedious chapters into a concise paragraph with a key verse. The author produces a continuity that comes only through many years of prayer, study and teaching. The author does a magnificient job of condensing concisely without losing the overall flow and continuity. Blumenhagen does not insert her own opinion in the commentary which helps to maintain scriptural and doctrinal soundness for the student. JR McElfresh, author of SpiritQuest: Our War With Choices.
