2.0 out of 5 stars Defective in 2 weeks. Should I get a different model or give it another try?, August 20, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It broke after 2 weeks of making about 4 drinks per day. The water extraction won't stop unless it runs out or I push a button. Followed every recommended troubleshooting and Breville is offering me to ship a new one. I am debating whether to get a different model or give another try. But overall, it's a good value compared to price features and other similar machines. The hardest part is getting a consistent extraction. Does require some experimenting but once you learn I get Starbucks' or better quality shots.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT of quality, August 15, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased and installed this for my office room exactly 53 weeks ago. Set up was challenging since the buttons are on the opposite side of the scanner so you have to be quick to follow the instructions for setup and go fast to the front of the door to scan your finger twice. I found out that the main reason it fails to open is because they release the finger too soon from the scanner. Just lay the finger flat and wait until you hear the motor unlock the door, not the beep, then open. Everyone tends to release the finger right after they hear the beep or see the scanner flash. Wait for the motor sound instead. It was working alright until it stopped unlocking yesterday. I tried tech support, and followed their reset procedure but it seems that the motor that unlocks has died (right after the warranty ended). My opinion, stick to well known brands if you want quality and security. The company has more skills in making the scanner but the rest of the hardware is of subpar quality. So I opted for a Schlage that unlocks with number codes to replace it. Remembering the codes can be cumbersome but you can give one code for each person and delete or change when you feel it has been compromised. Or spend two to three times more for a quality scanner lock.

2.0 out of 5 stars Author Got a Little Lost in Own Steps, May 5, 2005
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'll be brief. It teaches efficient programming and good tips for beginner programmers but don't try to follow the steps outlined in the book. Seems that author got lost in his own steps. For example page 144 step 8 doesn't indicate that you should place the onChanged code in the "calcObject.as" file, instead it says that you sould place it after the onKillFocus event. I lost a lot of time trying to figure out why my program wasn't working (wanting to practice debugging) until I finally looked at the files in the DVD. I'd say just read the book and test using the files that came in the DVD if things don't work.
