5.0 out of 5 stars Touching, sincere, inspiring, May 29, 2015

It's like reading one of Richard Branson's books if Branson built schools in 3rd world countries. Full of adventure, mistakes, lessons learned, business gems, heart and above all hopeless idealism.

I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great demo for a great game, June 18, 2011
Unlike other demos that have tons of limits/are so tightly scripted that they have no replay value, this demo lets you do anything you want. This IS the game except it disables after playing for 30 days of in game time. Of course, it's hard to do a lot of epic stuff in that little time so get the game!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, not bad, not great, June 13, 2011
This review is from: Metro 2033 - PC (Video Game)
I got this game as part of THQ's Complete game pack promotion during Xmas last year which included all of their Dawn of War I, Company of Heroes and Dawn of War II (up to that point) titles, as well as some other games I haven't really bothered to play.

This game is alright I guess. It kind of reminds me of Resident Evil because it never scares you too much/or only for a moment and has sometimes annoying controls and a scarcity of ammo. Most of the cool realistic things in this game are actually to your detriment, for example, if you get hit too much while wearing your gas mask, the goggles will be cracked and make it hard for you to see.

Your view is first person and sometimes you'll be getting hit/killed by things the height of your knees so that's not very fun. Not really a shooter fan, I struggled through this game on medium, not really an adventure fan either so I didn't really enjoy wandering around trying to find the right path while I was wandering around in the tundra and running out of oxygen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Textbook, June 13, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Has a lot of value per dollar and if you're into this sort of thing, it has a lot of fascinating reads from the time.

Be warned that reading assignments are much more difficult than they seem. Forty pages of Walden at size 10 font is not something that you'll be able to (or at least, should be able to) finish one hour before class starts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Multiplayer overshadows uninspired campaigns, June 13, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you're looking for a single player/co-op game, you should probably look elsewhere or wait for Heart of the Swarm. Dawn of War is kind of like Age of Empires in that the 'campaign' is generally more of a formality and the multiplayer is a blast. However, Dawn of War II original and to a lesser extent Chaos Rising have fun, long story driven campaigns. Retribution has a campaign for each of 6 races but the missions are all literally the same. Not worth 30$ for this.

However, the multiplayer is really fun once you get the hang of it. The steam group L2PDow@ (learn to play dawn of war 2) is a good resource to learn quickly. If you've played Dow1 or CoH you'll be alright. If you haven't, well, this game is a real time tactics game (no base building, units are upgraded individually, they can level up) that is centered around capturing points on the map king of the hill style. Also, the races all play very different and so re-playability/variance is very high (unlike World in Conflict). Definitely worth 30$ if you can get into it.

Of course if you are a Warhammer40k fan, this is worth it.

Also, while this game is a stand alone, playing online, all races for which you do not own the games in which they came out for will be disabled. So if you want to play as Eldar/Ork/Space Marine/Tyranid you have to buy original and if you want to play Chaos you need Chaos Rising. However, if you do not own Retribution, you can't play with everyone else who owns Retribution since the previous 2 Dawn of War 2 games were on Games for Windows Live and Retribution Multiplayer is on Steam (only about 15-20% of playerbase hasn't migrated over, will probably go down massively once RT goes on sale).

4.0 out of 5 stars Good game but on sale for a reason, June 13, 2011
For single player, the campaign is a good 10 - 20 hours depending on difficulty. If you liked the original, this is definitely a decent buy. If you don't have the original and are looking for single player, I would suggest you buy the first game because that campaign is about 3-5 times as long.

However, for multiplayer, Relic has moved Dawn of War off of Games for Windows Live (thank god) and onto Steam with the newest expansion. People who only own chaos rising/regular dow2 will NOT be able to play with those who have Retribution (unlike DoW1/CoH where you could play with others, just not as the new race in the most recent expansion). Most of the player base has moved onto Retribution. However, if you buy retribution without CR, you won't be able to play as Chaos in multiplayer. Of course, you won't know if you like playing as Chaos unless you buy this game.
