1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money folks, January 20, 2016

Rose may have left atheism behind, buy he has yet to remove the chip off his shoulder. Too many errors to mention in this book. Suffice it to say, the author is a Catholic "apologist." (Caution: NEVER confuse "apologist" for "scholar!" Rose is no Jimmy Akin, (of Catholic Answers) that's for sure! Don't waste your money folks, but of infinitely more importance, don't let yourself become taken in by extremely amateur, self-styled "apologists!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Read and have your faith strengthened!, November 24, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Another excellent book by Dr. Poythress! As a New Testament scholar par excellence, he helps us in this book to more fully understand Jesus' miracles and how they relate to us today! This book will boost your faith, and help you to further understand that none only did Jesus have His immediate audience in mind when performing His miracles, but His future followers- you and me- as well. Thank you, Dr. Poythress, for your continuous contributions to the saints.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bringing sanity back to philosophy, June 9, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Excellent critique of philosophy in light of Christian doctrine. Today's university philosophy departments are full of eccentric professors teaching the wildest so-called "philosophy" you can imagine. I've seen it first hand in college. Thank you, Dr. Poythress, for bringing sanity to a once great field.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adios, materialism!, April 27, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Excellent, thought-provoking book detailing the fact that *information* underlies matter, not the other way around as had long been assumed. Dembski (Ph.D., Univ. of Chicago, Ph.D., Univ. of Illinois, M.Div., Princeton) drops a thermonuclear bomb on Darwinism and it's 'parent' philosophy of materialism in this brilliantly written and well-researched masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Straight to the point! The Emperor of historical criticism has no clothes!, January 7, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Geisler and Farnell lay bare the undercurrent that runs through the so-called "historical quests for Jesus" and sadly, much (supposedly) Evangelical scholarship- Philosophical nihilism. The authors explain why there has never been any reason for the ultra-critical treatment of the New Testament. Other ancient writings (Homer, etc.) are given historic carde blanche, even though there were hundreds (in some cases over a thousand) years between the time of the actual events and when they were written down. The New Testament, on the other hand, was written within the same century in which the events occurred (mostly by eyewitnesses!) yet the NT is treated in an overtly hostile way. Geisler and Farnell deftly explain that philosophical ideologies- not historiography- are the basis for the discriminatory way with which the NT has been treated for the past century and a half.

ATTENTION: the many negative ratings on here are not reflective of reality. Dr. Norm Geisler does Nothing half-as***. What we have is a rabid new generation of Roman Catholic apologists, who will clearly stop at nothing to defend Rome. See similar books critical of The RCC, and you will find the same phenomenon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great work by Dr. Moreland, August 12, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is an intellectual defense/explanation of the Faith, but written in way that is easy to read- yet without being dumbed-down. This is the perfect book to give to your child when he/she goes off to secular university. It will equip them, and they can keep turning back to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank God for Dr. Moreland, August 12, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
One doesn't have to have a Ph.D. to realize we each have a soul- something almost mystical that neurons and chemical neurotransmitters can't possibly account for. I believe God raises up great scholars in every generation to combat bad philosophies. Dr. Moreland is undoubtedly one such scholar. His book explains exactly why consciousness and our souls cannot be reduced to, nor explained by, random "Darwinian" processes. Keep up the great work doc!
