5.0 out of 5 stars Stylish, Small Body Size, and Great Performance, January 10, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The GF3 seems to be intended for casual shooters who want the small size and picture quality of interchangeable lens compacts without the bulk of dSLR's, and don't mind not having a hot shoe (external flash), viewfinder, or a lack of physical buttons. The touch screen TFT LCD is used for framing and for many other functions. Overall picture quality seems very good and sharp.

Specifications
12.1mp (effective) Four Thirds liveMOS Censor, 3-in. TFT touch LCD (460,000 dot), 1080i (60 fps) AVCHD, mono mic, burst 3.8 fps, ISO 160-6400, weight (body) - 0.6lb with card/battery, size (body) - 4.2 x 2.6 x 1.3 inch, mini HDMI out, battery - 320 shots, lens 14-42mm, lens hood included.

Note: Camera made in Japan, 14-42mm lens made in China. All very solid and high quality. No security seal on box, so I was checking if it was an open box item. Everything seems very new, and I didn't find any scratches, smudges, or any damage on the body or at both ends of the lens on mine.

Style
What stands out are the curves that make it look stylish and modern.

Size
The camera body is small enough, but not too small to hold with medium sized hands. Similar in body size to Olympus E-PM1, and Sony NEX series (3, C3). The 14-42mm lens larger than E-PM1, about same size as NEX series with 18-55mm.

Color
I have the white one. The color is slightly yellowish creamy white, instead of pure (printer paper) bright white. A coating on the white surface make it seems very smooth, like it is waxed. The center edge of the body is gray as pictured, and almost matches the grey part of the lens that attaches the body. I really like the color, and it makes the camera stand out.

Languages
The US version has English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Performance
-Instant on - less than 1 second.
-Extremely fast autofocus in good light, pretty much instant. At low light, slightly slower, but still very fast.
-Shutter lag didn't seem like a problem.
-Touch screen can be used for focusing and taking pictures. Requires a little pressure. Quick menu can be configured with functions that are used the most.
-Noise - Can take acceptable pictures up to ISO 3200 JPEG (also rated by professional reviews). Raw pictures required manual software adjustments, but should be acceptable to ISO 1600.
-Many picture effects and scene modes.
-A physical button to quickly go to auto mode.
-Built in Flash (can be tilted up creatively with fingures) - (see problem)
-Off in about 3 seconds.

What's Not
-No hot shoe (for external flash), no mode dial (it is in the screen), and very few physical buttons (all in the screen).
-No stereo sound

Problem
Flash - The 14-42mm lens blocks a bit of light at the lower center edge, causing an obvious darker area, but the darker area is rather small. This also happens to large zoom lens on dSLR's with built in flash. On the GF3, you can fix it by zooming in just a little before taking a picture, and the darker area on the edge is gone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for computer to Kindle Fire connection/transfers, December 23, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Excellent quality usb cable at a great price ($5.99). A cable to connect to the computer is NOT included with the Kindle Fire. Cable works very well to transfer music, pictures, and other files from the computer to the Kindle Fire. Kindle Fire opens up like a usb device. Just drag and drop files in. Kindle Fire seems to charge from the cable, with charging red light on, however, the display didn't indicate the device is charging. The reason is likely that the Kindle Fire does NOT recognize the charging source, which some reported in their reviews, when using chargers that are NOT the same one supplied with the Kindle Fire. Cable was shipped in a sealed box. The plastic-like (or PVC) mold around the gold-plated plugs are about the right size, NOT oversized. The cable is NOT too thick or stiff. Cable can also be used for other devices that have a micro-B usb port.

Works fine on Kindle Fire even on full scan. Full scan takes only a few minutes. Easily turn protection on or off. Sent out request for a fix for the false positive on ebay app earlier, and didn't notice problems after. Didn't seem to slow the device. You can go to settings and set it to daily auto update.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kindle Fire - Excellent graphics/sound, and smooth, December 18, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
One of the best graphics on the Kindle Fire. Didn't notice lag. Many vehicles to unlock, and can even choose your own vehicle color. About 500mb more to download - took about 10 minutes for me on DSL. Saw it on sale a couple times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning scenes, Fascinating discoveries, Conservation, Immersive, and Balance between people/nature, December 17, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wild China (DVD)
Wild China brings out 6 episodes of fascinating discoveries and stunning sceneries, with the focus on nature, Chinese conservation efforts, and how nature balances with different groups of people. Episodes immerse the viewer, causing one to wonder what is more to be shown or discovered. Some footages were filmed for the first time.

I am surprised on the ecosystems and animals that China is able to support and still exist.

I only saw one obvious seen of some flowers out of focus for a short moment, or may be focus on something else. Overall, picture quality is excellent. The background music is not overpowering, and the voice is lively and easy to understand.

Although the videos were filmed before the 2008 Olympics, much of the scenes, discoveries, conservaton efforts, wildlife, different groups of people and their ways of life, remain new and informative to people who want to know more about the region.

BBC's production of Wild China is unbiased and nonpolitical. It is boldly outspoken for wildlife and nature, with impressive footages that immerse the viewer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great price/function-Password-Flaws in function/apps/cord/other, December 17, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Summary
Top lower end and lower priced product for basic use. Four stars for smooth Amazon/Netflix video, good music player, beautiful screen, and fast enough web pages for a first generation Amazon tablet. Flaws not enough to distract regular used of most functions, unless it is stolen. PASSWORD is available and should be set due to direct access to email and direct easy online purchases on the Kindle Fire.

Flaws/Shortages
1. Product shipped with words "Kindle Fire" on outer box and no signature required. Great for thieves.
2. USB charger too short, about 4 feet. Imagine using it while charging.
3. No USB cable to connect to computer.
4. Amazon purchases too easy, with no confirmation needed. One click movies, and double tap Mp3's, all already linked and registered to your account on file. It's made to consume Amazon products.
5. Oxford Dictionary supplied can't be searched. Are you really going to read it page by page?
6. Book text can be too small for some.
7. About 6 GB free space only.
8. No logout function for email app or yahoo app. Anybody can read your email.
9. No HD video playback. Did you know?
10. Multiple taps sometimes don't register after a while - usually on an arrow or down Mp3 samples.
11. No card slots, no camera, no bluetooth, no mic, no 3G/4G, no HDMI, no foreign language settings. Only a plugin for headphones.
12. Software glitch where carousel (home panel) can't update to new playlist name viewed the latest, when new playlist name replaces a previous deleted playlist slot in the Music folder. Always display the old playlist name on carousel. Amazon says they are going to contact the technical department on this.

Great Features
1. Unlimited cloud storage for Amazon content, plus 5GB free for personal content.
2. Free app of the day and apps many times on sale.
3. Music plays fine, and speakers loud and clear for personal use.
4. Video plays smoothly including Amazon/Netflix. Need free Netflix app.
5. Book text is clear, although can be small.
6. Colorful, sharp, and bright screen. Screen is beautiful.
7. Web (called Silk) is actually pretty fast for a tablet, usually just seconds to load depending on home and server traffic.
8. Apps download in less than a minute for most.
9. Web pages can be enlarged.
10. Gorilla Glass is scratch resistant, but reports of scratches in some customer reviews. Get a screen protector in case.
11. PASSWORD - yes, at Settings-More-Security.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice fit, good quality, and sturdy, December 17, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Appearance
-Square spine, harder faux leather, and easy open/close cover makes it feel and look like a leather bound hardcover book. Looks strong and sturdy.

Fit
-Fits the Kindle Fire very well with all ports and speakers available. Speakers are not blocked, but close to the rim on the right speaker.
-Kindle Fire not aligned the first few days, but amazingly, aligned almost perfectly afterward.
-Cover open and closes easily like a book.
-Magnet locks on the cover very well. Seems to be 1 on each corner.
-Non-display part of the screen is exposed a little for easy access to home and settings controls on the edge (barely).

Texture
-Harder faux leather makes it feel sturdy. Not soft leather.
-Inner lining is microfiber.

Service
-Great that the seller followed up and emailed me about my purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glossy, transparent, smooth like Kindle Fire screen, December 16, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Apperance
-Glossy with reflection like the Kindle Fire screen, which makes it seems like it is not there, if you have a case around the rim area as the protector is a little small, leaving about 2mm on the edge when centered.
-Transparent and colorful screen with no text distorption seen.

Touch
-Very smooth but not as smooth as the actual screen, but close enough.
-Scratch resistant - I have a sharp worned out nail on my touch finger and it didn't leave a single scratch.
-Repellent-like on the top, but can leave dust or fingure prints that can easily be removed.

Application
-Note - actual screen protector is sandwiched between 2 protective films called "tab 1" and "tab 2". "Tab 1" side goes onto the screen.
-Note 2 - please read the supplied instructions - mine is just extra.
-Scotch tape debris from the screen. Humidify your room (from a shower) if needed to. Compare/measure the protector to the screen. I find it easy just to used my fingers to run along the protector 1 side (left or right) to the next. (Before this step read next steps) Peel off 1-2 inch of protective film labeled "tab 1" and apply the center piece. Helps if you peel or loosen about 1 inch of the top protective film, called "tab 2", before applying, since you will have to remove the top protective film after application anyways. Otherwise, you may peel off the protector while removing the top film after application.
-Try to make it right in 1 or 2 trys or bubbles will become worst. Lift protector on 1 corner with tape and use fingers to gently slide bubbles out if needed.
-If debris gets trapped after full application, used tape to lift protector from 1 corner and use another tape to tape the debris. Lift it too many times, and you will get more bubbles.
-Again read the supplied instructions.

Problem
-One of my protectors didn't stick on 1 whole side of the edge, about 1mm on the rim. Second protector was much better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Full of bugs, October 25, 2011
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Battlefield 3 (Video Game)
When hundreds of users report problems (freezes, crashes, lags, menu problems, etc.) at the battlefield3.com forum this first day of release even for users with the most updated computers and advanced graphics cards, then the game has some issues. Thought developers would have tested the game more fully before release. One thing about computers is that each user may have a different experience. Another thing about opened software/downloads is that it is hard to return it when it doesn't work as described. Maybe game consoles would have less problems since it either works or it doesn't (maybe). Download also took much longer than expected. Not mentioning the problems here, just that bugs prevented the game from functioning on my new computer that exceeds the specs. Pretty excited about this new release, but contacted cutomer services and getting rid of this game to live a simpler life.

Update 11/08/11:
A few problems not (or not much) mentioned. As people should already know that bf3 requires the browser to launch/display the game (PC version), the game prompts the user to download an add-on in order for the BF3 main page to work properly. The problem is that Internet Explorer 9 blocks part of the add-on based on default security settings (if you pay attention to the little banner displayed for a short time) with no prompt for the user to allow the full add-on. The game manager states it is up-to-date even though the browser stated it blocked part of it. The problems I had were video problems when game was launched, and problems with some keys/keypad buttons (if people really want to know). BF3 customer service stated only Nvidia and AMD cards are supported but didn't state which particular ones, as I noticed some people with the video cards also had problems. The game may be fine tuned to some cards and systems but not others.
